Keep It SImple, Keep It Sweet....
I won't ever sell my 90 C1500 ext cab with the 350 tbi, it was my first Chevy truck, I grew up in a Ford family and they always hated my obsession with these trucks, GMT 400 will always be my go to for a reliable and easy truck to work on.
I also have a 90 c1500 ext cab long bed
@@alexhamilton3073 They are great trucks and so easy to keep running.
Tbi always runs I swear if it dosent its always the ignition module keep a spare one and your good to go
@@twisted5.0hh mine was down cause of the timing, I took the time to change out a lot of things. Timing could still be better adjusted but it's running again lol
@BobCena-zi1xg you shouldn't have to do the timing at all. Bring it to top dead center, set initial timing at 0 with the timing advance unplugged then shut truck off plug back in and the computer does the rest.
I'm about to do a throttle body rebuild on my 95 C1500. Drove it in high school 20 years ago and now working on restoring it. Excited to get started, thanks for the vids
Same bro I grew up being dropped of at school in my dads 91 C1500 now its mine, time flies🙃🙃
I like the transition through the tools to get it removed, it reminds me of the meme that starts with a wrench and ends with the torch. “Please come off--I’m not asking anymore!” Lol
I will be doing this mod to my 5.7 before putting it in the ole 93.
Bringing back memories from my 94 OBS👍was worth it
Thinking about doing the same dose it help at all or how about just living the flanges on it but just rase the injectors up
Because I do like to run my air filter
best mod to start with on any TBI 305 or 350 is to start in the fuel tank and work your way up ... order a 96 vortec 350 fuel pump , Ac Delco brand ( Reason is the fuel pressure falls Immensely off of idle and is barely enough to keep a Stock engine happy , which with mods it will instantly become to lean to keep it from running right or noticing any difference in Acceleration over the pinging ...... comes with screen and is direct fit + Quality OEM ... then go to the Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator and rebuild the TBI , clean it good ... Don't Upgrade the Injectors unless you do a Rebuild and a Cam/heads ... you won't be able to burn all of that fuel and it'll kill the engine instantly , plus it helps to get the Computer Flashed to handle the mods ... doesn't cost much and theres a limit to the Cam you can go / compression etc... thats under 1500 to do all of that listed ... sticking to the stock stroke is best for a stock TBI-Computer ran engine unless you want to go aftermarket... stock heads suck and not worth the time/effort/money on porting/working them over...
I raised mine 1 inch and the actual TBs about 1/4 inch. It was a kit. What also helped was an aftermarket air cleaner, open 360. I had to buy the one that hangs lower on the engine ( forgot the name) because now the hood hit the stock air cleaner! Also adjusted the idle up just a little. It is only a V-6 but it now "goes fast" on the ramps and likes doing 85. I did not cut off that lip.
Do you know the name of the kit.
I thought it was found on the summit racing equipment website. Maybe the box is shown in the video. @@sharifbenyisrael6493
Also upgrading the exhaust starting at the factory y pipe helps a lot ,and use a Flowmaster y pipe collector and a high flow cat you'll see a nice difference
Got a 95 short wide the 4.3 threw a rod 345k on it.
Got a 305 from a buddy at work it’s gonna be my DD was looking for little things I can do
Just gonna keep it simple interior needs attention
Got shorty headers Borla pro x gonna do 2 inch drop on the back only and enjoy
I have done this 3 times. All 3 times I also put in new fuel pressure regulator springs and injector screens. Also installed the screw style adjustable pressure regulators. Could not tell what I did different from one to the other. But the first and third I could tell no difference in performance. The second time holy crap it made a big difference and sold it with the truck it was on. The second one is why I made the third. The guy that bought the truck with it on paid me to build him one for a friends truck but like I said it did not seem to make a difference. There was just some sort of unknown magic I did to the second one even when you transferred it from truck to truck it worked. I had a couple people ask me to do it again but I told them I do not know why the second one was so good and could not guarantee results so they did not have me do it.
i would bet it was the fuel pressure. i did the quarter mod to my reguator (went from11 psi to 14) and it made a noticeable difference in get up and go and increased my mileage by 3mpg
The second one you sold probably had some actual vortec heads. Not the junk old 191 truck heads.
I like the way you think! I have the same salad bowl and stock air cleaner set up, with a 4” duct for the cold air from the fender. I just found out this set up costs over 10 HP! I ordered a flat base 14” open element set up with a dominator size bore, to set on top of my salad bowl. I like a bit of induction sound. I agree, keep it simple. My 89 Silverado is a joy to work on. Nice attention to detail on your truck! Super clean never goes out of style.
