I sometimes launder but most of the time I include a cute note from the quilt itself telling how to care for it. My recipients love the note and always tell me they will talk to their quilt, cute, huh. I asked one what they say to the quilt, and I quote, “I am going to take extra good care of you because your maker loved and cared very much for you and me, now you have to love and keep me warm for the rest of my life and I promise to leave you in good hands when I am gone.” WOW, WHAT MORE CAN BE SAID.
Great tips and ways to wrap and roll quilts to give. Love the label, washing instructions and the cute stuffy ideas! With all these ideas I think I can avoid the trash bag. A pillowcase is perfect.
I always launder my quilts that I give as gifts so the gift receiver doesn’t get a surprise when they launder it and it comes out of the dryer all puffy and soft and crinkled!
Every time I wash in All Free & Clear (in case there are allergies and to get out starch; bugs eat starch), with color catcher, dried regular (with a dry towel). Then it gets hung up and photographed, front and back (because the quilting usually shows up better on the back). If industrious, I will make a pocket pillow cover with minky backing (scraps from other quilts). That way the pillow can be on the couch or bed, ready for use. If they don't send me a photo of it being used, it's the last quilt they get. My quilts are forbidden from hanging on walls. Walls don't get cold unless you live in a castle. Once you get one of my quilts, you can do anything you want with them: dog bed, gifted away, donated... just not wall art.
When you use color catcher safety pin it to a rag this keeps the catcher from getting in your washer lint trap.. it can cause damage to the washer if it gets to. Many stuck in it. I found this out the hard way.
You mentioned the kitten quilt behind you tonight. I think you said it was a kit from years ago and no longer available. Is the kitten cut and fused or a very large print? What technique is it? So sweet and crisp! We all learned to never be without post its and painters tape...so useful for so many uses.
Great tips ladies! Love the stuffed animal tip Kristina 🤗

I love that!!

I always make a tote bag to fit the quilt.
I appliqué a bear or something relevant to the recipient, and embroider “My Quilt” on it.
I love the “My Quilt” idea!
Great ideas Ladies, thank you! Merry Christmas! Keep up the great work!
Great suggestions!

That’s a great process!

Hi Joan I’m in Dallas PA

I’m so glad you shared that! I didn’t know about this.

The kitten is applied with raw applique - it's quilted over to hold it in place.
@@kimsandberg1364 thanks for the answer to my question. Great technique...it looks just like a huge photo!
cute ideas, I am finding unfortunately that the recepients no longer think it is necessary to send a pic or a thank you note...just nothing!
That is so sad!!
