- Jerry West pays tribute to Kobe before he takes the court for the last time in the Bay Area.

It's funny I started watching Kobe when I was just a little kid. Now I'm growing into a man and trying to take on the world while Kobe is on his way out. I've always heard how other people have praised his work ethic and how insanely hard he works. I didn't really think much of it at the time. I just wanted to see Kobe do incredible things on the basketball court. But now I'm really starting to understand that if you want make a great life for yourself, not just mediocre or secure, but really make your life something amazing, you gotta work your ass off. You can have all the talent and brains in the world, but if you don't apply the work, then nothing will ever pay off. As I'm slowly transitioning into adulthood and really looking at things around me, I'm starting to see that if your work ethic isn't top notch, your life will never be amazing. It may be okay or good, but it will never be amazing. If you're not striving for excellence, then what are you striving for? Only a great work ethic can strive for excellence.

Low key teared up a bit at the end there. And I think it's because I've rooted against him for so long, being a Celtics fan when I was a little kid, and being a thunder fan, watching them face my thunder in the playoffs, the epic duals of him matched up on Westbrook, and the scoring matches between him and KD. He's been an incredible played, and like Jerry said, he's changed the landscape of this sport forever. I don't think I'll stop hearing kids yelling out,"Kobe!" On the playgrounds until I'm old and have grandkids. Kobe made the 2000s NBA one hell of a game to watch. Heck, I didn't like either of them at the time, but even those Lebron vs Kobe match ups back in 2007-2009 were incredible things weren't they. It's going to suck not having this incredible, spectacular, one of a kind player that the mamba is in the NBA next year. It was truly a pleasure watching you throughout your career Kobe, thanks for all the great moments and memories. Make this last season of your career great.
