'Every couple nights or so you pop into my dreams, I just can't get rid of you like you got rid of me. Oh but I my send my best, Cos God knows you've seen my worst.' That's just brilliant.
I've seen Ben Folds twice. The first time was in 2011 with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. The second time was in October 2016 with just Ben and a piano. Both shows were phenomenal. He's a real musician. People forget that he doesn't just play piano. At the ISO show, he came out for an encore by himself and just killed it messing around on some of the percussion instruments.
@@PatrickRob82 Ben is one of the funniest people in music. I couldn't stop laughing at everything he did. He also got conducted the crowd in multi-part harmony for "Not the Same," and it sounded wonderful. Another really funny person I've seen is Matt Nathanson. His concert is part music, part improv comedy.
I don't think people know how hard it is to make that kind of music. The end of performance w no singing=insane! To see them live would've been on my bucket list. I guess it still is.
Fuzzy bass is one of the most brilliant musical devices to come out of the last 50 years when you stop to think about it. In a rock setting, it glues the guitars to the kick drum…in a metal setting, it adds weight to the mid range and makes the guitars sound bigger…in ANY context, it helps bass translate on smaller speakers…and of course BFF used it to completely bypass the need for guitars in the first place. It’s just endlessly useful if you’re willing to explore the entire gain spectrum.
Man, I love this band! It's like every song is perfect. Great lyrics, excellent musicianship, and the vocals are always impressive. AND their live shows were amazing. I feel fortunate that my brother and I were able to see their last show in Minneapolis before they broke up.
I was impressed the first time that I heard battle of who could care less, but I was absolutely blown away the first time that I heard this one. It makes me want to jump around like a happy moron every time that I hear it
Man, never thought it was a bass what made all that feedback! I thought was a hollow body guitar... How did he got this feedback? Does it have a sustainer pickup?
Fuzz bass 4ever. Was surprised when listening to the records how often Sledge used fuzz.
This was September 10th, 1999 in Tokyo, for anyone that's wondering.
JRDay1989 I was just asking myself that question

Great comment. Not this video but in others when playing solo on piano it sounds like a guitar and drum set are right behind him.
Saw him open for John Mayer once. He was so hilarious and soo bloody good. He stole the damn show.

@@danieldougan269 that would have been amazing to be a part of! I love that song.
@@PatrickRob82 Is that when he played Bitches ain't shit several times each concert?
Might be their best song, and that's saying something. What A VERSION!!
This is the song that got me hooked on Ben Folds Five. I bought the Album back in '96 and it was epic awesomeness the whole album through.
When he toured solo he was definitely lacking too excellent vocalists and rhythm section in Sledge and Jessee.

I was able to see them once and I've seen Ben Folds solo three times.
It helps to live in Ben's home state.
I got to see em it and they jammed the hell out of Fair, it was so legendary!

That's the best version of that song that I've ever seen. I'm guessing that this was filmed during the Reinhold Messner tour. Good stuff.
wish there were more live versions 💔

Someone disliked this? This is music mastery!
This is a truly brilliant performance. And Ben's voice sounds excellent here!
this song is so awesome
Simply Stunning Performance, AGAIN!
God I love how they showcased the bass
That chorus is a damn earworm.

@NorthWriter You might be happy to know that they're getting back together to record a new album later this year =)
I have'nt been heard this title.
I can hear Prefab Sprout and Elton John.
Sledge!!!
All this breathing in, never breathing out...
IM GETTING CHILLS
I miss ben folds
optionaxis He didn't go away. I just saw him perform two weeks ago.
Ben Folds Five is no more but Ben Folds is
I wonder is this the last song they played? It's awesome
Be three!
Did a key get stuck in the lower register in the last thirty seconds? It looks like during the piano solo a key is jammed down.
Stephanie Bowsher most likely- Ben’s pretty fond of obliterating pianos
It was broken the whole show.
That one key just couldn't take it anymore

bearpickle Someone commented that it was in Tokyo on 9/10/1999.
That bass is the blade Runner soundtrack
Tally Hall?
this is what happens when you let a guitarist play bass
