Back in 1972, I lived on the edge of the Berrien Hills golf course in Benton Harbor Michigan. And on that golf course are 2 huge pine trees just below a hill. I took my cassette player/recorder with fresh batteries, a brand new 2 hour tape and put it in a plastic bag. I climbed 30 feet up in to one of those pine trees and mounted my tape recorder on a branch with garbage bag ties. Then positioned the external microphone to face down wind. A huge spring rainstorm was on it's way. I stayed in the tree until the rain began coming down in big fat drops, hit the record and play buttons, then climbed down. 60 minutes later I was back in the tree flipping the cassette tape over to side two. We had one of the finest rainstorms on that day and I still have it on tape. The best part is the sound of the wind whistling through the pine boughs and the sheets of rain hitting the ground 30 feet down below.
Sounds like a real special recording! I too have put some effort into rain recordings, and enjoy that. I like to use them in my music production sometimes. l live in central Michigan. Blessings to you, keep on enjoying recordings!
