  • What does it mean to be engaged in your learning? When superficially understood, engagement refers to the level of involvement and participation that students have in their own learning process. But that’s an impoverished view of engagement. In today’s podcast, we’re going to take our understanding of student engagement to the next level with my guest and expert, Dr. Amy Berry.
Amy is a research fellow at the Australian Council for Educational Research and an honorary fellow at the University of Melbourne. Her career began as a primary school teacher in Queensland before returning to university to complete a research Master’s of education where she began to develop her ideas about what it means to be engaged in learning. Having sparked her passion, Amy went on to complete her doctoral studies where she explored teacher perspectives on student engagement and their approaches to engaging students in classroom learning.
Amy has extensive experience working with preservice and practicing educators all over the world, and has spent the last 10 years trying to help educators hone their skills in classroom-based assessment, play-based learning, evidence-based practice, and student engagement in learning. She has designed numerous professional learning programs for teachers, including programs on formative assessment, student engagement, and learning through play.
I really hope you find value in listening to this powerful learning podcast as we join Dr. Amy Berry on an adventure that challenges us to reimagine student engagement.
You can purchase a copy of her book, Reimagining Student Engagement: From Disrupting to Driving, from Amazon or by going directly to Corwin's webiste.
