I just want to play games. Vasel going woke and I've never gone back. Further, I hate how they decide who can speak in the game space. They purport to be all inclusive while censoring anyone they don't have the same beliefs as.

The moderator (Octavian) is just as guilty as Vasel, he censors/bans anyone (even game designers) who doesn't adhere to Woke agendas.
This is why geeks should have gatekept our hobbies and interests. They let all the weirdos and activists in, they took over, and changed everything. Now they are kicking everyone else out.

@nothing3376 I don't know if you've heard about Sweetbaby Inc. They're one of many consultant companies who grift upon leftist cancel culture. They leech upon video gaming studios and request premium consultant fees (that get payed right out of the pocket of the consumer, a.k.a. you sucka), so that they get to censor games and make them more sterile, unaestetic, if not down right ugly. You get to pay more for an inferior product. If this can happen to the video games industry, what makes you think it won't happen to the board gaming industry as well? We have to call out this political push into our apolitical hobby before it gets a stranglehold on that too. Us just minding our own business won't be enough.

I was one of the channels called out in this original drama. Just as an FYI the channel and discord was All Aboard Gamer, not the channel featured in this video. All Aboard Gamer has since shut down their channel due to personal reasons unrelated to this so you can't find it now. But the All Aboard Gamer community is one of the best out there.
The names were so similar I totally mixed them up I didn't realized his channel was gone. I have made an edit in the description and will pin this. Thank you. He's a super nice guy, I do know that.

It was rare for the DT reviewers to dislike anything. As such it was generally an unreliable waste of time. I moved on a long, long time ago. Didn't know it was still a thing.

I got lost... You said this Emory guy is canceling All Aboard Gamer in your description. On his tweet is written All Aboard Games. The RUclips channel on the video is All Aboard Boardgames... Who is he canceling? Also, you say that Tom fired some people and hired woke workers in their place. Who got fire? And, apart from this Emory guy, who else was hired?
I want to check the facts myself because what you are claiming is concerning.
Emory cited the wrong channel in his Tweets, but the real channel was AllAboardGamer, which is gone now. All Aboard Boardgames has nothing to do with this.
I don't care what religion, gender, orientation, whatever you are. I don't want to get into politics or DEI stuff or anything like that. What matters to me is whether you'll trade your wood for my sheep. I don't want virtue signaling. I don't want videos of influencers crapping on other influencers. I just wanna play games. I've been a fan of Tom and his crew for well over a decade. =)
Risky to have such a libelous person on your team. Straight up calling people out to cancel too. I cant get on board with that. I don't think Tom is acting out of malice, but he is clearly participating.
To be clear, the channel Emory went after was AllAboardGamer - no longer in existence - not All Aboard Boardgames. Wrong channel, but correct information about the clown who did this.
I'm from Brazil and things happen the same way around here. 3 or 4 people see something they don't like, call their cancel buddies, their "cancel net" starts spreading misinformation and bad stuff about whomever said what they dislike.
Our niche is infected with this woke agenda and it's horrible. I've never seen any video taking about this stuff in the board game universe, until this one. Since I don't follow BGG and Dice Tower on RUclips, I wasn't aware of their strong woke side, but sometimes their videos popped up in my feed. I'm not even going to watch them anymore.

They're horrible, things were not like this a few years ago. Boardgamegeek for example, before we used to be able to have opinions about anything as long as it was respectful. Now if you say anything that is contrary to typical wokespeech they will outright ban you. One day I criticized the Blood Rage designer Eric Lang on Twitter, because he was posting racist shit about white people. I kid you not, one moderator from boardgamegeek saw my tweet, and they identified my boardgamegeek account (which had a different name) and they banned me.

Wrong channel cited in the video. AllAboardGamer was the channel targeted by Emory in 2023, I believe. Possibly 2022.

I don’t know Tom, but I have noticed how the DT has changed. I remember thinking he was a great family focused guy and quite open about his Christian faith… this doesn’t seem to be the case anymore…

@@JonDelArroz I do build on my own experience. I have said that real-world politics have no place in a game, just in-game politics. I play Battletech more than any other game and have played since the 1980s. I do tend towards the bad guys in the lore, Draconis Combine for Inner Sphere and Clan Smoke Jaguar. When I play, warcrimes are just a natural military strategy, and fun. The groups that I normally play with don't give 2 ducks about what a person does in the privacy of their home.
BoardGameGeek went super woke a few years ago. And he certainly helped that along. And he dares to call himself a Christian. He does play politics with board game reviews. His favorite companies get special treatment.

