So true about everything you said! Protect our planning, listen and respond to our needs. Trust that we're professionals doing all we can in the best interest of our school babies. I always love your vlogs ❤️💯
Agree! Planning is important so then we protect our self care and get out of school by 4pm max at end of the day then teachers don't get burned out. Sometimes teachers need time by themselves too to chill out and plan.
Tiffany May, thank you for sharing your heart, your wisdom, your faith, and your awesome procedures and tips! Your students are blessed to have a teacher who puts so much heart and soul into her teaching and who is willing to share her heart and soul with other teachers to empower us and to help us grow and help our students. You are making a better future for so many. God bless you!
Amen! Amen! Amen! Supportive principals never forget what it was like in the classroom. They understand that every teacher will have an off day here or there. They respect the years of service and understand that every teacher has gifts and it is their job to bring out the best in their staff. Thank you for your video presentation. Take care.
When my boys were in elementary school, they had a wonderful principal that my children were blessed to have. She knew every child's name, parent's name, grandparent's name. She genuinely worked her butt off and cared about every child. My boys are now men but even all of these years later, she will call me by my name and ask about my family. Love love love her. But I did had a principal when I was a kid that I was terrified of. He scared the entire student body. I still remember his name and what he looked like. Not a good representative.
@@OneFABTeacher Ok thanks. I'm learning that. I need to have balance. Can you do a video on how to lesson the paper trail and what you do to lesson it?
@@smd4751 Depends on what grade you’re teaching, but never grade classwork. Class work is just practice. Only grade the big assignments and assessments. Do not over test your students. I also usually pace myself by grading and planning during my lunch hour. My work schedule starts at 8:00 and ends at 3:00 or 3:15.
I love this so much you’re always on point🙌🏾 very well said and such accurate information for those who hold leadership roles. It’s the “give grace” for me! I feel like I’ve had an off year due to unforeseen personal issues and the judgment that came was unreal.
Giving grace is so important! We all come to work with something at some point during the year. Yes, sometimes it's just a whole school year where we struggle. That's life! Sending you many ((Hugs))♥️
Meetings can be taxing on schedules. I totally agree but as a teacher I also understand that at times administrators call meetings to restate things that was sent in an email because a lot of staff members are not adhering to policies!! I have been in the class and out of the class and have seen how many ppl don’t do the simple things. This goes both ways let’s respect one another by adhering to policies so admin doesn’t have to call a meeting about it!
Well said! Love your comments about planning! We are required to meet twice a week as a team with the IS. Not much planning is going on. It is more like a admin meeting. 😐 “What lesson are you on?” “Share what’s going well😔. I would love to reclaim my time. Miss May how many days does your team meet for planning?
Thank you! To be honest, twice a week and it makes me sad and upset. Lord knows we need as much of our own personal planning time as possible. ((Hugs))
I have a principal that compares me to the other grade level teacher. We do the exact same lessons and have the same scores. However, my grade level partner gets all the praise and credit. I hate to play the race card, but my principal is very dismissive of all the black teachers at our school. She would give weekly shout outs to every non-black teacher no matter how crappy they are, but ignores the black teachers.
This saddens me. Especially, being a black teacher myself. It truly is harder for us out here. Even for me here on RUclips. You see people pretending to be so knowledgeable and putting on this fake...never mind. I would honestly, ask your principal or express what you're noticing. This isn't right at all. I would definitely document regularly and you might need to take that documentation to your HR department. Sending you ((HUGS)) BLACK TEACHERS ROCK!
11:31 Not a Teacher, but I was in a Special Education class all my life. At my High School, my teacher had one favorite and everyone in the classroom had to cader to her. It was so annoying. The other girl in class had Autism and she would be allowed on the laptop, but the other students (including me) weren't allowed? I am glad she retired. Plus, sorry, Hate saying it. The teacher I had really bad memory loss, and often we would repeat lessons. To me, she just wasn't meant to be a teacher in that area. I would definitely be a better teacher than her.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU Ms. May!! I wish I could shout from a Teacher's Mountain top, "For 4 days a week leave me alone!" And let me do my job, internalize lessons, plan groups, collect resources, contact parents, update student files, etc!!! This video truly needs to be included in principals' training / certification programs. Again THANK YOU!!! 🙏💯👍😌
Girl! Yes, LEAVE ME ALONE! That's why teachers are frustrated and why many are leaving. They're putting too much on our plates and refuse to give grace and our time. Sending you many ((Hugs))♥️
I recall one faculty meeting we were straight up told by our principal "I better never find you sitting at your desk when the kids are with you." Praying our new principal has these qualities.
This year was such a hard year for me. Only year 3, but moved up to grade 5 and my GOD. My leadership wasn’t the best. I would have days without a lunch or prep and no one cared. Soon as I would ask, it was as if I did something wrong. If made me feel so guilty for getting what I deserve. I needed support with behaviors and was told “that’s how these kids are.” Then people went around talking about me having a hard time so confiding in her was a big mistake. I also never had any eval… thankfully I’m moving on.
How's it going? Don't burn out - just do the things that make a difference to learning not all the fancy stuff. Have a healthy work life balance. Keep going. Sleep.
I have never had a planning time since I was always a self-contained special ed teacher. I had to take my students to PE & there wasn’t a specials time for my class. And kids came in to my class as soon as they got to school & stayed until picked up
Very well said! I know that Administrators have a lot on their plates but the truth is, so do teachers. All of our plates are full. It’s just a different type of full. How do you stay on top of everything...grading, planning, etc, so you're not coming in early or staying 2 to 3 hours later afterschool?
