spot on. if you cancel on a rider, definitely turn the app off until you are far enough away to know you won't get that same rider, otherwise you are for damn sure getting a 1 star rating cause they'll be pissed you cancelled and they got charged the cancellation fee
This is probably why so many people make so little with Uber. They don't follow the rules, too nice to people, waste time, etc, etc, etc...time is money! Your screwing yourself, this is no cab with a clock time racking up cash, so it's the Uber driver who is actually ripping themselves off by being so kind to these idiots that don't want to be ready for their rides.
910AM Superstation Funnies I agree . . . . Cancelation or good karma? Hmm you do the math. I think it's bullshit people even do this crap. You pieces of shit are basically the dude in the back hiding until closing time. Lazy, no good, bad for business chumps!!! I hope Uber and Lyft start cracking down on these goofs!!!
The latest version of the app (at least in my area, the inland northwest) has a count down timer. I give them a call @ 4 minutes, and will remind them to re-request when they're actually ready to go.. This is especially important during bar rush and all surges, as you want to maximize your time driving. Normally I have no problem with taking one or two passengers through a fast drive thru, but not during a big surge or bar rush. I even put it on my headrest sign.. It says "In fairness to all passengers, please don't ask me to go through any fast food place between the hours of 1:30 and 3am, also please limit your food requests to two persons and try to call ahead with your order." I also have a second sign saying: " In fairness to the next passenger, no eating is allowed during this ride. Also please limit drinking to water only." I also provide 1/2 liter bottles of water free to all passengers, and always have barf bags, mints (no gum) a flashlight and a small bottle of Febreeze handy. I've had too many accidents, especially when dealing with intoxicated people and food. Even the best of them can't help but sneak in a few fries, and the worst ones just tuck in no matter what you say. Nobody can afford to be stopping and cleaning up after every passenger, and salt, grease and ketchup can damage even leather upholstery.
Let me give a slightly different perspective. When I arrive, i always try to give a call or text when I drive Uber. Almost every time when I have to call a rider, the ride is usually more than the cancellation fee. Sometimes, significantly more. I'd rather have 10, 15 or at times 30 dollars for making that call than $4 for cancelling. Now after calling if they don't come out, then I need to move on and make more money and they need to get the message that we can't wait around all damn day. But I'm going to try to get that money first. :-)
all depends on the market you are working. If you are in one of the low per mile areas but are constantly receiving ride requests then work the cancellation If you are in an area that is flooded with drivers but no passengers wait a little longer to cancel.
Yes AND in some markets like mine, the minimum ride payout is $3.00 and the cancellation fee is $3.75. So if I'm in the campus area where most rides are minimum rides, it's actually much more profitable to get the cancellation fee. Plus, once you cancel and collect your $3.75, you don't even have to provide a ride and you're available for another ride right away. If I'm out in the suburbs, I'll try a lot harder to get the ride by calling and texting, because this way I'm likely to get a ride closer into the center of the city.
Good point Leon, but it really depends where you are driving. For example, I drive often in Hollywood area where it's often to give very short 5-minute rides so those tend to be less than $5 cancellation fee. So in those areas, you make more money cancelling than waiting for passengers. So, it really depends where you drive.
good tip. another thing to note is that you get more money for cancellations with lyft. lyft gives you the whole $5 fee to compensate you for your time and effort. uber takes $1 leaving you with$4. also, if you cancel and get the same request, you do not have to accept. that way you don't have to deal with a pissed off rider.
LOL, you're the man, Neither Uber & Lyft will pay the drivers traveling distance to pick up a passenger. What I mean by this is, a driver can be requested 15 miles away for pick-up, and that passenger may need a ride down the road or to the store & back home thus, the whole trip pays $3-4 bucks. That driver has driven 15 miles (one-way) and used ¾ of a gallon of fuel, then the driver used another ¾ of a gallon of gas to get back to his destination. If my math served me correct, 1.5 total gallons of fuel was used to pick-up that passenger. Overall, the driver has driven a total of 30 miles for $3-4 bucks. If you figure the gas cost $3.45 per gallon; let assumed the driver gets 25 miles per gallon, the ride has become free. If the driver car gets less than 25 miles per gallon the driver loses more money.
