The whole record is worth listening to for the wonderful cymbal crash as the band launches into the final chorus...Roger Wolfe Kahn and George Olsen have been two of my favorite 1920s-30s bands for a long time and continue to remain so...real music.
RWK one of the greatest 90 years old! Still great to wrap your brain around. A fine performance and great arangement. My grandmother born 1899 gave me her 78 when I was a kid in the 50's. Flappers are forever!
When I was in high school in the late 60s early 70s I bought an old wind up victrola for 20 bucks. I thought it was really cool looking. Then I figured "well now I have to get some records for this thing". I bought about 300 "78 rpm" records off an old lady for another 20 bucks. This started my fascination for old music. So yeah, I was listening to The Beatles and Jimmy Hendrix but I liked Gene Krupa and Harry James as well. My friends thought I was nuts
+inkey2 No you're not nuts, just insane. All of my friends thought it was really weird that I listened to Sam Lanin records in between Spanky and Our Gang albums.
Joe Marx and my friends at school think it's weird I stick in earbuds and listen to this instead of what they're playing in their loud but small speakers. Also that I have 2 Victrolas and a Columbia Grafonola. I really dunno what kids listen to at school- otherwise I'd specify
inkey2 I never understood that mentality [of your friends and mine!] I was born in '64, and was playing 78s as a toddler. That didn't mean I didn't listen to WMCA ("The Good Guys"), or WNBC for.the latest top 40 also! My parents used to play WNEW-AM, which ran the gamut from Bessie Smith through Charlie Parker to Billy Joel, with comedy from the likes of Allan Sherman, Mort Sahl, Albert Brooks, et al in between. Imagine hearing all that in the morning, before school?
My Grandma gave me a pile of 78's. This RWK performance was amongst them. This maybe this best of all the hundreds of covers of this piece. So well played it has a spirit that is incredible!
So true what you say. I've just finished reading a fascinating new biography about the Kahn family in which it details all about Roger's music career. It's titled, The Kahns of Fifth Avenue. Roger was an amazingly talented dude.
An awesome arrangement. Definitely puts me in one of my Paul Whiteman, Jean Goldkette, Ray Noble et al,. states of mind. Love that. RWK is burning it down with his orchestra and I think he was 19 when they made this record. Something like that. Very impressive, very memorable recording of a wonderful classic.
A wonderful song from that great couple of composers, I enjoyed it with that flutes, sharp violins Khan likes, in the verse, and all the charming arrangement! Thanks!
Roger Wolfe Kahn is getting rediscovered. I don't whether it is because of youtube or what, but his catalog is sneaking into fashion. I think Freddy Martin is also rising. These guys were once long forgotten except by the ardent audiophiles.

I miss Lorenz Hart's great lyrics but otherwise this is a lovely record, and the flute ensembles and overall creativity of the arrangement set this above a lot of the dance records of the time.

I once asked one of my Grandmothers if she had been a flapper? She replied No, Flappers had money!

The young ones are being introduced to this music on the bioshock games. You find their comments on many of the old music channels.
Robert Ammannes Everything old is new again, right?

Great Tune. Really has that Roaring Twenties sound!

I can't stop listening to this (or thinking about beaneries!)

Yes a great arrangement and a nice song.
An "Orthophonic Recording" (issued on one of the last '"batwing" labels that didn't identify it as such), recorded on May 27, 1926.
Super excellent
Wolfe-Kahn as a rich teen had already built a formidable musical organization before he upped the bar even more by packing it with hot soloists!

Joe Marx I bought a European pressing and paid too much, but I have it. It’s a favorite!

Thank You Mr. Marx! Btw are you related to the legendary Marx Brothers?
Nope, no relation. But how that elephant got in my pajamas I don't know....
