Placebo, meaning in gen. - "A placebo is used in clinical trials to test the effectiveness of treatments and is most often used in drug studies. For instance, people in one group get the tested drug, while the others receive a fake drug, or placebo, that they think is the real thing."
About Stray Kids's song 'Placebo' - Here, 'Placebo' describes a person’s internal dilemma as they realized the methods they once used to console themselves from their problems now, and even before now, has no effect at all in consoling them. Realizing what it took to get somewhere in life they worked harder and harder, yet their struggles would always diminish what they have accomplished.
Wishing for a solution is Placebo. Hence the 'Placebo Effect'.
The pill that yet has no effect, is greatly favored as the person hope to be deceived. Decided by a reality that may not be true, but yet is bearable for themselves to uphold and live in without the struggles and internal sufferings that they face now.
This song is very heavy on metaphors (+lyrics) and very 'light and bouncy' in its beats, thus it gives us a nice contrast.