With Lyft I call when I get to the gate or house and they aren't outside. I'm lightweight inching my car down the street at 4 mins of waiting for a rider that I already called to come out. I sometimes make a U-turn and see how quick they come out, it's rude to make someone wait 5 mins just because you can. Also in the comment section always write that you were forced to cancel if you happen to get the same rider, at least you have an explanation for that 1 star that you're sure to get.
Uber pool you only have to wait for 2 minutes and the app does the count down for the driver and at the end the app will tell you to cancel itself, but if I am starting my shift I call or text the rider because the extra wait could be worthy
amen. Somebody who is half decent and wants a ride is going to help you get to them. The ones you make you wait and don't help at all, all I have to say is f*** them
With Uber I document everything. when uber call, what time I picked rider up, rider name, what time I drop rider off and if they cancelled what time that they cancelled.
Looks like everyone is missing the point. The cancellation policy most often works against the driver even when drivers play by the rule. Often times, there is dispute over it and you must contact support to get reimbursed for it. The app seems to do a lousy job keeping track of it and deciding whether it is warranted. More importantly, cancellations are the crux of low rating and safety concerns because the rider who is paired again with the same driver is too upset and backfired at the driver. Does Lyft or Uber care about the driver’s safety? It does not look like it. On the other hand, most driver violations are categorized as safety issues that result in driver account deactivations. Well, there is ample evidence that both Uber and Lyft may charge passengers cancellation fees that they never reimburse the driver for. This happens more often with Lyft Line as Lyft would argue that drivers are compensated for the mileage and time driving to the customer who did the cancellation. The amount of compensation is usually less than the cancellation fee. Well, the practices is predatory since Lyft makes money off the cancellation, which the driver should be paid. Cancellation fees are the sole property of the driver; therefore, any cancellation fees taken from the passenger yet not paid back to the driver constitute unfair competition and unjust enrichment. Legal loopholes exist that Lyft and Uber would not hesitate to employ to get away with the practice. Drivers, beware of lack of transparency, which allows Lyft and Uber to control the records of the transaction, even delete them out to destroy evidence against the companies!
Ugh passengers that live in apartments kill me. Out of all my apartment and gated community pickups I've had one actually text me the gate code and building # smh so irritating!
Treat it like a 40 hour customer service job where you ge to cruise around, listen to music, and don't have to worry about the weather (assuming you have AC and heat in your car) and youre gold. As Terry said compare it to your last 40 hour job and it aint bad. It has its costs and in the end game you wont make a ton of money but its a cool job for sure.
So if an old lady on crutches is unable to get into your vehicle within five minutes, but she's limping along on the sidewalk towards your vehicle, out of breath, careful not to slip and fall in winter conditions, taking some time but doing her honest to goodness best, will you simply cancel and leave her standing there as soon as five minutes runs out instead of helping and giving a little extra time?
You said with Lyft you can see where their going, how do you find that out? I've been driving for Lyft for a week and didn't know anything about that. You have a cool channel. I subscribed. :-)
In slc I don’t cancel often. I always text I’m there. I’ve found that here the ride is more pay than the cancel. Cuz canceling NETS me 3 freekin dollars. ANY ride gets me more than that. One in 10 rides is short enough for min fare to kick in. So yea. That’s how I see it. Sometimes in damn glad I waited OVER 5 mins cuz the person when a long ass way.
lyft is really good for when u accept a call the GPS goes right 2 work so you don't know where it going. if u take a min after receiving the call and push on the person's info, it will give you an address but not this morning. I was at the mercy of the GPS that wanted me to make a turn where I couldn't so as I went to turn around even though o didn't have the persons address, they cancelled. lyft always make me out to b an idiot on some of these calls when I know the area. so I don't have an address. how do they know it's not a set up. I'm the only one here with a brand new Lexus that I dont get paid for but they think they know where their sending me even though I will go into the districts that are known for robbing and killing the pizza drivers but let me know where I'm going so at least somebody can find my body. I may go in the back way to the places to keep my ass safe. yesterday a woman wants picked up from a big mall but doesn't say where she is. of course I followed the GPS and lo and behold, she was at another location. if you put in I'm at the mall, why couldn't she say she was in front of the cheese cake factory? now, I have 2 go another 1/2 mile to get to her. her damn kids were bad. I would b so grateful to use our services but people really feel like if they just give u 2 cents they should get the royal treatment. going just on uber today. hope it's better, probably not but tired of being the goofy lady in the Lexus that doesn't know where shes going but have no idea what happened. oh, and I do have water, pop etc. but only if the call comes in premiere. u give more I'll do a little more. i thought we were here 2 make money. i dont want anymore friends. haaaaaaaaaa. if this doesn't work out today, I'll do the doordash and if not that, i come up with something else. geesh. good driving today guys. people really dont know how hard it is to get to them some days.