Ty
I actually went back to a round air cleaner with the salad bowl
@@DrivenbyGears mind sharing why? Is stock setup better somehow?
love your music u got in the back ground of your video..........
Haha it's youtube music
Like the engine paint 👍
real good video my brother...
Thanks 4 watching
I really like your product value bro keep up the good work
Thanks brother
Just a thought, but, if you have the availability, or a local machine shop, I'd use a vertical milling machine to do the "cutting" work......first, everything will be totally dead even in height and the finish, with a bottom cutting end mill, wouldn't require any sanding or surfacing. Also guarantees your air flow to be dead even...
I got a 92 mobile i change air flow and 02 but some time i give it the gas truck have 2 catch up
How about cut the center section of the tbi and install a OVAL throttle plate similar set up to the tpi throttle body when it got replaced with a 1000cfm oval throttle plate which is now standard on all throttle bodies with around 400 hp and up😎
Ditch the stock heads and put a set of non swirl heads on it. Had an 89 TBI 350 with a junk set of 882 heads and that made a huge improvement.
eventually i know tbi heads suck
the 882 heads are good but if you bore the swirt port heads and get you a good chip tuner it will be just as good..
What's 882 heads
@@mrworldwide6770 882 heads are boat anchors/door stops.
@@mrworldwide6770 regular carb v8 350 heads
Nice… did it make a difference? I’m thinking of doing mine. Is the best method to just use a grinder to get the imprints down?
On mine those flanges locate the air cleaner. Not sure shaving of those ribs helps air flow at all with the stock air cleaner spacer. Hmmm. I do like the injector spacer though.
Ita been in my experience that any mod to the TBI will require upgrade to the ECU to function properly. The stock self learning ECU has a certain parameters that must be met, above or below any of the parameters causes the vehicle to not function properly.
I used a spacer the injectors sit higher but did not shave the metal around the injectors, I do not believe that would help, did anyone do a dyno to prove added horsepower?
Like the info keep it simple
I wonder if this mod would work for a tbi 4.3, I know slicing the backs of the butterflies helps, but I could do this while i'm at it
Wow!! Thats cool thanks
I'm not convinced this is going to do anything without a cam and intake. Everyone says TBI heads are the worst thing on the planet. But After all of my modifications I can stay side by side with my dad's 85 vet until about 70. That's when I have to switch from third to Fourth. We haven't got to race since I put in a Dana 80 but I can tell you that b**** is heavy and slow the truck down a lot. The Chevy 8.5 is just junk. I started off twisting the axle shafts. Then stacked the 454 clutch I was running and had to go to a heavy duty six puck. Then I twisted the drive shaft like a toothpick. Now I'm running a f450 rear end with its drive shaft. I'm about to do the solid axle swap on it. With airbags up front. My engine is far from factory. Fully balanced and blueprinted 388. She's due for a rebuild so it'll be a 392 and I'm going to shorten up the cam LSA a little bit and go from a 114 to a 112. And you cannot push those heads past .56 lift without modification. I broke every damn valve spring in that b****. But when I was still running the throttle body she would pull past 6500 no problem. And my Cam's not even that radical it's 218 224. I can tell you drivability is hurt. But I would rather have the power if you just stomp on the throttle she'll fall flat on her face and backfire. You have to roll into it. Doesn't matter if I'm running TBI or carburetor. I'm about to put my TBI back on due to 93 octane being a million dollars and with the throttle body I can run e85 no problem the carburetor doesn't seem to like it.
yet if you got a set of low end heads on you would smoke that vette
My only question would have to be... Can you tell a difference?
So it gives better throttle response?
i got a 1990 k5 blazer i rebuild the engine bored my block 30 over
Did you notice any difference?
Looks to me that the injectors would over spray the throat of the carb and fuel would run on to the intake manifold and be a fire hazard
looks to me like you have no idea what your talking about...
@@hashy3 maybe you are correct. But I have seen it happen before
Where did you get the thicker gasket
Has anyone else done this dose it help
Is the transition supposed to be more rounded (radiused)? Like how they put round clay around intake ports when they flow test them?
Idk
What did grade did you use to sand it down ?
Do you have any dyno or facts proving improvement?
What’s the music and where did you get it
Did you have a stock tbi pump in it?
Glad to see you're trying little tricks to continue to destroy LS motors, haha. Pretty cool man, never heard of TBI porting.
Seems to have been around a long time I didn't either tell keep reading up on it. Thanks 4 watching.
