Cute deck. I was thinking this was going to be a must-have after seeing the Majors and those beautiful backs…but the minors fell a little flat and really don’t like the court cards. I agree the cards need numbers/titles. But I always enjoy your walkthroughs and insightful commentary. Thank you. :)
the artwork is very cute, and the backs are the prettiest i've ever seen, but i'm really struggling with the idea that any 3 yo will understand the majority of these. my 4yo is interested in my tarot (as he is in anything i do, thats how kids are) and i've been trying to think of a way to introduce them when he gets a little older. the majors of this are mostly nice though i feel like some clearer symbols would have been helpful, and definitely key words and more unique minors and court cards with something! like if you asked my son about what is happening in the 1-10 of wands he would say dogs playing for all of them. it feels more like a tool to teach kids the system of RWS tarot, and symbols that themselves would require a host of background explanation, rather than a tool for self-discovery/confident/exploring emotions etc. I like the idea of one character making a journey for each suite, but it just didn't seem to work. i think it is a valiant effort and a good goal, but i'm not sure, for my child at least, that this would work.
Yeah I also don't like the cursive hard to read font. I would just get my little one (he's 6) an animal or cat deck. Also I wouldn't have a death card in a deck for a 3 year old... My son really likes my wild unknown deck.
@@ultravioletpisces3666 he saw the halloween tarot in a shop and really liked it. i go back and forth on death in general, but i think it helps them to slowly understand it's a part of life if we don't sensor it out. i feel like every kids movie starts with parents dying...
If I were doing a deck for kids that young, I would rename a lot of cards. The fool would probably be "silly goose" cards 2,3,4 and 5 would be grandmother, mother, father, grandfather (something a child can identify with), death maybe "shedding skin" hanged man would be monkey bars/"upside down." Possibility no words at all on the cards. I'd write the book in such a way that the child's understanding could grow over time. (Grandmother woukd eventually become the high priestess, shedding skin woukd eventually become transformation and eventually death...) Now I've given all my ideas away. 😎😏
I backed this deck too, and it’s one of my focus decks this month (my theme for the month is “fighting feels yucky” 💕) I’m pairing it with the Coastal Curiosities oracle and they work together pretty well so far. I agree with you about the backs. I have cards with more ornate backs, but this one is just satisfying to look at. I’ve been referring to the suits by the pictures, so, all the cards I’ve drawn this month are from the suit of Feathers so far. (I do shuffle, I swear.) I love the silly little bird.
I'm curious what was the purpose in making all the suits pets, but the major arcana was wild animals. This deck is adorable. I think even though it was for kids they could have put titles on the cards. Kids that can't read, will eventually, but probably most kids that receive this deck will already know how to read. If the goal is to teach kids tarot, titles would be helpful. But that's just my opinion. This deck is super cute. If my son (age 4) ever shows interest in tarot I would get this for him for sure. My older kids (14) already have their own decks. 😁
Yes I agree with you about the titles!! And it could be a fun way to help them learn to read if they're interested in the deck, plus many repeating words! As for the Majors being wild and the minors being pets.... my opinion/feeling on it is that it illustrates the difference between the bigger/wilder energies of the majors and the everyday life sorta feeling of the minors in a nonverbal way. If that makes sense?
I guess the minors are the day to day, everyday stuff, like a pet. While the majors are bigger, deeper things, like a trip to the zoo or seeing an animal in the wild?
I agree with you about the spider xD Justice is "my" card and if someone would've told me "there is a spider on the justice card" I think I would've said "okay, that's a no!". But I like the spider, I like the dapiction of Justice :D The only other spiders I like in tarot is the 9 of Swords in Shadowland Tarot - but there it's 9 spiders above a bed and it makes so much sense for nightmares and (irrational) anxiety. But besides that (and animals oracles) I didn't think it was possible that I would like spiders in a deck xD Over all... I love the artstyle. I love the majors, I love the wand suit. I don't like the court cards. And I don't really like the cups and swords - not only are they harder to read and not as clear. I also don't like fish in a bowl and a single bird in a cage. So over all it's a NO for me. I love animal decks and I love the artstyle. But that's not enough.
When I backed this deck, I was surprised that you haven't mentioned it on your channel. Mine is still on the customs service so I guess I will console my impatience by watching your video.🥰
I am not sure of the card size, but it seems like they should be playing card size or bridge size for kids to be able to handle and shuffle the cards. I remember shuffling cards as a kid, trying to riffle shuffle and do the bridge was a big deal. I just bought a Peanuts deck to connect with my younger self. I am super excited even though I paid a little too much for the value of the deck.
Yah they are big, but I also feel like it'll draw kids in more that way - like a picture book has BIG pictures... at least that's what i'm thinking. Same with the rose petal - not great for a shuffle but texturally exciting to kids probably! I really think they thought about all the kid-friendly details on this deck!
For the young at heart, yes. For 3 years old, I'd argue no. The cards are beautiful and child-friendly images and a beautiful, gentle, color palette. But I don't know of any child of 3 who can read a guidebook, and I'd argue if the card visuals don't immediately depict a story that a child can interpret or explain, then it's not a deck for 3 year olds or even kids a few years older. Some of the cards remind me of Dixit card images. I noticed you mentioning needing to read the guidebook about some cards and if you, an adult, need to do that, then it's definitely not conceived for a child. I think maybe they considered the child tag a marketing ploy to appeal to parental shoppers. It seems very definitely a situation where the parent would have to adopt a teacher mode to train a child how to use tarot, even with this deck. And I'm not sure a child would have the patience for that, opting to simply play with the cards and tell stories with the images. I also think the 'soft touch' texture would make it difficult for child shuffling (or scooting around on a tabletop to mix). Personally, I find that 'soft touch' or 'rose petal' texture very clumpy and difficult to shuffle. That being said, even though I'm not generally a fan of animal decks, I might just consider getting a copy of this deck for myself. I do admit to being young at heart, despite outwardly appearing as an old curmudgeon.
I really love the artist’s style and the Majors are perfect. It’s just the swords and cups really kinda fail. The wands are the best out of all the minors and the pentacles second place. They need numbers to help with ease of use especially for kids. And the minors stray sooo far from RWS so how is this going to teach kids, and how can adults relate as well. I’m sadly disappointed bc I was soooo looking forward to this. Like I said I think the artist’s style is amazing and perfect and the Majors and wands are great but all the rest not so much sadly. So much potential that falls short
I think in the 7 of swords the bird has sneaked out of the cage and is looking back - like haha! I'm free and you haven't noticed!!!

In the 7 of swords he's in a very classic 7 of swords posture for sneaking away from what I see
The little pug in the wands suit has sold me! 🐶🥰😄💖🐾

The Magician is a Coyote, by the way, which makes even more sense in the context of the card.
I love all the woodland creatures. Very cute. Would not stand the test of my personal "Say Yes to the Deck" against Oak, Ash and Thorn.
I got mine earlier this week and was just blown away. SO much more beautiful in person. I want to paint my room the colour of those card backs!
I was about to order the deck until you got to the Minors. Felt that they could have put more into the cards.
Awww this is the sweetest deck! 😍
The Greek Moirai who spin, measure and cut. Aka the fates 😀

I absolutely love this! My 3 year has a RWS deck she usually just copies me but eventually I will teach her how to read. Thanks for showing us these
The Greek Fates. This deck is SO cute I could perish.