I tell them that it's Uber's policy to cancel after waiting five minutes and "Just call when you are actually ready." No tip = No Five Stars. It's only fair to the people who tip and no worries, these people will still get a ride from Uber or Lyft. With Lyft you can call the person when it gets close to the five minutes and hang-up when they answer. I'm not babying their lame ass behavior.
Exile Stones , I automatically give 3 stars to anyone who doesn't tip, except when Surge prices are really high. I don't ever want them in my car again. It's not right to not tip and I believe Uber deliberately fosters a culture of not tipping. I don't have the same process on Lyft, but because tips are not discouraged, but they are pushed on the riders. Lyft tells you to tip me before you rate me. I think it's very important for all Uber drivers to follow suit and leave these cheap assholes without a ride and a low rating. I won't pick up below 4.6 and I may not even go that low. It's great that we're in a work world where we can punish bad customers and we need to take advantage of it.
ssteelers a tip should be earned. A conversation at least. Can’t expect to be tipped just cuz you gave them a ride dude. Didn’t help with their bags to the airport? Dont expect a tip. Im a driver btw.
Remy Martin To get a tip should the driver also do their taxes for them? Maybe also walk their dog and take out their trash? A tip shows gratitude and customers will come up with any reason under the sun not to tip. It's up to the customer whether or not they want to show gratitude.
Great job. Im a newbie, 1st week. I had 2 dudes smelling like weed. Do I say something, and risk low rating? I offer sm water and candy- lame? Do you strive for a 5*? Also people can't tip at least a buck!
Yea need to learn the tells on which passengers are tippers and which aren't. Don't bother with the losers and obvious grubbers and hipsters. They will say they tip. Guess what? They never do.
For the $3 to $4 they’re paying , they feel like they own you and you’re their slave. I say to those people, buy a car, take the train, take a regulat cab or walk. Don’t mess with other people’s livelihood because karma can be a real bitch and your time WILL come.
Do you have any videos where you talk about passengers who slam your door. I have this problem with quite a few of my pax , and it pisses me off. Any thoughts? I thought about putting a sign on the window or somthng " please do not slam the door" - Thanks
You use as exemplo the case of a Gate Community, But let me ask you some thing... What if the Pin was located inside the neighbor, and you can not reach it without going through the gate. Can you just seat there and wait for the 5 minute, or the time only start counting when you reach the Pin location? Thank you very much.
I feel that you as a driver should give a courtesy call. That what I would do. Maybe they have a lot on their mind and forgot about the gate. Giving them a courtesy call is the most professional thing to do.
Jake Miles they actually picked their phone to say come get me, they know they need to be ready to be in a car soon. It's common courtesy to not keep people waiting, especially people that are doing something for you.
Tia G. The question is who are we expecting to be professional? Who is getting paid to provide a service? In any other context we would expect people who are providing a service to be professional. I have invited friends over and it slipped my mind that they had to go through a gate, it's possible that people may not think about that all the time. I would also say that the uber driver and uber rider are doing something for each other. It's not like the uber driver is just going around giving out free rides. It comes across as lazy on the uber driver's part to not call. It's almost as if they are hoping they get to cancel the ride and still get paid.
Terry Tips Just today, when they fire you they do it in a very cold way. They even blocked my email so I couldn't explain or challenge it. I never just cancelled and didn't go to the call. I should've waited the 5 minutes like you do. I think then it doesn't count against you, didn't want to wait around after I knew no one was coming.
You must of did many like that. Well there is always LYFT. But I wonder what happens now? Do you get a Grace period? like to sign up to drive again? Let us know what happens.
Hey man, I've been watching your videos for a while while doing some research on Uber and Lyft, now I'm thinking of signing up with Lyft, so I'm going to help you out by using your code I understand we both get bonuses rigth?
Lyft cancellation hack: just press call rider. Let it open phone call, then kill call before it connects. The app will already have detected that you pressed the call rider button, thereby already qualifying you for a verified cancellation. It's shady but hey, they had 5 minutes to get their asses to the curb. And you can do this "call" anytime during the waiting period.
