- Doctor Who is a few days away from kicking off a new era, with new faces leading the way, and on a whole new platform that is Disney+. The longest-running sci-fi series in history continues as the Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) and his new companion, Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson), go off in his TARDIS, and experience the wonders and horrors of traveling through time and space.
The Nerds of Color later had a one-on-one with Russell T. Davies, who is responsible for the initial reboot back in 2005, where he talked about the experience of being the showrunner now compared to back in the 2000s, the advantage of having a bigger budget (especially when it comes to special effects), and what it's like to have actors who grew up with the previous reboot now the leads of this new era.

Every time I refresh RUclips another channel has uploaded a zoom call with Russell... the man was busy!
and I will watch everyone! I love hearing him speak!
he has a lot of damage to control, no wonder he is so busy.
Recently moved in with my partner and he knows of my love of doctor who. We’ve been together two years and he forgot to mention that Russell lives in the same street as us. I nearly passed out when I realised. He’s such a lovely man. 💖
Man the marketing for this is going crazy. Idk how its always been in the uk, but the most we ever got in the US before this was like 2 commefcials for Matt Smith if you happened to be watching BBC America. Didnt have these subway carriages, interviews on famous American talk shows, RTD doing 50 interviews a day, the offical Dr. Who youtube channel going crazy. Wont lie, its helping fuel my hype.
Looking forward to seeing what the ratings on this show will be
Nice one. I just wanted to say that was a ace interview, great questions 🙂👍👏👏👏
At least in 2005 , Doctor Who was good.
It's always been good from 1963 forward. Maybe not every episode was always my cup of tea, but some people love Timelash.
@@greyhoundfivemedia812 bahahaahaahaha no. Dr Who has always been hit and miss the best example being Caves of Androzani (regarded as the best classic who episode) was followed by one of the worst episodes Twin Dilemma.
@@purefoldnz3070 Thank God there was no Twitter or RUclips echochamber in 1984. My 13 year old self was so let down by that particular episode, I may have gone toxic. But then I loved most of Trial of a Time Lord. And Ol' Sixie eventually won me over.
@@greyhoundfivemedia812 Yeah I even had the trial of a time lord VHS tin as a kid.
Is it just me or are the interviews getting worse and worse also what is wrong with having an older Doctor? That's one of the things that was so great about Capaldi.
It would be great to have more older women adventurers, etc., in stories. Everyone doesn't need to be put on a shelf except for the writers. And Tennant came back older.
The Gene Roddenberry of Doctor Who.
Love his work, thought he would save the franchise, great actor as first Female DR let down by bad writing, was excited to have Russle T Davis back to write and again great actor as first black DR should have been brilliant with such a good writer back in the saddle feel so let down 😢
First Doctor of color was Jo Martin, and she was great, they could've brought her in for a really good season or two before Ncuti.
And for all of RTD posturing about how representation is so important you make a good point about the lack of black writers. Sadly RTD makes each episode with his hand-picked production main staff which are all white script editor, director, 5 producers, 2 cinematographers, casting director, editor, 2nd unit director, production designer, main camera and dolly operator, both makeup artists and all the 7 heads of the art departments. Maybe representation should be behind the camera too Russell?
Honestly, though, I think it's a problem that writers don't write about older people as they get older. (I'm certainly guilty of this.) Everything is geared to youth, but older people can have adventures too. Perhaps I should say "older women," as older men certainly continue to be leads more often and longer. (This is not an indictment of the young either.)
There you go again with the Reboot. Damn it’s not one for heaven sake.
I agree it's annoying.
Can’t believe he has decided to completely destroy the franchise, space babies was awful, and thought can’t be worse let’s watch another but he amazingly made it worse then as if it was not awful enough end on a musical number that’s DR who dead for me
damn, this girl was so awkward
Yeah I'm sure you wouldn't be nervous at all.
