Amen to that; they were beautiful and had good chemistry, together, with their acting. I still don't know, why Steve, went to Prison. Hope someone, will "upload" more episodes, it is like, time travel. Thanks for the memories.
Jacqueline Courtney will always be Alice in my heart. I loved her laugh. I was an 8 year old boy who always had a crush on her right into my adulthood. She responded to a letter I once sent her and responded back with an autographed photo. She was a kind and gentle soul. She and George Reinholt left a memorable legacy.
That's very sweet that she did that. She's a kind & gentle soul that was taken from us much too soon. I think she would have been appreciated much more on As the World Turns - but at least she and George Reinholt were snapped up by One Life to Live.
I always thought of Jacqueline Courtney as "Butterfly Alice" because of her grace and beauty! I got used to the recasts as this show seemed to do all the time, but I was definitely happy to see her return in the 80s.
Jacqueline Courtney was able to show so much emotion and sadness in those eyes! When Alice's world was falling apart, her eyes screamed it. Also, the chemistry between her and Reinholt was thru the roof. They were great together!
I like Jacquie Courtney and even Reinholt was OK in this scene, i think the failure is the writing. LeMay may complain that Courtney’s acting was “too soap operaish”, but his writing here feels exactly that way. Where is Steve and Alice’s passion? Where is their anger? They said nothing to each other, yet she is willing to go back to him! The person who steals the show is Connie Ford. She knows her daughter has hurt Alice and as much as she loves Rachel, she really does not want to see Alice unhappy.
Jacqueline Courtney was invited back in the 1984-85 season, and Another World parted ways with her again. And she was one of the original AW cast members. It would've been nice if AW bosses had invited Courtney back in 1999 when the show ended, and not wasted that opportunity, to give fans closure on Alice's story.
I LOVED ANOTHER WORLD,ALICE,WAS SO SO PRETTY. SHE WAS ON ANOTHER SOAP OPERA,BUT HER BEST WORK WAS ON ANOTHER WORLD. LOVED ALL THE ACTORS AND ACTRESSES ON ANOTHER WORLD. ALICE, DIED IN REAL LIFE. HOW LONG AGO DID SHE PASS AWAY WISH THEY COULD BRING ANOTHER WORLD BACK.
I'll never understand how AW let her go. She was a beloved actress playing a beloved character -- and they tried 5 (i think) different actresses in the role -- and not a one came close to Courtney's portrayal. Finally someone was smart enough to hire her back -- but the show did little with her -- and she was soon gone again. It was nice that she came back for the anniversary show -- but she should have remained on the show for its entire run!.
Harding Lemay hated Jacqueline Courtney and her portrayal of Alice. He called her an "actress turned what was written as muted, catatonic grief, into a histrionic display more fitting to a 19th-century madhouse." As this happened, Courtney was unhappy she was suggested to change her portrayal. As a result, Paul Raunch fired Courtney in 1975, along with George Reinholt.
@@DegrassiInstantStar George Reinholt was fired for constantly complaining to the soap press about Rauch and Lemay. Reinholt had also posed nude for a European magazine which violated the morals clause in his contract, Jacquie was fired for her acting style and refusing to play the story of Alice adopting Sally and being a single mom.
The original core family, the Matthews family, were the best thing about this show. When it focused on them & their associates / friend's, they were the Golden years of the show. The mistake was killing off Mary Matthews, replacing Alice, and writing out Pat & her family. Rachel & Mac were good, but they shouldnt have been made the focus of the show instead of the Matthews / Randolphs / Frames. And the silly over the top characters & plots from the 80s ruined the show further. I didn't watch into the 90s. Had Another World not made all those errors in the 70s / early 80s, it probably would have lasted longer and kept higher ratings like OLTL or ATWT.
Yes. And Liz Matthews, her son Bill and his wife, Melissa. And Walter and Lenore were important too. Steve and Alice were my favorite super couple of all time. They had such chemistry. I adored George and was devastated when he left.
Bill Bell who would later create along with his wife Lee Phillip Bell The Y&R was co creator and co head writer of this show along with Irma Phillips that’s why it was so intriguing and cutting edge, he left to become head writer for the then struggling Days of Our Lives.
The Corys were never a family you could relate to. They had interesting moments, but I found Mac too pompous and Rachel too unsympathetic -- especially after her early years. There was nothing wrong with introducing Mac Cory, but it shouldn't have resulted in the end of the Matthews clan.
I recall hating Tribbey the moment I saw her - but now, watching the replays - there is something charming about her. Maybe if she'd have hung on - I may have gotten used to her. I never got used to any of the others.
Harding Lemay enjoyed Susan Harney in the role, and did enjoy writing for her take. He spoke of her as "a personable, well-trained actress who resembles Miss Courtney slightly but was a far better actress."
Yeah, Courtney is THE Alice, if not the greatest actress. Lemay did NOT get Courtney fired, he just thought her talents minimal. Unfortunately she sided with Reinholt in the backstage drama which made Paul Rauch angry. The producer was the boss so if you made him hate you, kiss your job goodbye. Reinholt was an egomaniacal, incredibly pompous man who was bitter about something in his personal life. He could be fun and was friends with Courtney and Strasser whom, in my opinion, left not only for her given reasons but also because she saw something was gonna explode. Reinholt was truly abominable to Victoria Wyndham-critizing her loudly so she'd overhear and hurling insults to her face. He obnoxiously badmouthed his scripts, the writer, the producer and others. But what really got him canned was an interview he gave in which he publicly aired his many grievances. That was the last straw.
I really didn't watch AW that much - am more an ATWT fan - my late Mom did like AW, however. IMO from what I remember and what I saw here, it was blatantly crappy of Lemay and Rausch to fire Jacquie while she was on vacation and by telephone no less when she returned - also pretty unprofessional to fire someone that way. She wasn't a bad actress but his writing sounded stilted - the character though was and looked a bit too innocent, but not Jacquie's fault. George I could see slightly attitude wise why he got canned. At least One Life to Live had the good sense to snap them up once they got canned - and they later lured Robin Strasser to that show as well.
Steve and Alice were the soaps first super couple. I love going back and reliving these episodes. Thank you!
Actually, Jeff and Penny on ATWT were the first supercouple.
Didn't Rachel love Steve too
@@joycepino5346 Yes, she had a devious way of showing it though.

I always thought of Jacqueline Courtney as "Butterfly Alice" because of her grace and beauty! I got used to the recasts as this show seemed to do all the time, but I was definitely happy to see her return in the 80s.
Jackie was the ultimate Alice.
Jacqueline Courtney was able to show so much emotion and sadness in those eyes! When Alice's world was falling apart, her eyes screamed it. Also, the chemistry between her and Reinholt was thru the roof. They were great together!
Harding Lemay made a big mistake letting Steve and Alice go and shifting the soap toward Iris Rachel and Mac instead of the Matthews
As far as l am concerned Jackie will always be Alice. Used to run home from school to watch her every day.
Ada was so comforting. Loved her❤

On The UK Soap Opera Seven Actors played Peter Beale.
Alice was too good for Steve
Jacqueline Courtney was definitely my favorite! Second favorite: Vana Tribbey. Harney, Pfenning and Borgeson were simply awful.
