Remember when James O'Brien was blaming Andrew Tate for the decline in young boys? Anybody who lives in a council estate knows exactly why young men are in the mess they are. Drill music and influence from rappers and such is one, but the main reason is abscent fathers.
We (society) need to do more to support the family unit, but also solo parents. They have a very tough time of it. (I know from experience.) Oh - you know I love you - but it's "absent". "Abscent" is a charity for people who have lost their sense of smell. 🙂
Austerity and associated policies(2010-2020) disproportionately affected people living in the most deprived areas, with deprived areas in the north of England and London being the hardest hit. Have those policies been substantially reversed or retracted in recent years?
There is way more to this than drill music… it’s always been the same, blame music for social issues, it happened in the 60,s, 70’s etc etc. It’s more complicated than the current music scene. Education, parenting, over privilege, the division between rich and poor etc etc.. just my thoughts / experience 💚
Nope. I agree focus on the underlying reasons but until billionaires don’t exist that’s never going to happen. Musk is busy arguing over faking his skills in video games, not trying to implement any actual beneficial change for humanity. And still is far different from 90’s rap. Drill talks about murders actually done, then mocks the opps. The music and culture definitely leads to murders, it’s just one part of the problem.
We've always had poor people in this country. We've had far higher levels of extreme poverty historically. Our youth were not stabbing each other to death in such numbers like they are today. British culture of pugilism and settling things with your fists has been replaced with knife culture.
Let's focus on addressing real societal problems and not scapegoat clichéd punching bags. Rap, drill, punk, and other genres have consistently reflected the issues plaguing our society, rather than being the root causes themselves
