People are aloud to cover songs. 3 out of the 5 copyright laws are allowed to be used. The only ones that can't be used are distribute and display. Pretty good job guys!
Congrats Debbie. This video has been seen in Portugal, and your voice has melt some hearts here... Excelent voice. Very in tune and sweet... Keep singing, girl!
This guys voice isnt bad at all, its just not great for this song. He can jam out to something a bit different and do awesome. In my opinion this song requires your voice to have a certain grity emotion behind it and his voice is very straightforward to the point and takes away from it. Overall though i really enjoyed it! Thanks guys!
In fact, I must agree with most comments (even though I think 2Pac515 went a lil' too far) when people say that the male singer ruins it. The guitars and bass were very well-played and Debbies's voice (again) is flawless, but that guy just didn't cut. Of course you can't be as good as Akerfeldt but... y'know...
Mr. Akefeldt said he'd rather be playing "Burden" type songs. I personally believe that the online metal community is stunting the musical growth of Opeth. I can't say for certain because I'm not Mikeal, but 2 out of the 4 times that I've seen them they ended their setlist with "The Drapery Falls" instead of "Demon of the Fall", I read somewhere that they felt it was sending the wrong message. They probably went back to it because of a backlash from the losers on the web.
Has anyone who has given this cover positive feedback even heard what Coil was MEANT to sound like? Listen to the original, check out Opeth's discography, and then comment. Covers like this make me cringe; anyone with a good sense of tonality would realise that the only redeeming feature in this is the female vocals, and that's simply because they sound 'pretty'.
Opeth is my favorite band of all time. To the chick--great job. You hit Nathalie's vocals almost perfectly. The rest of the group (including the HORRIBLE male singer) should travel around a sharp curve at 100 miles per hour for mutilating what is potentially one of the most beautiful Opeth songs on record. FAIL.
its a solid job, on the part of the musicians and the female vocals (which are exceedingly well done). That still does not excuse that dude's singing, which I find slightly more tolerable than being woken up by a fucking bear roaring in my ear as I try to shut off my alarm clock at 5 in the morning all the while having the Kool Aide jar burst through the fucking wall, shouting Nazi slogans. Believe me, its no fun... ;_;
I agree with the hatred towards the guy, well not completely agree he is at least up there trying I am far to chickenshit of being judged just like he is being judged now. However Debbie your voice is fucking incredible keep doing what you are doing and see meager income and success just like many other musicians whom have great talent. You are much better than Katy Perry which sadly limits your ceiling of success cause people generally like shitty music. Not me though I like your style.
HA, Sure was fun typing that mess out. In truth, the guys voice is good, its just that his singing style is not at all what the song demands. It requires a far more soulful and potent performance that, frankly, he could not deliver. There are moments in his delivery were he strays away from the original performance and adds his own spin to it. This is by no means a bad thing, but it could have been done better; we got something out of tune and too much into the realm of the pop singer
He's not that horrible... he's just not that good either. Honestly, I heard a few times where the girl was off key, too. You try singing live, see how easy it is to get it 100% right on the first try.
I definitely don't like the guys voice. It's no where deep enough for Mikael's vocals. Debbie did pretty good though. I can;t help but feel that the guitar went off tempo a couple of times, but it was easy to look past.
opeth is like musicianship steroids. so if somebody tries to do a cover without being dead on, 100%, giving it their all, making all the parts look like child play, (even though, in this video they are not exacting graceful in some part) it comes of as mediocre the notes can be a bore, if thats all that is happening Opeth is musicianship at its finest. no notes, just music.
liked it... the male voice need a lot of practice and maybe another singer... hahaha but never the less was a fairly good cover, it makes me laugh the guys that still thinks that metal is about what you wear... like 2pac515 who is so into metal that have a name like 2pac... hopefully in some years you'll grow up and realize that clothes and that shit have nothing to do with it... you can wear whatever you want and still love metal, and maybe just maybe someday you'll learn to love all music
ella suena increible.. el... no tiene sentido de lso tiempos.y canta corto y ajustado. mal. she sing greats!.. but him..well.he need aloot. of male voice. lol.. wait for adultness.. pal! cya.. girls..you sing...butyfll...sorry for bad english!
Overall i thought it was ok. The guitars and female vocalist were spot on. but the male singer.. just no. I always said covers are YOUR interpretation of a song. but i mean. that song is meant for a deeper voice just to sound good. and the bass. that wasn't an interpretation, that was an embarrassment.
I don't see why so many douches with an acoustic guitar try covering this song on youtube, especially since 98% of the covers sound like this. The vocals and acoustic bass are pretty horrid. The only saving factor is the female singing. Very beautiful singing voice =)
female vocals are excellent. one more bit of feeling and it's perfect. male vocals, not that good..! the last note in that major scale was pretty fucking false..! good job though!
I know I read what I type, though, I think you need lessons in both logic and rhetoric. The problem isn't with covering Opeth. The problem is that every "Opeth fan" with an acoustic guitar and a youtube account seems to cover this song, almost all of which are terrible. If these people are really fans, they would know not to ruin a masterpiece song such as Coil. It's fine if they want to play the song in private, but if you're posting it publicly, be prepared to be criticized if you suck.
FAIL.
The female vocals are the saving grace of this video.
She sounds EXACTLY the same as the studio version of Coil. Amazing!
HOLY CRAP!!! you sound exactly like Nathlie Lorichs! you are the most amazing female singer i have ever heard!
They did such a good job, your just jelous because you probley cant sing that good as Debbie and Dave.
Awsome job guys! Keep up the GREAT work :)
why is everyone hating on the dude, he's not even that bad
This guys voice isnt bad at all, its just not great for this song. He can jam out to something a bit different and do awesome. Glad to hear an Opeth cover... nice :)
Definitely, the debbie`s voice is the best of this cover
Great Voice Debbie!
You've recreated all the good parts coming from the original singer,
and you gave a more solid, thicker sound to it.
the girl owns on vocals, good job!
Mr. Akefeldt said he'd rather be playing "Burden" type songs. I personally believe that the online metal community is stunting the musical growth of Opeth. Please cover Benighted for us here
You have a beautiful voice.
Wow... couldn't have said it better myself. lol
DEBBIE!
Awesome cover! Not very fond of the guys voice, but it's just cause i'm use to the originals. But Debbie, you did swell lol
No feeling man.... Opeth is all about feeling.....
The guitarist next to the singer looks like Martin Lopez ;D
Gotta say, the guy doing Akerfeldt's vocals, pretty bad. Debbie, you make up for it though. You seriously nail those notes!
debbie your voice is awesome x 10
so true

