@@mi1400 you are the definition of a brain washed person. No 1 during the war for Kashmir, India still captured the 2/3 of Kashmir's land that's why India was proclaimed as the winner of the war. No 2 During the war of 1971 the war was against Pakistan in which Mukti bayni (Bangladesh leberation group) took help of Indian army and got trained by them to fight against Pakistan and get freedom and then India also joined later, which resulted in Pakistan surrendering 93k soilders (one of the highest in history of world) that war was won by India. India plan was never to capture Bangladesh, that's why it was the first to recognise it as independent country.

Berlin Wall fell because it was a wall between two occupational zones dividing one nation. All other walls, except the Korean wall protect individual nations against intruders.
The wall on the border between Greece and Turkey was necessary because, in addition to refugees, other people were also entering Greece, such as many illegal immigrants who, according to statistical data, created many problems such as an increase in crime and the movement of drugs.

4:36 there isn't any wall between India and Myanmar, in fact there is a free movement agreement between village people of both the countries to cross into other upto 30 kms, although this might soon be changing, as the civil war in Myanmar is resulting in increased armed migration, which is causing ethnic conflicts inside India and a "Wall" or a fencing is under proposal, although it would take years to implement it if at all, as there is disagreements from the state governments. I am from Siliguri Corridor, the chicken's neck region in India, so I am just kilometers away from Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan and China. And each is different, while Nepal and India has complete free movement, For Bhutan, you need a little more entry checking, but those are only at the specific border gates, in other places the borders are just rivers and one can easily cross into the other. With China there is one entry point(Nathula which is part of ancient Silk route) and only trade between locals are allowed. Bangladesh is different case, as it's mostly fenced and guarded, illegal migration has come down over the years, but cross border smuggling(of cows, fake currencies, arms, gold and all sorts of stuff) is rampant, also some terrorists move between the 2 countries when they feel unsafe in one. However, international organized trade happens between not just India and Bangaldesh, but also from Nepal and Bhutan through the Siliguri corridor. Also, Special bus and train(both passenger and cargo) services run between the 2 countries though multiple entry points.

@@Amuzic_Earth Ah, okay! Interesting that they have grazing fields across the border and are being let across to graze - it sounds like a very local-friendly approach to borders, which is nice.
@@biedisunizlietne yes. In India a lot of rules are flexible to cater to people across different level of economic and social strata. That's the reason you see a lot of supposed "bad things" such as slums, people loitering in railway stations and uneven build ups in city streets. Those slums are people encroaching on govt lands because they couldn't otherwise afford homes, those people loitering in the railway stations couldn't afford hotels to wait for their trains, those uneven building are there because if a strict building code and inspection law is incorporated, there won't be enough buildings built in time to keep people from being homeless etc etc. In other countries they are just kicked in the balls and ended up homeless or in institutions. This is why when PPL outside of India complain about why it's so chaotic, we collectively roll our eyes. We just traded off external forms and symmetry in exchange for basic functionalities...that's all.And before you say, why their situations are not being alleviated, yes it is, the people in those conditions are not a static layer, people In different layers constantly move up in social and economic ladders...but it's a huge population and the number of people in the lower rungs is steadily decreasing.

As ugly as the walls are, it is every country’s right to protect its borders and its people. Enough with this utopia of everyone being able to go anywhere.
I agree. I live in Texas, and the issues with our borders are very real. The reality is that it is not just "migrants" coming across but also our enemies freely coming across too. People that legitimately want to do harm to us Americans. And before I hear the asylum excuse, per International Law, they are supposed to stop in the first safe country. Last I checked, Mexico is still (mostly) safe. And if they weren't, then we have all the more reason to enhance our border.

