I stand by the belief that games should be available both digitally and physically, as each one suits different people and fits different lifestyles. I grew up preferring physical games and loving my collection, but have gone all-digital (unless I simply want to try a game) for the following reasons: 1. Portability - I travel a lot, and my work involves me constantly staying at other peoples' homes (pet sitting). Because of this, digital gaming makes it so that no matter where I go, I will have my entire gaming library with me and I don't have to worry about carrying a giant portfolio of physical media. 2. Convenience - There are less steps between me buying and playing the video game. No having to switch discs/cartridges around. I can be out of the house, buy a game using my phone, have it start downloading remotely, and then when I get home it is ready to play. With physical games (especially modern disc-based games), once I pick the game up, there are more steps and time involved between the purchase and actually playing it. Also with new releases, I can have the game downloaded already before it is even released, then play it immediately. 3. Sharing - I can add someone as a family member or put my account on system and they now have access to literally EVERY game I own on those systems and I don't have to worry about whether or not they will lose my game somehow. 4. Minimalism - I don't like clutter, and I don't want to own a lot of physical stuff in general. The more I own, the more time/money I have to spend on upkeep/cleaning stuff, and the more time I have to spend working in order to afford the space to store the stuff as well. 5. Remote play - If I am playing my systems remotely via Steam Deck or phone, I have access to all of my downloaded games. I am not locked to just the one disc that is in my system.
I'm somewhat split. I would take a physical version preferably however I can be an impatient person. For instance when metroid prime remastered dropped I felt I needed to play it right then so I opted for the digital. Digital definitely has its merit but yeah its nice to have an actual version to have on the shelf. I did pre-order zelda physical though!
I have more server problems with physical than I do with my digital games, actually I haven't ever had a server problem with my digital games. I think people just like to be able to hold and look at the game, or able to get a couple of bucks for if you need. But problem wise, I'd say physical is the one that has more problems, or can be scratched, broken, or lost.
Yep. That is a fair and good agruement. Both really have upsides, and people tend not to think about the positive of one of the other. I've experienced losing games that are digital, but you can also lose games that are physical. Think about the size of the switch games. The fact that you have the option to sell them is nice and probably the biggest thing for physical. You nailed it on all points here. Thanks for watching, and we appreciate your comment.
i agree with convenient but here in the uk i always find physical cheaper on average than digital esspecially for preorders physical games tend to depresiate faster also and i find used games usually as cheap as they are in digital sales i payed £54.99 to preorder ff16 physicly its currently £64.99 digitally you cant get it even cheaper than i preored it physicly at the moment
All my life I’ve been Team Physical, I could never get into the Digital lifestyle because of bad internet. I had the PS5 digital which made things worse in terms of downloading games, so I had to limit the amount of games I played (which sucked) Then last year I was finally able to get ACTUAL high speed internet and never looked back 😂. Despite being Team Digital now, Team Physical will always be for life.
I grew up with terrible internet as well! I finally got good internet about 3 years ago when i moved and it has been a huge difference! I remember back when fortnite came out and all my friends asked me to play with them. i tried to download it on my PS4 and it said it was going to take 32 days to download! And that's not even that big of a game... so thats how bad my internet was!
I would mostly get physical in sports games since it releases everyyear so you can get rid or sell them but depends but most open world single player I tend to go digital if Im in a rush to play them
I only buy digital if the game is only available that way (indie games). The main drawback is for remoteplay because you are not there to put the disc in.
I’m mostly the same! One of the only games I’ve ever bought digitally that I didn’t actually have to was hogwarts legacy, simply because the digital version was releasing 5 days earlier than the disc version and we had planned to make some videos on it. In the long run we didn’t even make the videos.