You can port the stock tbi and run up 360 hp with it rather than upgrading. It's a poor boy trick rather than upgrading
@@aaronfuller881 the ZZ4 in my truck is making more than that. I used a 454 throttle body, a Weiand intake, and a K&N velocity stack. This idiot put the stock air cleaner back on it which is 75% of the restriction causing the problem. So whats his cure? Reducing the velocity of the intake charge by cutting of the flanges designed to bring the speed of the air to a specific speed for fuel atomization, but did the exact apposite making the problem worse.
That is in no way porting. It didn't enlarge shit
@@MasterWitchDoctor hey man , I have a stock 5.7 TBI set up in my ‘ 91 GMC , that I’m chasing a rich running problem at idle. It looks like the injectors are just spraying too much damn fuel. It does amazing on the highway, but around town it’s terrible and idle surges. I’ve replaced every damn sensor, flow tested injectors, coil, distributor, plug 🔌 ends , etc. will that 454 throttle body set up fix my problem? Now I did port an polish the heads. That really did increase the cfm. I didn’t measure that , but I opened up the air and exhaust galleys a lot more than stock for sure. If you could help me figure out these gremlins, I would greatly appreciate that.
Will this work on the 4.3 engine ?
Machine shop honed and ground ?
Did you say used a different gasket? Where did you get it ? Part # plz , great video !
amzn.to/2PEI69S
If you get the ppv or "police special" injectors you get more fuel to
Did this now my truck is idling rough and shutting off completely help any ideas
I'm probably late, but that sounds like a vacuum leak or a problem with the EGR valve.
Yeah, I wouldn't fool with hacking those parts off. GM designed that way for a reason. If it dose work it's not going to add much HP.
probably get more by adding a K&N air filter
negative ghost rider the pattern is full. Thanks for posting.
did you up grade your fuel pump and pressure regulator spring
The spring yes but not the pump
Wouldn't the throttle body spacer do the same thing without having to cut up your throttle body?
Not very much
change your stock intake and up grade to a edelbrock intake
Right... You mean his throttler? That part killed me. 😂😂😂
okay i thoought that was your music you put on there..
i did that on my truck i did alot of up grades on my blazer.
N9ce
So did it work ? was it worth all the hassle ? looked for a update on the mod and you have not said anything about it..............
Yea I need make a update video. Maybe a small amount of throttle response but I don't think enough to really matter.
@@DrivenbyGears Thanks for the response ! I was hoping it would do more.
I have a 92 chevy 1500 single cab, long bed with a crate 350 bored 40 over. The motor runs strong but my transmission and rear end is over worked, I assume. I'm no mechanic, my uncle did the work before selling me the truck for $500.00. What's my next step?
The transmission and rear end in a K1500 can take a lot. If you are having issues you should bring it to a trusted Mechanic first
@@rmmm6725 thanks!
Have you tried flipping over the air cleaner lid? Lot easier and probably more hp gain.
It's to hot in texas for that plus with my headers that engine bay is cooking. I went back to a open air cleaner.
@@DrivenbyGears that's only a problem when you're in traffic. When the truck is cruising there is tons of air flow around the engine. My 90 k5 loves having the air cleaner upside down. I run a HD ac delco filter with the outer element.
the air cleaner flip only introduces more hot air into the engine and more noise. Keep the closed air filter housing and tubing. Removing the restrictor from the resonator where it pulls air from the inside the fender allows more air and keeps cooler air coming in.
. Next best thing would be a cowl hood with a enclosed air box to get cooler air into the engine.
@@Country78155 I agree with your recommendation on leaving the OEM air cleaning system as is. Where is the restrictor that your recommend taking out? Thanks
@@BDuck-lp2pg remove the resonator that comes our if the fender. Look inside and you will see a reducer cone (for lack of better terminolgy) use a Drexel or tool of your choice and cut that cone on both sides. Be careful not to cut thru the outer housing. That will remove the restriction in that resonator.
I am driving my other truck today, other would take a picture with the cone removed.
Always safer to remove TBI from engine first,,then take apart. Replace fuel inlet gaskets,& always torque inj. pod top screws to spec in. pds..,,,it will leak fuel if not done properly!!
Man Ive had that thing on and off probably 6 times.
@@DrivenbyGears My tbi running like crap since weather cooled down lots of popping through exhaust manifold and muffle after turning idle screw to the right maybe too much lol
Were u able to tell the difference?