Yes, walls work. Walls are not perfect. Why do people have doors on their houses? Doors can be broken. It’s not that deep. Think you went into this with preconceived notions. Would’ve liked to hear more about obscure border walls, their appearances, and the surrounding tensions. You forgot the massive, growing Egypt-Gaza border wall. The 1600+ mile border between Pakistan and Afghanistan for example has been credited with curbing attacks, smuggling, illegal entry in a volatile region. Legal immigration definitely needs reforms in the West. However, countries can’t just open their doors and let people walk in unvetted.
Hey there, I agree that countries can't just open their borders. I'm just not convinced walls work to stem it. One thing I could have showed more is how walls can freeze conflicts. Like in Belfast, Cyprus or North Korea (and Pakistan and Afghanistan, I haven't researched that particular wall enough to say something about it). They definitely don't solve conflicts but they can stop flare ups.
@@ThePresentPast_ True, that's another interesting aspect. There're also several variables when determining the effectiveness of walls. The Mexico-U.S. border for example is not continuous. One major gap, The San Judas Break, went viral on Chinese TikTok earlier this year. Over 4 days in Feb., CBS 60 Minutes witnessed nearly 600 migrants - adults and children - come through the 4-foot gap at the end of a border fence 60 miles east of San Diego. 37,000 Chinese citizens were apprehended as they illegally crossed the border last year. The Mexican government recently setup a checkpoint at San Judas. Now people will just cross in another gap. Other questions remain about border walls such as: How easy and common is it to create a gap in the wall? Can officials be bribed? Do geographical formations or weather deter crossings in certain countries? How to stem ocean crossings? Does the country have net immigration or net emigration? Does stricter legislation in countries help deter? Are certain building materials less effective? Do certain governments secretly help crossing for cheap labor? And if not a wall, then what? The uniqueness and complexity about each border makes wall effectiveness difficult to judge. Anyways, thanks and keep up the good work always an entertaining watch!
I love how you don’t bother with talking about weather or not the walls have stopped illegal migration too those countries? Instead you went the opposite

As much as I know, there are no walls in Latin America... yet. But as the video production suggested, fences might be starting to be put up soon. The reasons? A few are quite obvious: the need to stop migrants to flee from rogue states -like Chavez / Maduro's Venezuela and Ortega's Nicaragua-, or from failed states like Haiti -for whose good honest people I feel sorrow and am concerned. Some other reasons might not be so evident: political ideologies and economic interests -for example, the copper mine issue in the seemingly successful Panama, just to mention one in millions. The expression "political ideologies" is an unsubtle metaphor for raw anger of power and rampant political corruption. The issues of "racism", "bordering ancient closed communities" or "overpopulated regions" are not present in Latin America yet as a major conflict cause. Those are primarily European and Asian causes. But who knows what the future might bring... And last, but not least, I express my deepest gratitude to The Present Past's crew for their videos. They perform an outstanding work. Cheers from Mendoza, in central western Argentina.

Why does the "Do walls work" section completely ignore pro-wall arguments, such as the statistics from Hungary, clearly showing that illegal crossings fell to basically zero after their wall was built, and asylum claims disappeared?
Nah man being pro walls means you don’t love ur neighbor. It’s an “us” vs “them” thing that hurts people looking for a better life. Capital can move but not labor 🤨
Magnificent video, very complete, and so interesting analysis about the USA Mexico wall, I am Mexican and is a very unpopular opinion, but I liked the trump idea of a complete wall in the border.
I feel the RUclips comments don’t have as much restriction which is why I feel inclined to say that borders are a construct, or something that isn’t grounded in evidence and rather a superficial solution to a superficial problem. What Europe is doing within its territory is great. The free travel between countries is exactly what needs to be implemented everywhere and to *everyone* because we all share this world. The only reason why borders exist is because of racist, xenophobic and fear-mongering as well as the trauma of oppressive nations or the belief of. Is the USA like Central Asia nations who feels they need to affirm their sovereignty? No, and yet constantly we are warned about immigration from people seeking asylum, from a nation which rooted itself as the North Star of freedom. Like you said in the video, europe is not completely for immigration but in an ideal world, everybody from any nation could freely travel in between. Also just as a note, notice how borders have also CAUSED conflicts and how efforts of the US to protect these borders or “freedom” or “national security” in various places have consequently wrecked those places, economically, politically etc
Borders are such a modern concept that began after the industrial revolution and the rise of national identity and passports. In Roman Empire and during the medieval era, people only needed to pay tolls when entering cities and tariffs when at port.
Romen citizens had ID documents so they could be identified as citizens and allowed to vote they also had other rights that where only allotted to citizens not foreigners or slaves.
If I may, can I give you some feedback on something? The Trump thing is funny, yes, but this makes the video highly politicized in nature. Especially in the States, if conservatives watch this video, you've already pissed them off within 4 minutes. You may see it as a cheeky joke, but to them it's not.
Walls won't work completely on their own - but they are invaluable in aiding border patrol and making the job easier. Laws/Government are also a key factor - Switzerland has come very effective laws when it comes to illegal immigration. As you mentioned, legal immigration is a factor - here in the UK the government has been weak and spineless when it comes to immigration - they have handed out Visas like candy and have little enforcement. One of the biggest problems is that liberals in the west encourage immigration and they use excuses like 'We need workers for our Aging population' or 'We need workers', without addressing the actual causes at home of low birth rates, terrible education amongst other issues. The locals simply don't want immigration and it is the obligation of the leaders to erect walls and barriers to prevent unwanted foreigners from entering. One detail you could include is how UK left the EU - the issue driving the leave campaign was immigration. The vote to leave came just after the Refugee Crisis of 2015 when Angela Merkel arbitrarily opened the borders - she had no right to do so, but she (and those that supported her) thought otherwise. UK did not want these migrants coming to our shores, hence the vote to leave, so ironically breaking down a wall, erected another so to speak. It is unpleasant but necessary and slowly all the spineless politicians are being voted out - look at the Netherlands. Also politicians are taking action to save their own careers. It is not the obligation of the west to help the countries at war or in poverty. It is the obligation to keep unwanted foreigners out. A great video dealing with an unpleasant topic.
walls are good, but we also have to make sure they arent welcome when they pass through them. Nothing against the people, it just that we cant make it paradise for people just because the broke through a fence. That undermines the whole system
I'm pretty sure that the border between Finland and Russia doesn't have a wall or even a fence on the entire length of it. Most of the border is wilderness. There are some parts that do have a fence.

