I can't believe I'm 71 and been doing electronic stuff all my life and I've never thought of cutting cables at an angle to make them easier to strip!!!
Got to tell you about this. Bought two mics off Amazon less than ten pounds each. Look like a lewit. Says 240 pro on microphone. They are rubbish. I only wanted them for the bodies. So took them apart. Took hours. All glued together, double mesh glued front and back. Then hidden screws as well. The reason I am letting you know is. When I got it apart. No circuit board at all. Tiny little capsule hidden behind the round mesh. Going straight to the xlr. The best bit a lump of pot metal shaped to fit the bottom of the microphone held in place with big sticky pad. very heavy. Noticed a few sites have them. So let you and your readers know. My friend said other microphones have had the metal trick as well. Love your channel. Keep at it. I have put my own guts in them and they are great for me.
this is phenomenal! i appreciate you! i realized that "Mic Boosters" are just phantom powered circuits. i just took the chip from the aokeo ak 60 and wired it into my sm 48 and it works and isnt as gain hungry now. keep that other circuit you took out of the condenser! its technically a mic booster as well 🙃🙌
I love it. Keep it up. These mods are more useful than people think. I am always messing around with mine. I have loads of cheap new mics to play with. As you say cheap ones available online Love your channel.
Interesting! I fix mics on my channel also. I have a busted Sennheiser MD21-U that I'm going to do something similar to since I can't find a new original capsule (or cartridge). Keep it up!
Great vid. I did this with a neewer mic. I want to make one now with twin xlr on the mic. So no booster or booster plugin to second socket if you know what I mean. Keep at it. Love your vids.
That's the great thing about the RUclips audio landscape...your channel is bigger and more will see your version ...including me...I wanna see it! Do it please!
@@ObscureMics oh don't worry...its coming. It has been a very busy summer of content...and I ended up adding more day jobs... It's coming.......eventually
@@ObscureMics Hello. Great video. Could you please do an update on what other Mic Shell(s) should be bought since the one you linked is not available anymore? What dimension should the shell be so the capsule and other stuff can fit into it? Perhaps there are other suitable shells out there which are just as good but a different brand. If it's possible an aliexpress/banggood/etc. link would be great for those whose Amazon is too expensive because of import fees and shipping costs.

This is truly an Obscure Mic.
Sounds great, given me ideas to show the kids some basic electronic circuits and the difference at the end.
Great work.
Much appreciated!

No way.....
If this is indeed true....omg....I'm doing a video
@@ObscureMics Yep! i just wired mine. if you have an sm58 lying around, might be an awesome video since that one is known to be gain hungry.
I have a 48....I'll roll with it. I'm so intrigued now
I think it was a great idea. That would help the M-Audio interface to keep you away from the jump at the top. 👍🏻👍🏻
Now I'm thinking of turning non-mic objects into mics. A flashlight maybe? Put some nice grille material where the lens was.
Sounds like a plan!

Thanks again!!
Dang and it sounds really good. I vote genius!
I was really happy with the sound!
So would this be possible to convert a USB mic to XLR by attaching direct to the condenser capsule ?
No you will need a circuit board made for a condenser capsule
Love it. Been thinking of doing much the same thing for a while.
Definitely a fun build
@@ObscureMics Was gonna built my own booster amp. Now I don't have to do that step. Thanks! 👍
Thanks for watching!

Thanks! I’m on my way to your channel now!
You are McGyver my friend👏👏👏
Just having a good time Tammy!
MicGyver
Just discovered your channel, this is genius !
I very much appreciate that! it's definitely fun!
very good idea
can i use condenser capsule instead?
Only if you have a circuit board for a condenser capsule that will fit in the mic body
Would be fun to squeeze the same basic set-up into a Shure 55 shaped body! Budget Super 55
The switch would have to be bypassed I'd think....and probably difficult still.....I'm gonna leave that one to you lol
@@ObscureMics If I can ever find the unobtanium CT1 I'll give it a shot!
Great job on this video. Thanks for making it.
Thank you for watching it
What will happen if a dynamic capsule put into a condenser pcb board?
Good question! Let’s find out by way of a video
Very clean brother, wonder if it would work with a Rode Podmic 🤔
Near certain it would

Sad to be beaten to the punch 😞
Happy to see proof of concept 🙂
Dope video!
Never beaten to the punch! The more videos the better. Thank you;
Sounds pretty decent
Defi itely good enough
wait what this actually sounds insane
It was fun to build!
You stole my idea!!
LOL.
That said I have some other ideas...
Nicely done!

I understand lol. I'll be here when it drops
Is the capsule externally polarized or is it an electret?
It's a dynamic capsule
I think the DM1 is a bit longer.
I felt like that was the case as well
Well done 👍
Thanks John!
Which soldering gun is that?
Just a cheap Amazon one
ok now turn a handheld dynamic into a side address condenser
lol I was messing around with this last night
I really like klark teknik
Great little device for the price
intørnals of the microføn
7:25 god tier moment, i love it hahaha
lol glad someone enjoys my crudeness
@@ObscureMics plus the video is amazing but the capsule is some sus
Don't like the tone?
The donor "condenser" is a special kind of junk. Good riddance.
Oh yeah. Horrible internals