More responsive
I have a 94 suburban Silverado edition TBI it it idles low when warm NO check engine light what do you think it could be timing??? Never never stalled out before shakes a little bit at idle
Hard to say there lot of variables, idle air control valve, vacuum leak, tps......

Also gives it way too much air and the benefit of looking trashy

Silly question but does the spacer help? Actual HP or seat of the pants HP?
Very minor anything
What kind of grinding disk to get more air flow into your tbi
Dremel would be easier. And just use a soft sanding disk to buff it out
@@DrivenbyGears thank you
I think I used a green pad and red
Like the ones you can get at harbor freight
Why did you left those sharp edges to the butterflies? It's good that you ground down the high spots, but air needs to curve in to the engine, not break a 90 degree. It needs to look like end of musical instrument. Trumpet, tuba, trombone, various horns, etc, expanding gradually and smoothly
Well I didn't want take down to much.
is that 350 injectors or 454
350
By chance do you remember how long this took to complete?
Mine took me 2 hours with a lot of beer brakes and cigarette breaks
What causes a jerking, surg, hesitation at low speed ?(35mph to 45-50mpg)
I thought it was the transmission but transmission shop said it was good. It's like the engine isn't advancing and trans not holding a down shift.
I just can't find the cause. I've replaced to much to list and not enough to have found the problem. Any suggestions?

I don't know what part of the country yawl live but here in the Denver, Colorado we have this thing called a Emission test . If your OBS Chevy doesn't have the emission equipment or the same engine or any other foolcanery smog stuff it came with from the year it was built it will fail emissions and you will not be able to register the vehicle. So with that being said, save your nickel's and drop in a HP Gm crate motor $$$$,, and turnkey and enjoy!..
I wonder if the 350 TBI and the 454 TBI are the same TBI....
Different sized bores and injectors. You could use a 454 TBI on a 350 if you mill the ports on your intake manifold and get a new chip written to make use of the new unit. A lot of guys did that in the early 90's.
The 91-95 454 TBI has a different base on it. I have one of those. The idle air passages are also much larger. The throttle bore is closer to 2”. The lip around the bore is milled flat at the factory. It also came stock with the 1/4” injector housing spacer. Too bad it would not fit my 89 Silverado 5.7 TBI.
@@jamesmumford774 I have a 87 tbi square body 5.7, isn't it a direct swap. What issues did you have.
@@mikejones3809 I did not use the 94-95 454 TBI on my 89 5.7. The 94-95 454 TBI will not fit the intake manifold on a late 80’s 5.7 TBI due to having a redesigned body. The earlier 88-90 454 TBI’s would fit if you bored the holes in your manifold out to fit the larger bore 454 TBI. Stock Small block TBI’s have 42mm bores. 454 TBI’s are 50mm. I went with a Roy V Morse Machine modified 5.7L TBI bored out to 46mm complete with all the mods from this video. It will work with the stock TBI manifold, although I intend to have my new manifold bored to match. I understand that 454 TBI’s have poor idle issues when used on a 5.7L due to having much larger idle air passages. CFM Technologies also offers the bored and milled 46mm TBI’s. Both shops are highly regarded. I hope this answers your question.
you could keep your 350 tbi just make sure you up grade you fuel pump to a ac delco ep381 pump and change that stock pressure regulator spring and get you a good tuner and dont buy a chip off internet that dont work..
Do you run the truck with the top flip?

Aah ok im gonna run the flip top on mine until I get that cold air intake lol 😆 I'm rebuilding the tbi oday once my parts come in
Nice
Don't forget to smile more
Prob helps fuel economy too

I wouldnt let you in my shop
This is some crystal meth mods to the max....lol
You seriously need to invest in a die grinder with a double cut carbide but, that'd get the job done like pronto, including grinding the venturi shafts down a little that'll let more flow through the TBI. You also need to ditch the stock breather and get at least a 14x3 inch open breather setup, a 14x4 inch would be better if you have the clearance. Also, a 2 inch soup bowl spacer between the TBI unit and breather would help in atomizing, along with the TBI spacer between the TBI and intake manifold.
Interested in your recommendations. Do you have product information for the items your recommending? Thanks
Not really gonna make a difference or a big one for sure. Might help a turbo set up breath a little better but idk about stock fr fr
Well stock sucks
how u gonna be that tweaked and not own a damn dremel tool....

Open breather is better...doin that to TBI doesn't make that much of a difference...
Lmao. How the hell is this going to increase horsepower? How does that reduce restriction? It doesn't enlarge the holes in the throttle or deshroud anything.