You generally provide factual, relatively unbiased information, however, in this video, your desire for a world without borders seems obvious. Regardless, the primary reason we have more walls is simple: more people. The rise in walls coincides with the increase in population: for a couple centuries now, the world population has doubled about every 50 years, and about 50 years ago is when that figure resulted in those people spreading enough to essentially ram into each other. Our beginnings, that is, the reason we have compartmentalized races and cultures, and WHY those two are so intrinsically linked, is because separate, small groups of people evolved relatively isolated. When those peoples started branching out, different races/cultures started meeting, trading, and often clashing, which led to the first walls designed to keep people out, rather than just animals. And the reason for that boils down to one simple reason: culture. Or more specifically, cultural values. When those align, we have relative peace. When they don't, we have war. Yes, it is the few powerful that wage it, but only because the masses allow it. And they allow it, when the "enemy" is culturally incompatible with them. That is as true today as it has always been. The difference is that we are so many now, virtually every single group of people with a unified culture is slammed up against one or more others. In the EU, this is generally not much of an issue, because generally, those cultures have intermingled for so long, they are generally aligned in terms of cultural values, and thus get along. That is what allows things like the EU and passport-less travel to exist: Someone of French culture can go to Spain and generally fit in with the cultural values that exist there. The problem is when bordering cultures do NOT share the same values. While France and Spain may be mostly culturally aligned, a liberal West culture that is tolerant of free expression, particularly with women being free and wearing revealing outfits, is not going to do well next to a culture that still practices Sharia law, requiring its women to cover up head to toe, and assign them as property of their men. Those two cultures are diametrically opposed, and, as such, integration of those cultures will inevitably lead to conflict: severe conflict in the case of that specific example. This can clearly be seen in large metropolitan areas of Sweden, where ethnic Swedes have recently become the minority, which has coincided with a massive increase in violent crime. It is because the culture of Sweden is simply incompatible with the cultures of many of the migrants Sweden has accepted in the wake of several recent wars in the Middle East. And that is why the world is building walls. A world without borders is a pipe dream that only exists in a made up world where everyone gets along. The problem is, we don't. Many cultures that exist today are simply not compatible with each other. Cultures that believe in freedom and equality will never be able to live in peace with those that do not, because those two belief systems are mutually exclusive: You cannot have both. As a result, the only answer for peace is for those two cultures to remain separate from each other, hence, walls. Separation is, frankly, the only solution to keeping two incompatible cultures at peace, while still preserving the beliefs of each culture. Pouring money into the "poorer" one isn't going to make the two cultures compatible.
Thanks for the long comment. I respectfully disagree. My main thesis is walls dont stop migration so why are we building them. I highly recommend reading up on the history migration in How Migration Really Works by Hein de Haas. There have been plenty of reasons for war , just attributing this to only cultural differences is too simple. While the population of the world has been rising the number of migrants (about 3% right now) has not. Actually it has been around 3% for decades. And legal migration is vastly outnumbering refugees. The difference is that in the 1800s and early 1900s the dominant migrant groups were Europeans moving to the new world. Millions upon millions of Irish, Germans, Italians and others moved away from their countries. But they were all the same cultural groups right? Well in America in 1900 they would respectfully disagree. The biggest wars in the European continent have been fought between Catholics and Protestants. Violence and discrimination against Jews has been endemic in European history. To just keep it at the USA, the people there talk at that time about Irish and Italians as inferior races that will dilute the protesant Americans. Even the lutheran germans that kept together with their german newspapers and german traditions were seen as a group that would never integrate and were eyed very suspiciously during WW1. Now as after WWII Europe changed from net export to net import. Because the economy and living standards improved. Which lead to labour shortages and economies trying very hard to get labour. First from places like Spain and Italy, then Turkey and Morocco. Legal migrants are the vast majority, they come because there is a demand for them. The upsurge in migration to America in the last decade is mostly because there is a big unfilled demand for low to midskilled labour. When you build walls you also make seasonal migration harder. In the 90s Mexicans that used to work for a few months and move back were now forced to relocate to the states. I am not saying there are no problems. However I think these problems have more to do with economical status and opportunities than supposed incompatible cultural differences. I believe that in 40 years noone will talk about the incompatibility of these cultures.
