Oh. Dave has passed away? (I just checked his local news pages and saw the reports from February. How sad. He was such a nice guy, as well as an amazing teacher and player.)
Favorite band, favorite song. Well taught. Best guitar lesson I've had on RUclips in nine years! Many players don't get that strum accent. Thanks for breaking it down properly
Great work Dave. That's the best breakdown of the this song I've come across! Just one question, when you get to the G11 part at around 5 mins, it sound to my ears as if you are playing slightly differently from the TAB on the screen. It sounds to my ears as if you might be hitting an open G on the 4th note in the bar rather than the 2nd fret (A)?
Why would people hate free lessons ggrrrrr great vid bud Wonderful, just wonderful. Thank you very much. Wonderful, just wonderful. Thank you very much.
Thank you so much for this lesson ❤❤ I love this track by pretenders when i was kids I'm so happier to learn this on my guitare And so Sorry for my english i'm french Bye and Rip my friend
Great tutorial thanks. I needed it more for the chorus. I like the sponge idea and will give it a try. I worked out a way of playing the verse with a bass note included in the chords when playing with no backing track. It seems to work ok. I noted the fingers I use for the fourth chord. Hope you find it useful, repaying the favour you could say: x x x x x x x 1 ......(Index) 54 54 54 20 ......(Middle) 5 5 3 3 .....(Pinky) 3 0 5 x x x x 3 .....(Ring - Mutes A)
jesse Dee I probably said in the video that is guesswork on my part. Motown bass players use to use foam under the strings to dampen down the sound on recordings. I tried playing the part with just palm muting and, although it sounded close, there was something missing to my ears. Who knows? Only Robbie Macintosh probably.
RIP Dave thank you for all your excellent videos.

This is a GREAT video! Very nicely explained. Thank you!
You're welcome.
The way to get (& keep) the rhythm is to play the 5,4,5 at the beginning of each verse.
Great in depth lesson. Thankyou Dave

No pads when they play live. All palm mute. Maybe the record version they mute pad, but it wouldn't surprise me if they palm muted that too.