I don't understand digital games on PS, like if I switch PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5 can I still re- download the games that I bought digitally. And the progress will be saved, also If I download a game in an account can the other profiles on the same console play it. Please answer
Team physical but there's no guarantee they will always work. Disc erosion and if the online store shutdown good luck for games like Days Gone, CyberPunk that are completely broken without that digital downloaded fix
thats true if the game gets removed no patches for anyone but if your account gets hacked or banned ect no patches or game for digital only as physical games are not tied to an account and patches are tied to the game not the account ive had digital single player games lock stopping me from playing when psn has gone down and ive had to wait for servers to come back up to restore my licences ive never had that with physical the only digital games which are better than physical in my oppinion are pirated and even then it costs more to store them
i went to walmart today and they had no PS4 or PS5 games at all and they have fair amount of switch and xbox games and they had good amount of dvds but some empty spots to which is so sad
I'm about *OWNERSHIP* as you can also have DRM-Free digital. The argument ought to be broadly about ownership. You are fighting a losing battle if you only just focus on physical media as the world moves to digital.
I honestly think it all depends on the player/gamer age. New generations I think will tend to go digital, while older generations wil tend to go physical.
Digital for me: 1) If you have kids, they will most likely at some point get a hold of your physical games and mess up the artwork. 2) Physical games are just keys for downloading the digital version of the game 3) Optical drives are always the first thing to break in a console. I'll be honest though, if I didn't have kids and wasn't married, I'd buy the $200 collector's edition for every game and have that sh** displayed 24/7.
digital games are still tied to an account that can be discontinued removing your access due to licencing issues ect yes some disks are just codes but most have the base game on the disk which downloads off it and the disk is your authentication not a server ive had digital games i purchased become locked when psn has gone down and had to wait for servers to come back up to play it even though its not an online game thats never happend to a physical game i have purchased because physical games are not tied to accounts
@@spaceycakey1987 I agree I prefer physical games, most of mine are physical. It's just difficult when you have a family. My kid recently got a hold of like 4 games and lost the disc for 2 of them.
Definitely physical. Digital can be taken from you whenever they want. For example, Final Fantasy 7 First Soldier, Rogue Company, Apex Mobile, Fire Emblem Fates, Battlefield Mobile, The original GTA San Andreas, GTA3, GTA Vice City, and many more. Wont be long before Redfall shuts down. How much money do you think players spent on these games that the developers just stole from them? Very Shady. I've back up all my physical games so I will never be forced to buy the same game twice.
@Loso Banks Dude in the youtube search bar type in "SomeOrdinaryGamer game preservation". If you leave yourself open to be taken advantage of, you will be. Just because you made a video about how you prefer digital an hour ago, doesn't mean you need to find people to argue with about it.
I think people who buy all digital are nuts. If we were given a DRM free file we can back up to a USB stick and it will work on any PlayStation console forever then I would go digital but unfortunately they just put tons of DRM on them and charge full price. If you want hope that the console will be hacked someday then buy PlayStation and stay clear of Xbox. They won't even let you create a user without your console talk to the server.
I agree. I should have mentioned in the video that it would make sense if they could allow the games you play disc games digitally as long as the disc is inserted every two weeks or something
I was all physical until recently. I’m selling everything when I see digital sales. Physical is just a drag. You can scratch or lose the disc. It also takes space and you need to change the disc. Disc drives can also become bad. My Xbox one X wouldn’t install some games for some reason. Digital is just so much better. Disc made sense when the game was on disc. But nowadays you have huge updates anyway. And you need to install the game anyway.
I understand your argument, but I have a solution for your scratched games. You can back them up on your computer and play them via emulator. This is perfectly legal to do. That way you can put your games away and not have to take them in and out of your systems and ware them out. If you'd like some help learning how to do these things let me know, I can help, and theirs a huge community dedicated to the preservation of games. Check it out
Digital cause I embrace since 2015 the future I have got rid of clutter and hoarding of games and other physical media by 2030 this will be the norm if you don't want any part of it maybe get a new hobby.😏

I tend to double dip on both depending on how much I like the game, mainly so I can play without having to pop the disc in every time.
Exactly I will only buy physically if I really really like it other then that I prefer digital
I'm with Jorgan. Team Physical all the way!

I'm both because I grew up in the 90's and physical games are awesome. But digital games can be so much cheaper and more convenient.