After Hillary lost in 2016, BoardGameGeek went crazy purging anyone who expressed support for President Trump. I suppose it was how they soothed the butthurt.
Boardgamegeek is right at the top of the list. A slew of members were banned when the designer of Wingspan complained on another designer's game page on the site about scantily clad women in games. If ANYBODY posted anything that countered her argument, they were given a lifetime ban. There were no crass remarks just good counterpoints. There were over 120 bans on that alone. You talk about cancel culture! These people are really sick.

I started seeing woke on Board game geek.
First time I saw it was with the post by gloomhaven. And I immediately requested a refund for frosthaven and haven’t played that game ever since.
Even though I love large RPG campaign games.
I’ve met Tom and have gone on several of the cruises. He seemed nice and held a church service on the Sundays - not something most people would do. Zee, Sam and Eric seemed nice as well. IMO, when he started gathering people around him to be “diverse”, things started going down hill, both in the quality of content and the quality of character. While his motivation MAY have been noble, the effect has been bad. This is the second tale of someone in his circle cancelling and harassing other content creators for having viewpoints different from their own. Their view becomes the moral standard and they use any means necessary force people to adhere to their beliefs. They will harass, contact vendors, customers, advertisers, etc; they will silence people in forums and on social media.
Again, I have no idea if this is the GOAL of Tom, but he certainly has had a knack for surrounding himself with these types of people the last few years and my interaction with his content has dropped proportionally.

All Aboard Gamer doesn’t exist anymore. You should update the video and your article to actually cite the correct group that Emory tried to cancel. You should provide links to their social media so we can see for ourselves. You bring up their discord, but don’t provide a server link to the discord. Also, you didn’t provide any information about why Emory would want to cancel All Aboard Gamer. Where is all this information?
When Burke got cancelled he started a group for us "misfits" called Gamers Uncensored. He had just put out his game Faust which I supported because of the idiocy.
I, too, was outed from a group. It all went down lickity split. Someone posted an article about a black game designer who, in his words, made a "black" game about rap music. He said he was surprised that whites liked his game, too. He mentioned that study, I'm sure you're familiar with, by a woman who claimed 93% of game designers and players were white male. This can easily be debunked so, I won't spend time doing that here, but wow, they all came out of the woodwork. Some gender queer male presenting guy who wrote 3 blogs about "homophobia" in gaming. Some women argued misogyny, the black designer and Eric Lang said racism. Janet Wren from Wren games joined in about social constructs indoctrinating children so she was not teaching her kids, pink is for girls or blue is for boys, which is social constructing.
I began to respond to this ridiculous article. I began with, "This is stupid..." and I accidentally hit the send button and immediately hit Edit to finish...and I was booted!!! I mean, it wasn't even 3 seconds!
So, a bunch of gathered in Burkes group and we were sharing our stories. Many of the them were told by their former groups, if you don't like it, leave and start your own group. But that wasn't good enough for them. They snuck into our group, flagged our comments and FB shut it down! We eventually brought it back as a reload.
I was completely sickened. Game review channels were my regular viewing. I was subscribed to a ton of them. Then Tournament Fishing happened and that snake Suzanne Sheldon. I watched Vasel that day he was doing crowdfunding and he passed up the game without reviewing it. What a backstabbing, arrogant dirt bag. I was hoping to meet him at GenCon but after that, forget it. I unsubscribed almost all of my channels except for 3 or 4 that kept their mouths shut. I can't wait for his empire to fall.
So YOU started with a negative comment with absolutely no context or anything constructive, but it's somehow THEIR fault? I understand that it wasn't intentional, but take responsibility for what you actually did instead of blaming someone else. I was NOT a fan of Suzanne Sheldon, but the gaming goat dude earned every darn bit of scorn received and I don't blame anyone for not wanting to give publicity to something he's associated with. Private individuals are in fact free to not talk about things they don't want to talk about and they don't owe it to you, me or anyone else to talk about anything. The fact that you're more upset over someone trying to treat people right (however ineptly) than someone intentionally being a jerk is quite telling. Now you're waiting for someone (who many people's livelihood depends on and many people go to for info and entertainment) to fail because they tried to be a good person in a way that didn't suit you?! Truly abhorrent....
You giving them money, playtime and engagement is like giving your family drug addicted member drugs because you love/like them but you know if you did you would stop supporting drug addiction and put them to treatment = with Ip, things you like it means vote with your wallet and playtime you have all the power.
This is a problem that could only happen in the era of social media, to people addicted to social media. As a pre internet gamer, these online 'problems' affect me not at all. I'm sad that people get sucked up into them. But then I just have to laugh. I get a game. I play the game with friends. We have a great time. That's it. Why would I give these people the time of day?