the girls voice is really amazing.. just wish the guitarist could hit the notes properly
debbie i love you!!

its ok!, i love your voice, its make s me happy!:-)

@2Pac515 I like how your comment is about keeping it metal, yet your account name has 2pac in it..
I agree with the hatred towards the guy, well not completely agree he is at least up there trying I am far to chickenshit of being judged just like he is being judged now. the dude sings an other style, doesnt sounds like opeth..
Dude's voice isn't terrible, he just needs some training. The way he sings it is pretty terrible but I hear potential.
The male vocalist needs to chill and slow down, otherwise, I liked it.
Forward to 2:00 and you'd probably find this half as bad *shrug*
@2Pac515 Lol!
I definitely don't like the guys voice. It's no where deep enough for Mikael's vocals. Debbie did pretty good though.

The girl did better vocals than in the other vids. But still not great.

girls voice perfect, the guys voice is seriously shit, he needs to slow down, and have a sence of sadness when he sings that song
It was good, but too punk rock.
ya i definately ruined this whole song
Learned how to use proper grammar and not be 1337.
female vocals are excellent. one more bit of feeling and it's perfect.
male vocals, not that good..! the last note in that major scale was pretty fucking false..!
good job though!
The timing is discomforting.

That dude ruined it
BOOOOO!!!! To the Male singer! Opeth is NOT music for the Emo people to sing. boo. All I hear from him is 'Whine Whine Whine' Get off an amazing song.
Damn 2pac hates, lol
omg this guy cant sing
hes yelling :D