@@ThePresentPast_ You are welcome. I am always up for a good debate. With that, I have to point out that I think you are treating the world as you would like it to be, rather than how it is. More on that in a second, as I want to address your comments in the order you made them: 1. I am honestly not entirely sure what exactly you disagree with, as I see "My main thesis is walls don't stop migration so why are we building them" juxtaposed with "When you build walls you also make seasonal migration harder" ... well which is it? Do walls work or not? The answer is yes they do, just not 100%. To answer your question directly, we build walls because they are at least partially effective, by your own admission. It doesn't have to be all or nothing. ... And I think you know that. What I am suggesting is that most of the people who make the "walls don't work" argument, are making it in bad faith. Most people who make that argument do not take issue with walls being ineffective, but rather, with them being too effective, as they usually believe in open borders or at least a more lax immigration policy. 2. Sure, war, and the reasons for it, are complex. But I still hold that most wars are waged, and allowed at least in part due to the ease of dismissing cultural values different than your own. 3. No idea where you got your 3% figure from, but more on that in a later point... 4. I never said Europe was culturally aligned in 1800-1900, nor did I suggest America was culturally aligned with the Irish or the Italians during the same period... Not sure where you got that from. If anything, their treatment due to their cultural differences simply reinforces my point. What I DID suggest is that over the last 50 years, Europe, along with most of the West, has become fairly culturally aligned, hence the existence of things like the EU. 5. "Legal migrants are the vast majority" teeing off your 3% figure... This is simply not true... In 2022, America gained 1 million new legal immigrants, coupled with 2.76 million undocumented ones... and those are just the ones we know of. So that argument is absolute nonsense. The wall is desired to wrangle that number in, as it is nearly 3 times the amount of legal migrants. As for the belief that America desires immigrants to fill low-mid skilled labor, I happen to disagree with that as well, as historically, US immigration policy has primarily targeted higher skill areas, like the nursing migration wave from the Philippines in the 70's, and refugees. American immigration policy has never specifically targeted low skill labor. America simply pays better and has more opportunity, attracting low-skill illegal migrants, who in turn are used as lower cost options, creating an unhealthy feedback loop. 6. Finally back you what I believe is your overly optimistic view of humanity: I cannot for the life of me understand how you think the cultural differences of the West vs cultures enacting Sharia law are not the major issue, particularly in Europe. Ignoring, for the moment, that you did not address this incompatibility at all, I am curious exactly how you believe no one will talk about this in 40 years? Sharia law has existed for centuries, and is based on a literal take on the black and white text of the Quran. Currently, 15 countries rule under Sharia law: Afghanistan, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Indonesia, the Maldives, Malaysia, Mauritania, Nigeria, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen, encompassing 1.22 billion people, or, 15% of the world's population. How exactly is the cultural view of women as property clashing with the exact opposite view of the West supposed to just disappear in one generation?
Bullshit, the walls are there for security and protection of the welfare state. When your neighbor is aggressive and you are, too, that not any less reason to build a wall. People built tons of walls throughout history while having the same "values". The reason they don't need them in Europe today is because both sides generally have GOOD values and are good places, not that they're "compatible".
@@herewegoagain... One thing I’ll point out about sweden is that the level of crime has actually risen proportionately to the increase of population. That stands to reason that immigrants can’t be solely blamed.
@@herewegoagain...furthermore, you’ve pointed out that difference in culture being the main reason for immigration crime whilst ignoring the fact that a lot of crime is directly linked to mental disorders, which disproportionately affect immigrants who have come from war-torn countries and suffer from psychotic and substance abuse disorders
A wise man once said that tall fences make for good neighbors. Boundaries are good and walls keep the peace. Turns out that that orange man was right because without him America's Southern border has turned into a nightmare. And you should probably learn to get used to him because roughly half of America love him they don't like him they love him and he is very likely to be around for the next 4 years. Thanks for the video it was thought-provoking