What you stated is disturbing. I play games, digital ones to escape the world of politics. I personally hate what America and this world has become. At 79 yrs old, I knew of a better, American values America. So I certainly don't need it my game reviews. Thanks for the heads up.

I used Dice Tower for reviews years ago, but I found some better channels since then. Sad to hear they have gone nasty. I want to know if a game is good, fun, uses quality components, etc.

but are you shocked, i am not. I know a lot of gamers that have nothing really going on in real life. So it makes sense a lot of them would go woke, or on the left.
Sadly I think a lot of them are just losers. Winners are out there in the world making a living, building a family, and enjoying life (including board games if that’s their thing).
Board Games are about sitting together and fighting over who gets to be the dog piece. I just want to play a game not caring about what you side of the fence you hang out on.
I used to be a huge Dice Tower fan... Then slowly got away from it .. there was a few games he reviewed that I own and it felt very bias...I felt like I was saying "I disagree" or "That's not true...." Tom also seem super picky about anything including art style... I remember he saying not to get a game for the art was like a kid drew it.
Wonder if Tom would reconcider reviewing Chaos in the Old World now that he isn't against that team anymore.
I use to enjoy The Dice Tower until Sam left which destroyed the dynamic the trio had. It got worse for me when it actually expanded with the additional reviewers and the dozens of uploads per day. Guess I left at the right time.
I was checking in once a blue moon to see if there's anything worthwhile for me. But like with pro wrestling, there's really nothing for me in the realm any more, except the old stuff. After hearing of this sort of stuff, I'm even less inclined to giving their content a try again.
I will be checking out All Aboard Boardgames. Maybe they will have better reviews, playthroughs, and general vibes that I can appreciate.
Sam leaving is when all this went off the rails. I think he was the heart and soul of the group.

You should unprivate the vid you did on Tom Vasel and have people watch it again.
To me the first sign that buzz words culture culture reached the hobby i love was the drama with two cards in cute everdell game: a male mouse was called a husband and a fenale mouse was called a wife. O horror. I think these were either changed or there are plans to change them for hunter and gatherer in the later editions.
Tom Vasel was a pastor at one point. He also frequently talks about time he spends with his church in his podcast. There's something called new testament Christian. You know, the ones that believe Jesus preached love and acceptance for your fellow man.
I get what you're saying, its not right to attack people for their beliefs. To isolate people for their faith or lackthereof.
Unfortunately, you didn't show any receipts of how you behaved to be blocked from particular groups and events. Objectively, theres not much going for you in terms of you attacking Vasel in this case.
Using Emory as an edge case example, which does not directly show Toms personal beliefs is a big stretch.
Its clear your feelings were hurt by being banned but at a certain point, you gotta look inward for that. Theres no reason that they sell out tickets to events a year ahead of schedule if they're shutting down all people of faith and/or conservative views.

I wonder where you got the name Ayla from for the graphic novel character. It's a Turkish girl's name, Did you come up with it by coincidence or did you maybe know an Ayla. It's also a hebrew name but has a different meaning in Hebrew (in Turkish it means moonlight or the halo around the moon)
Ayalah (אילה) is a doe (female deer), but Ayil (איל) means "strength" and the female form would end is a hay (ה) and so could represent female strength.

I have a question. I know Tom Vassel moved to Florida to be a missionary, so he was a ministering Christian. Of course it’s easy to say he was always a fake Christian but is there more to the story?

