The mnemonics does help! After learning the hiragana, I made a table on my notebook. In one column there is the hiragana, on the second column I write the mnemonics that Risa made on the video. If I want to know how to write the katakana sa, for example, I look it up for the hiragana sa, which I recognize, and I see that the mnemonic is "saddle". It helps me visualize the katakana easier that way, without showing me the charater (it is a little bit harder but makes the learning faster)

I learned hiragana with this channel and I tried to use a different method to learn katakana but I swear I cant remember unless I use Risa's method of comparing a kana to a chicken or a telephone pole or a totem pole. That helps me remember so much.
oh wait katakana isn't even close to enough, you need kanji, oh you've covered some of the basic kanji's? Haha now you've got to learn the grammar, sentence structure, vocabulary, have fun! :D
When you're learning a language like Spanish or German, you already know the writing system (more or less), thousands of cognates, most of the grammar structures, and can easily make sense of the cultural quirks. And those languages still take many hundreds of hours to learn. With Japanese, you have none of those advantages going in. It is among the most foreign of foreign languages for English speakers. Most of us will never reach anything approaching fluency because we will have become discouraged long before that point (if we were ever really putting in the hours in the first place). Good luck to us all -- we're going to need it.
Guy Withaname ill do my best,i mean this was a discouraging speech you got,but it also would prove that im fine to continue and if i dont lose my will ill do it.. also i have my own reasons to learn it so yeah. Kambare omaera..!

I'm Brazilian but I'm also fluent in English. That's why I'm able to understand this video. And I must say your videos are the best that I've found on RUclips teaching Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji. They have helped me a lot and I feel more confident to improve my Japanese studies. Thank you so much!
E aí, como está seu progresso depois de 1 ano? Comecei agora, aprendi hiragana rapidinho com esse vídeo e vou começar katakana, e aí quando aprender os dois poderei partir pra aprender a língua.
Wow. Just wow. I'm only like 5 minutes in this hour long video and I'm already thoroughly engaged and learning these faster than in duolingo. You're absolutely amazing. It's a shame I'm at work and on a 15 minute break and can't stick around for the whole thing because I'd absolutely use you as a guide for learning the second Japanese alphabet. And I might go watch the hiragana video too, if there is one, to see if theres any other easier ways to remember things that I didn't think of.
I use this videos to learn the symbols and then just practice in duolingo, I learned hiragana completely in 3 days that way and I don't even waste lots of time, this was time I use for scrolling insta xD
Thank you Risa!! I personally learnt to write both alphabets before I came here and these videos make me feel like I'm putting the finals stones of what I learnt, it's really helpful, ありがとうございます、りさせんせい!

I'm still amazed by how the automatic subtitles feature has improved, not to be offensive or anything but it literally has every word right even when spoken with Japanese accent
Risa said this was the most fun way to learn kana. At first I was skeptical, but she was right indeed! Great lectures, I learned a lot! I mastered hiragana in just 3 days and I am on my mission to master katakana now!
the one I started to remember easily whist in Japan was 'RA'. it was part of the word 'Ramen' on many restaurants and I began to think of it as a ramen bowl with a chop stick above it :D
Finally finished with this video😭😭 Took 2-3 days. Just as long as it took me to learn hiragana. I am fairly surprised at how quickly I understood, honestly thought it would take a month but it was basically a week to know all the syllables. Now all I gotta do is memorize/understand, learn new words and pronounce the words as close to a native as possible. Then onto the infamous kanji. For those still going through the process of learning, がんばっで! Do your best and remember you don’t learn something going new without consistency and understanding!
Damn, this was actually easier than I thought. It took me like 4 days to learn Hiragana, and here you go teaching me in an hour! This really helped, thanks!

oh wait katakana isn't even close to enough, you need kanji, oh you've covered some of the basic kanji's? Haha now you've got to learn the grammar, sentence structure, vocabulary, have fun! :D
Mythical nice thing about Japanese though is that it’s all just memorization for the most part and it’s laid out for you
When you're learning a language like Spanish or German, you already know the writing system (more or less), thousands of cognates, most of the grammar structures, and can easily make sense of the cultural quirks.
