Thank you. At the moment I'm working on a new video in the same genre as the Padraig Flynn one. Being Irish in Ireland as an ongoing thing however is probably done, though it might be fun to revisit it once for a special occasion. Maybe the 100 year anniversary of the founding of the Free State?
A very well-made video! I'm one of a very rare breed of Irish of the current generation, as I am still a practicing Catholic. I lament the absolute tragedy of the Dissolution of the Monasteries across Ireland during the reformation, as there are so many beautiful Churches now in ruins, though I am glad of the ones that survived - however still it's painful, as all of the old medieval churches are now in the hands of the Church of Ireland, and most are glorified museums, rather than being used for worship - meaning that a lot of the older Catholic churches date from after emancipation (Beautiful ones all the same, like those designed by Pugin). I understand this is a minority opinion though.
I think the destruction of monasticism in Ireland and England during the alleged reformation is the great crime of Irish history. On a positive note though, the Institute of Christ the King is doing magnificent work restoring an old Jesuit church in Limerick, beautiful place to see.
I love all three of these buildings.. i've rung the bells in all three! but love St. Audoen's bells the most.. three of the six bells date from 1423 and are the oldest church bells in Ireland still rung by ringers
Really interesting series, love hearing your opinions and views on things especially on Ireland. You are very good at writing scripts and have a good delivery.
Excellent video. Really made me laugh and I learnt something. I have forgotten it immediately though which says far more about me than it does about this video.
I’m from Liverpool and because of Ireland’s heavy influence on Liverpool, I’ve always been dead interested in the history of Ireland. Thanks for the history lesson 👍
@@paulgorman3001 I thought it was because a lot of Irish people immigrated to Liverpool over the years (I'm thinking mostly around the 60s I'm not very well versed on this tbh)
One very important information about St Patricks that you missed out on, Johnathon Swift was the Dean there and is buried there, standing up, as he didn't want to be washed away, as there's a river under the cathedral! also, he established St Patricks hospital too!!
I enjoyed this "Eye on Dublin" - great stuff. I haven't been back since early 90's. Was living in Howth near the church (block of flats), did a "literary" pub crawl on St Paddy's Day, kissed a girl from Sandymount, drank a pint in the last snug in town before it got gentrified, watched the death of Princess DI on RTE that morning in Howth, and overheard an American asking a waiter when he went to pay his bill "what's the direction to Galway?"... from Temple Bar... summing up - LOVED IT ALL! Days of Glenroe (yep - went to the farm 'n' all) and way before the Celtic Tiger... Did you remember the many voting it took to be in the EU?????
Ah, History. Yesterday, my 24 year old colleague said she'd never heard of the Vietnam war, because it happened before she was born, and abroad. I get she might not have an interest, to have never heard of it? Blimey.
This is class. I’m actually studying medieval Ireland at uni atm. Any chance of us getting a video on Gerald of Wales and how he basically f*cked up the English image of the Irish for centuries?
best thing i know about ireland is that the "standard railway gauge" there is like 5 ft 3 inch. in the uk its a wee 1435mm. also 2:00 is that Phil Lynott? i dunno cos i seen rolf harris do better and he did 2 little boys.
Don't complain about urban planning Paddy. Sydney has you beat. Sydney is one of the finest Victorian architectural museums in the world with more rising dam and leaking roofs that you can't touch than anywhere. All this 1900 stock and planning controls causing huge house prices and affordability problems. Yay.
@@TheImparter I sort of assumed that was because your brother spends 90% of his videos pissed off with something, while you spend 90% of your videos chilling and chatting shit about being Irish.
This is just awful, so inaccurate. I gave up after a few minutes. Dublin stopped being a Viking city in 1016. Christ Church Cathedral was built originally in 1030, not by the Normans. You can still tell the pre-Norman parts from the round arches of the windows. If you are this inaccurate from the start the rest couldn't have much credibility.
PanglossDr In fairness at2:28 he did allude to the round windows as Romanesque as opposed to the Norman gothic, pointy style.I thought it was interesting and a bit of fun, aimed at people who don’t have a PhD in Architecture or History.
This is for sure one of the most underrated series on RUclips! Please continue it some day.

Yep brilliant mate. Keep her honest
The choir from my primary school was invited every January to play in Christchurch. Gorgeous building

No idea why this channel showed up in my recommendations, but I'm glad it did. Top work.
Your editing is very good. Hope you begin to release videos more often.

Dublin and liverpool accents are very similar all because the one viking king or leader ruled both cities

Great stuff, glad to see someone else shares my rather jaundiced view of Irishness and its meaning.
Nice video man, tell everyone about the class churches in Limerick lol
Please do an updated version of the past 6 month very funny videos
Thank you, just thankyou.
Nice one Conor!

I was looking this up in Wikipedia articles last month little did I know this video was waiting for me right here
I like how you tie the conclusion into something powerfully important like destroying our history!
"It took them so long to build this fucker . . . " man, I can not stop laughing!
Wonderful stuff

Fun, though I am not sure Brian Boru would have thought Ireland's colonial problems began with Strongbow!
Thank you for teaching us about your country. You are often overshadowed by the English folk

No that's not phil lynott. Its Luke Kelly a titan of Irish folk music and one of the founders of The Dubliners.
For a deeper look into ancient Irish culture and spirituality try macdari Connors 'Irish wisdom preserved in Bible and pyramids'

I dont think that's actually Strongbows Coffin. It was lost many moons ago.

Vikings ruled at Ireland at one point? Fuck that might explain why I'm mostly Nordic with a drop of Irish in me

Pity about the bad language. It reduces the standard of this good video.

Watch a video about Irish history by an American then. For fucks sake.