Thanks for the info and your time researching this dreadful issue. That said, the causes of immigration have origins in colonial/imperialist policies. In the Americas the fascist elites from the US have captured most foreign governments in the American global "south" (GS). Possibly with the exception of Cuba and Venezuela. US bankers' terms via the IMF and the World Bank dictate that for the sake of "balance of trade," i.e. to get their hands on US dollars, GS countries can only grow export crops that the Global North can't grow due to its climate (or export raw resources, i.e copper, lithium, oil, rare earths, etc.). If GS countries want to eat, they have to import food from US Big Ag corporations. When drought or civil unrest undermines export cash crop, or extracted resource demand plummets, locals either starve, rebel or leave (This has become a worldwide phenomenon). Since the first two end up in certain death, immigration becomes the better "option." There, geo-political finance explained in three paragraphs. Look up _Confessions of an Economic Hit Man_ or any books/RUclips videos by professor Michael Hudson. Be well.
Yeah, it’s irritating me slightly that this isn’t actually spoken about. This person only seems to consider the side of Europeans who had everything handed to them on a silver platter. I’m half Zimbabwean. If my mother hadn’t immigrated to South Africa I never would’ve existed. Or I would’ve likely grown up poor with shit healthcare and a terrible way of life. Westerners always talk about how we have to “help the third world”, but they’re more than happy to turn a blind eye and just ship away unwanted visitors, many of whom suffer in their countries precisely because of unwanted visitors (brutal murderers) from Europe. Immigrants are people. It’s not just unfortunate that we don’t often experience an equivalent way of life to the west, it’s unacceptable. Aside from that it was a really interesting video. Just could’ve done with a bit more realism.
5:04 terrorism is one of the primary reason behind fencing the Indo-pak border. Indian government is fencing the Indo-Bangladesh border to stop the illeagle immigrants which are changing the demographics of the Eastern and North-eastern states, initially demographics are changing, finally it will lead to political instability in future. The reason is very similar behind fencing the Indo-Bangladesh border is similar to europe why it fanced its borders. Secondary reason is terrorism. For example Indo-Baruma border is open border, because of which violence was seen in the state of Manipur. This is why Indian government is fancing all the borders.
Immigration is a complicated problem to say the least. I've long thought that a decrease in legal immigration difficulty along side an increase in the consequences toward illegal immigration may assist to some extent but that doesn't really address the often dire needs of folks we need to quickly leave their country of origin. But immigration often leave the country the folks are leaving worse off (unless they are workers who send remittances back to their families). The brain drain is really hampering developing countries from well... developing: those who are most likely to leave are wealthier and better educated which are exactly the kinds of people a country needs to develop. Then you have the human trafficking and other illicit activities that frequently accompany illegal migration. Let alone terrorists and foreign powers sending spys and such. You can look at what China is doing to S. Korea: they are sending millions of people over to S. Korea to effectively colonize certain areas to increase the voting base: playing the long game to change the political environment to one they can more easily manipulate.
Sorry but saying life in eastern germany wasn't that bad sounds really weird to me. I'm german living in western germany without direct relatives from eastern germany, but the migration that happened afterwards and the horrific living standards are things you hear about all the time. There is a reason why people died trying to cross the wall and why today there's an incredible amount of difference in living standards between east and west.
Well firstly he's putting the Berlin wall in a context of today's migration - citizens of DDR didn't have to flee starvation, war, lack of basic services like water and health system. Secondly the living standard in DDR was relatively high in the cathegories mentioned in the video (I'm not talking about access to western consumer goods or western style liberal democracy of course). Thirdly - the things You hear don't have to be true, there was a lot of propaganda back in the day. Just an anecdote - my grandmother visited her family in west germany in the 70's, and her relatives tried to give her their second hand clothes after hearing of the dire poverty in the east; my grandma's reaction was throwing the charity at their feet, saying she can get better clothes with her own means (and no, she was not in the party, she was a technician in a factory)
@@moustachu100You're every bit as bad as the holocaust deniers. It's a FACT that the DDR build walls to keep people IN. And it's a FACT that they shot on people trying to flee. How much more can a political ideology possibly fail than people having to be imprisoned in the country?
I'm posting this comment before I've watched your video. The reason being I feel the walls are going up more readily now because of climate change and access to resources and arable land and more livable places. I almost can't go outside because of the increase in pollen from trees. I know this is anecdotal and just my opinion but that's what I see from my perspective. NowI'm going to go watch the video to see if I'm close.