Don't know. But if you do it fairly by there rules. They should not even send you a cancellation warning. I did 17 in one week. No warning. I just followed there rules. And was fair to customer.
Just wanted to say thank you to all the drivers who do this because I end up being the one who picks them up and makes that $15+ instead of $3 and looking like a total impatient douchebag. So thank you for canceling your rides and making it easier for me to have $300+ days ;) keep on keeping on I love that money.
Well.... I work in NYC. My chances are very likely. So what I do is log off immediately until I leave the proximity of that location. Has happened to me multiple time especially uberpool.
As a passenger I am ready when I order the uber or Lyft and will be waiting outside when they are 2 to 5 minutes away
spot on. if you cancel on a rider, definitely turn the app off until you are far enough away to know you won't get that same rider, otherwise you are for damn sure getting a 1 star rating cause they'll be pissed you cancelled and they got charged the cancellation fee
They can't rate you if they never got a ride
That is only if you accept their second request. Just hit that X button (for lyft) on the to left corner to reject it lol .
This is probably why so many people make so little with Uber. They don't follow the rules, too nice to people, waste time, etc, etc, etc...time is money! Terry you're the best! My 2nd week ubering in Atl, and totally diggin it after watching all your stuff!!!
my pleasure
I bought the Rideshare Timer app specifically for the easy to use timer on the screen. It already paid for itself with the first cancellation fee :)

Alex_TNW how
Byron Blandon They request me and then cancel within 2 minutes. Basically just giving their money away and paying for ride they aren’t going to get.
jjjj me too g but u think they can fire me thoo ?
i press get help and didnt get paid for canel fee and they still give me the money but u think i can get fired braa ? let me kno asap
Thank you for all your tips I am new to lyft and your tips have helped me make some money I am trying to get to that 1000 a week
Put in the effort you will get there.
Treat it like a 40 hour customer service job where you ge to cruise around, listen to music, and don't have to worry about the weather (assuming you have AC and heat in your car) and youre gold. When you arrive park so it is easy to pull off quickly.
I started Ubering today after watching your videos I felt really comfortable thxs for the tips
how about LYFT?
they doing $500 bonus depends where you at click my link under videos
So if an old lady on crutches is unable to get into your vehicle within five minutes, but she's limping along on the sidewalk towards your vehicle, out of breath, careful not to slip and fall in winter conditions, taking some time but doing her honest to goodness best, will you simply cancel and leave her standing there as soon as five minutes runs out instead of helping and giving a little extra time?
Hey Terry guess what . I have told a few Uber/Lyft drivers about your channel 😎 . You give great tips.
Thanks much appreciated 😁
No I do cancel alot tho sometimes before getting the rider and over time im assuming they added up
thanks you!
keep the great tips and techniques coming very helpful for me out here in Los Angeles
You said with Lyft you can see where their going, how do you find that out? I've been driving for Lyft for a week and didn't know anything about that. You have a cool channel. I subscribed. :-)
Thanks. You can see where You going after you arrived only. click the little window box.
With regular Lyft I don't think you can see the destination in advance. However, Lyft Line, you can definitely see it.
+Leon Bain after you accept ride look for a small box and press it
I prefer lyft over uber cause uber customers are so damn quick to complain. Damnn
you just have to make sure with Uber that the app has recognized that you arrived or the 5 minute clock by them won't start

Chris Silva haha same here! That pisses me off, I think that is so disrespectful.
When I drove in LA 80% of pax slammed doors. Like wtf. Now I drive in Seattle, half the miles, 50% more earnings. And no one ever slams my door.
Chris Silva yo. This is a problem for me too and my car is brand new 2018. I can’t stand ppl
You use as exemplo the case of a Gate Community, But let me ask you some thing... What if the Pin was located inside the neighbor, and you can not reach it without going through the gate. Can you just seat there and wait for the 5 minute, or the time only start counting when you reach the Pin location? Thank you very much.
on both apps you can push that you arrived.
what I do is get to the gate. open app to make sure I arrived. if I didn't I arrive. I hit arrived manually on the app
OMG..!!! I didn't know that.! From now on I'll be the Cancellation Master.! Thanks for the tip.!
