Ascidia mentula is a species of solitary tunicate. It is found in the north east Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean Sea and Black Sea. It occurs round the coasts of Britain but is seldom seen on the east coast of England or Scotland. Ascidia mentula has a tough leathery envelope or tunic composed partly of cellulose. The translucent tunic encloses a fluid-filled body with irregular bulges and two unmistakable siphons.

Ascidia mentula è un organismo tunicato appartenente alla famiglia Ascidiidae. Può raggiungere circa i 20 cm. di lunghezza, ma le sue dimensioni variano notevolmente. Il corpo, dotato di due sifoni, ricorda la forma di un sacco ed ha una consistenza piuttosto dura. Il colore, così come le dimensioni, è molto variabile. La sua alimentazione è costituita da particelle organiche che vengono risucchiate attraverso il sifone boccale.