I'm trying to cope with the fact that a guarded border with Bangladesh has curbed human migration, but not cow trafficking 😅

More Walls please!

More on that in a second, as I want to address your comments in the order you made them:
Trump is a criminal and a patsy for Putin. Half of Americans don't trust or like him.
Since the first two end up in certain death, immigration becomes the better "option."
There, geo-political finance explained in three paragraphs.
Yes, we need walls
You forgot the Great wall in China, Hadrians Wall, Citadels such as the Vatican
5:04 terrorism is one of the primary reason behind fencing the Indo-pak border. Indian government is fencing the Indo-Bangladesh border to stop the illeagle immigrants which are changing the demographics of the Eastern and North-eastern states, initially demographics are changing, finally it will lead to political instability in future. The reason is very similar behind fencing the Indo-Bangladesh border is similar to europe why it fanced its borders. Secondary reason is terrorism.
For example Indo-Baruma border is open border, because of which violence was seen in the state of Manipur. This is why Indian government is fancing all the borders.
false,Indians are facist like modi
10:49. Of course, now makes sense in the special interests.
Walls are needed....no walls no county
"Her home town was far away in some dirty migrant country". Excuse me, what?? This is the actual text of the add in this video! (2:12)
I don’t think there are walls along the entire deserts of Uzbekistan. I couldn’t find this in the sources. Do you have a source for the map?
Can anyone tell me the instrumental at 3:12 ?
Walls or fences?
Nah, didn’t see my garden wall anywhere. Click bait!
Australia has a dingo fence?
guess what,, my house has walls and fence.
Another excellent video. Everyone talks about the pull factors of migration and refugees, not enough is looked at the pus factors.
The West could go back to occupying those countries. Is that what you want? Sending money to the Eritrean government will 100% make things worse.
I can't believe you forgot the largest continued borders on earth in Morocco
South America and Oceania seeing this: 😎👍
As a south american, we probably need some walls too, venezuelan inmigrants are flowing in ever single countryu like crazy.
5.16 what do you mean "Real Country"? So Malta is not?! Not very factual of you. If anything I would say large country or over a certain population.
Cope and seethe maltapiller
Nice job
This is click bait
Good Video, Wall Fetish Boy!!!

Calling another country a dirty migrant country just for the sake of an ad doesnt seem judicious... You never know when your country will turn out to be one like that... Nothing surpasses the test of time, so keep arrogance aside and be more considerate...
Bro he was being sarcastic
It's a joke... About the orange man...