5 min is a lot. Should be like 3 min and max 5min from them to arrive.
thank you Mr. cancellation King
Please let me know thank you. if we cancel the rider collect the $$$, can people RATE us??? Cause if they can, it will be 1star for sure lol
No one can rate anyone on cancellations
Thanks Terry! Love yer content dude
I feel that you as a driver should give a courtesy call. That what I would do. Maybe they have a lot on their mind and forgot about the gate. Giving them a courtesy call is the most professional thing to do.
+Jake Miles never!!!! :)
+Jake Miles No worries body by Jake another ride will come after I cancel
+Jake Miles lol I hear that all the time thanks Jake enjoyed the convo :)
that sounds like my cancellation strategy.
I got deactivated for cancellations. Almost are were no shows or I got sent to the wrong address.
hmmm how long ago was this?
Terry Tips Just today, when they fire you they do it in a very cold way. They even blocked my email so I couldn't explain or challenge it. I never just cancelled and didn't go to the call. I should've waited the 5 minutes like you do. I think then it doesn't count against you, didn't want to wait around after I knew no one was coming.
You must of did many like that. Well there is always LYFT. But I wonder what happens now? Do you get a Grace period? like to sign up to drive again? Let us know what happens.
I really can’t stand uber
I had a passenger saying I cancelled him twice and I never got a request from him..
Cheater
I like the video. And people who are punctual on their own without blaming there tardyness on the. driver
This is your 5 min call im leaving gn.
How do you know if its a short or long trip How do you know final destination.
With Lyft you can find out after you hit arrived. With Uber you can't find out until you start to trip
Thanks
+Apraham Gogus after arrive on LYFT hit the little sqaure box on left then you can see where the pax going.
Hey man, I've been watching your videos for a while while doing some research on Uber and Lyft, now I'm thinking of signing up with Lyft, so I'm going to help you out by using your code I understand we both get bonuses rigth?
yip and thank you. you in ATL?
No, vegas
So when I sign up I type your code on the code options box?
cool yes we both get a BONUS after certain amount of rides. I heard Vegas is busy
+jose luis serrano just look under video and click link to lyft
lyft mentor told me the courtesy call is optional.
Nunya Business yip that's the new feature months ago you had to call
Lyft cancellation hack: just press call rider. Let it open phone call, then kill call before it connects. The app will already have detected that you pressed the call rider button, thereby already qualifying you for a verified cancellation. It's shady but hey, they had 5 minutes to get their asses to the curb. And you can do this "call" anytime during the waiting period.
How many cancelations does Uber allow before they suspend you ?
Don't know. But if you do it fairly by there rules. They should not even send you a cancellation warning. I did 17 in one week. No warning. I just followed there rules. And was fair to customer.
I get cancellation warning all the time saying I cancel to much
+Lauzon Zion I used to get them when I was new. Are you a new driver?
No
How can I make $400 to $500 a week with Uber
I cancelled an uber pool ride after 5 minutes and they wouldn't give me my credit. No idea why I didn't get it
+Blake Simpson make sure it says arrived. Sometime the it will never arrive because on pin point off.
Just wanted to say thank you to all the drivers who do this because I end up being the one who picks them up and makes that $15+ instead of $3 and looking like a total impatient douchebag. So thank you for canceling your rides and making it easier for me to have $300+ days ;) keep on keeping on I love that money.
I cancel and then go offline to not deal with them. Then go on my merry way...
me too. unless it's a 2.5 surge then I'm knocking on the door
+Terry Tips lol right
hahah
Bull and s***I broke my pinky toe I told them to wait 10 seconds before I went down there there are gone and they canceled and charged me 5.00
Also how is uber in Atlanta how much hours do I need to work what you would say to make $400 or $500 for Uber in Atlanta
Lauzon Zion in Atlanta i work 12 hours a day and ova 1400 a week. If i take a day off its about 1200 a week.
solid advice, I totally agree
great video thank you!
Anything for you christi
Great video
U the type of driver ill write horrible reviews at
This video is everything! lol
Gotta be careful with that shit...... you ever get the same fuckin passenger you JUsT canceled on??? Guaranteed a 1 star that's that bullshit.
+Cihan Ugur what's they odds
Well.... I work in NYC. My chances are very likely. So what I do is log off immediately until I leave the proximity of that location. Has happened to me multiple time especially uberpool.
+Cihan Ugur what part of ny
NYC all 5 boroughs.
Will report this video to uber and lyft!
Lol
Hilarious!!