Generally, a community is 'kickstarted' with a period of heavy gate-keeping. This sets the tone, direction and prevents it from breaking apart during its vulnerable early stages.
THEN, as the community grows, and gatherers momentum, gatekeeping is crushed by a drive to be more inclusive of everybody. This begins just as the community is able to 'monetize' smaller fragments of it... normally professional services.
AND, finally gatekeeping comes back to eradicate the communities founders, leaving it rudderless, and sometimes toxic. The final stages are normally presented as "we are removing all the old gatekeeping haters...". In reality, it's just another form of it, but less kind, and less capable of surviving any major upheavals. Unless of course the newly ordained moderators simply ban all those who no longer follow the new order. The circle continues.

I had a feeling that they would be like this and just stopped watching Dice Tower years ago. Glad I didn't miss much.

I quit with the Dice Tower years ago. Read where Tom and the Dice Tower were noting their prices for reviews and I was shocked at how much money they were being paid. It was ridiculous. Completely sickened by someone I used to respect and enjoy. As a pastor and game reviewer myself I can't believe someone that claims to be in the ministry would behave in the way he does. Sickens me.
I really enjoyed the Dice Tower a few years ago and still go back over some of the older reviews occasionally - BUT in recent times, the Dice Tower politicising the gaming industry in favour of the Racist, Exclusionist and Cancel Culture philosophy of the “woke” has left me avoiding anything of late coming from the Dice Tower and their cabal of like minded “haters”. I couldn’t care less if a Board /Card / Dice game creator is black, white, male, female, straight, gay, trans etc etc etc - it’s the game I’m interested in.
Name a game review theyve done in the past month that mentioned anything about trans?
Yup, used to love Dice Tower. All about the games and a variety of views. Then they went woke. Sad.

Dark mode would make it easier to watch the screen while listening to your commentary; light mode feels like staring into a lightbulb, like the one behind the LCD screen.
Never been much of a boardgamer, but I am a gamer and pen and paper player so I've got to stay on top of things like this ESPECIALLY because I have a 7 year old son who I want to enjoy the wonderful world of gaming the same way his dad (me) did when I was a kid. Keep gender politics and woke ideology out of gaming, and if you really want it in there make "The Gender Game" and see if there is a market for it.

I have a large board game collection and played regular game nights from the 80s to the early 2000s.
I really enjoyed the online community and BGG in those days.
Then life had other plans and I put the hobby on hibernation for 10 or 12 years.
Returning now, I don't recognize the communities anymore. Really EVERYTHING seems brainwashed and destructive.

BGG is also a complete dumpster fire for the same reasons. I don’t know how many accounts I have had banned there simply for giving a thumbs up to a post the mods deemed “harmful”.
Genuinely shocked and disappointed by this. I always thought Tom was a good guy, only to discover he's actually a POS! That's an immediate Unsubscribe from The Dice Tower channel, and I'm going to have a look at All Aboard Gamer.
I honestly never found Eric Lang's games to be that great. They had some fun designs for certain! But none of them were mainstays.

wow. this is the first ive heard of the dice tower being political and it makes me very sad this is where they decided to lean. I have not been paying much attention to them as of late, but thank you for bringing this to light. I have subbed.
Not a big board game guy but I am a huge fan of Marvel and soon to be DC united and DT does do reviews of those games. Albeit at about a mid-level range of awareness. Probably because they field just so many games they lose track often with synergies and common ability exploits.
That al being said, I have a zero tolerance policy for censorship. And I'm a free speech absolutists and don't condone in any way the actions that others take to try and undermine up and coming game company's. I find the online review community to be rather small and weak and I think I'm starting to understand why.

Saying Vassel is anti-Christian when he is literally heavily involved in his lokal church and Sam Healey made at least one if not more videos on that channel specifically zbout christian-themed games emphasising thst this is important for him... you guys are eating your own people (comment from the other side as I am as far away from you as possible). Also I too dislike games by Lang but to discredit his huge influence he made mostly with one game but still, is crazy to me.

God's views of such things are clear and you cannot be Christian If you accept and endorse what is clearly harmful and wrong(which that community is). Which Vassal does accept an endorse.

I’m no fan of politics in general so I’ve no love for anyone, particularly a board game review channel, applying their political agendas to my hobbies. This, of course, would include the Dice Tower folks, but it apparently also now includes you. These anti-woke videos are low fruit and no better than the content you’re complaining about. Cancel culture isn’t just a Left-leaning problem anymore.
