      Uday Kumar Adusumilli We do not have good experience with the silicone socks in the past, so we do not plan it now. They tend to fall off and ruin prints more often, then they help in some way. The heater is plenty powerful to not dip in temperature when the print cooling fan engages.

    I just have to say in regards to josef prusa's comment. "If you switch to our printer from another brand you will truly appreciate our printers" I can attest to that. I started with 2 flsun printers which were cheap but they worked and I learned alot. Especially with almost no customer support. I sold them and "upgraded" or so I thought to 2 ender 3's. After many upgrades and failed prints I boxed them up and finally got to buy what was a dream printer for me the mk3s. Then the mmu2s and another mk3s and now the mini is preordered!
    I just have to say thanks to Tom for a great interview. I always love to see josef speak of his creations. He is very passionate about what he does and deeply cares for the longevity of his company, his employees, and his customers.

      Yep, this is why I likely will go for Prusa in the near future too. I started the hobby with an Ender-2 and had a lot of theory in my mind already from all these great channels, I immediately recognized the bad stuff and started replacing it, then modding everything and now I have an "Ender" which is very close to this new Prusa Mini, funny enough (total cost is close to 450 Euro haha). I now love it, I learned a ton and am now comfortable to buy any other printer as I know how to tackle stuff. Prusa seems the most logical as the community and support are unmatched.

    • @dionhouston
      @dionhouston 5 лет назад +1

      @@VincentGroenewold I went both directions - I started with an MP Select Mini which I tore apart, replaced almost every single thing on it, and learned a lot about 3D printing. I then went with the MK2S which I love, awesome awesome printer. I then deployed and decided not to take my printer with me, so ended up buying an Ender 3 overseas. Not a bad printer at all, and I did mod it, but now it's not printing right. I'll be back to my Prusa when it comes in tomorrow. Nothing wrong with lower cost printers - they can still make great prints, but the quality level is just SO much higher with the Prusas...

    A quick note on the printer flex concerns, look at bike technology. Fox and rock shox forks are phenomenal but cannondale's lefty forks are known for their performance through stiffness. Lefty forks are single sided fork plus therefore the axel is only supported on 1 side. If they can do that with a bike fork, or should be a piece of cake with a printer

    Please stop constantly saying you need to test things in the interview. He’s just trying to present the new product and it makes the interview really uncomfortable. Nobody is going to use your commentary here as buying advice, and you don’t need to constantly let us know that what he’s claiming is publicly untested. Concluding the interview you can summarize with how impressive all the new things will be if they live up to what he says, and how you can’t wait to get one to test out. That sounds a lot more friendly and positive than “ok but I don’t know how it performs I’m going to have to test that” after he presents every feature.

I've ended up using it myself in custom printer designs but to add extra protection, I give the casing a deep, sculpted socket which keys to the housing of the male plug, to make it impossible to mis-power. Also retrofitted this to my Replicator 2 farm.

    When Thomas makes direct eye contact with the camera, I always feel like a ZOOM and the sound "bwomp-bwhaaaah" should play. Like Benny Hill or something. LOL!
    I've noticed him making direct eye contact with the camera on several interviews...not sure if he's even doing it on purpose.
    Thomas, we get it - you don't want to be considered a shill. But we know you're not (though in your older videos, I felt like you appeared start-struck by Josef's presence).
    All that aside, I was happy to see you grilling Josef a bit. This new printer seems 100% unnecessary, and again find myself saying "JUST GET AN ENDER3 AND BE DONE WITH IT".

I'll have to make do with my tiny little Primacreator P120 in the meantime. @@hakont.4960 Ooof smashing on floor is not recommended, there's probably someone with more patience or intuition out there who'd really appreciate a cheap starting point to fix it up, potentially reconstructing most of it in the process - because yeah cursed machines where everything goes wrong just happen.
      The number one Creality issue should be varying degree of underextrusion that sets in after a few months (regardless of whether that's months of use or months of sitting in a warehouse box), and that's just extruder preload. I kinda like Geeetech because at least their electronics isn't complete and utter junk, but they suffer from the same exact issue, it's eerie how these companies copy each others' engineering mishaps. Plus there are Bowden issues and wheel issues, if you're not lucky, on either of them - Creality more Bowden, Geeetech more wheels.

      I'm not surprised, my first printer was a Creality CR-20 Pro and it was a nightmare to deal with. My current printer, a Primacreator P120 has been childs play in comparison, it seems like Creality printers have quite varying quality. My little Primacreator printer is built like a tank compared to the CR-20, so it seems like Creality tend to cut too much cost where it counts. I ordered a Prusa Mini yesterday actually, it should be a good successor for my P120, it's very reliable but too small and basic in the long run.

  • @EPeltzer
    @EPeltzer 5 лет назад

    Just ordered a Mini, my first 3D printer (been using a shared old MakerBot gen5 ugh.) Makes total sense to me, so many of the things I see being printed are fairly small. Even the larger printers . . . only have one print head right? So yes a lot of people might be better off with two small printers than one big one especially when half the price - you can put two print heads to work at once. Then when I'm ready I may buy a larger fancier printer . . . but probably still get a lot of use out of the Mini, and be able to print 2 things at once. Would love a Mk 3 of course but the price . . .
    Not really concerned about the single upright column. There is very little stress on an extruder head. Not like it's a CNC router or something. I get the feeling that Prusa designs things with the right ethos: all the things you really need, none of the things you don't.

    Will you be able to review the Prusa Mini anytime soon? I just ordered one as my first home 3D printer and there's a lot about this printer's limits and capabilities that I'm puzzled by. First off, it doesn't advertise that it can print nylon, yet it can reach 280deg C, which should be enough to print nylon. Normally printing nylon would require an all-metal hotend, but in your interview with Joseph Prusa, he said that the point where the end of the PTFE tube contacts the heat block, the temperature is only 160deg C, so nowhere near melting or deforming the PTFE tube. So if I'm not mistaken, the only thing holding this printer back from printing nylon should be the brass nozzle, which can be easily swapped for a hardened nozzle. Am I wrong?

      There are very few 16 bit microcontrollers on the market (only MSP430 comes to my mind), but a lot of competition on 32 bit ARM, resulting in chip prices lower than what you pay for an 8 bit AVR. There is no reason whatsoever to not use a 32 bit microcontroller. This is not the PC market! Many of your everyday devices like washing machines, microwaves, fridges,... are powered by 32 bit ARM nowadays and this huge volume is why the controllers are so cheap.

That's the price where you pay for quality, but not the things you don't need for a fully (but not excessively) featured, robust, direct-extruding printer. Built-in ethernet control is the only improvement I'd really need over my MK3. That and maybe 16 points for mesh bed leveling. I haven't wished for anything else really.

      I have a simple algorithm in a post-processing script which can find the arcs in the point-to-point geometry of a single layer and convert those to G2/G3, and I will be pushing that out to the open source slicers after some more testing. That way you can keep using STL but get the benefit of perfect arcs and circles.

      As someone who programed a model 40 thermwood cnc manually for years it does not matter what you use on the top end, to make the part. Lines, curves or poly-triangles, the step motors are digital and in the end this is what dictates the output of and program to run the machine. G-code is output to tell the motors to turn on and off in a set pattern to move. The stepper motors degree of step is what sets the resolution of the part. The rest of the g-code of course is used to change tools and other things. G-code will never go away, you can call it by a different name but all it's just the last program to communicate with the hardware. If they change the top end it's just to make more for modeling or make smaller files. Sometimes!
