  • Here is the second video in desheding your Livestock Guardian Dog. It is extremely important in properly educating yourself on the maintenance of your Dogs coat. Here is the number one rule. .... NEVER ever shave them. This does not cool them down. It will cause so many issues. But just because you never shave them doesn't mean that you don't groom them. You want to keep their coat blown out ... I have a high velocity dryer.. or you can use an air condenser or even a leaf blower ... you will need to condition them to the process... blowing out his coat does multiple things... 1.) is it frees the healthy hair shaft from the dead compacted undercoat... 2.) it also blows out the dirt and any other debris that might be trapped in the coat ... 3.) the most important thing that blowing out a coat does is lift the coat up and allows the cool air to circulate on the skin basically creating an air condition. The fur actually repels the harmful sun rays and keeps him cooler.

This was such a help. I've been doing it wrong all this time. My dog now looks like all the other Pyrenees. With her fluffy white coat. I never thought as a working dog she could look like that. Thank you for posting these videos.

Thank you thank you thank you!!!! We bought a high velocity dryer based on your video, and I can’t believe how well it works to get the undercoat off. We got one for under $200 on Amazon.

Thank you SO much for this!! My Great Pyrenees' coat has become too matted to brush out in some places, and everyone including my vet has been telling me that my only option is to shave him.

These force dryers are amazong for blowing out matted and pr shedding coats on these large fluff dogs. Blow out then a good brushing and a bath, thrn use the blow dryer again to blow all the water out of the coat.

Every dog I've seen going through this process actually seems to live this process. It's actually a relief for the dog to get rid of the old coat.

It's good to know about this important pre-bath step. It's also interesting to see how "toe tapping" GOOD it feels to the dog! :-D

I worked at a "high end" groom shop for 2 years as a bather and my groomer boss would rip me one if i wiggled the dryer hose while i was drying out dogs coats. I had good relationships with all the dogs and i knew that motion back and forth helpes wonders when trying to get the undercoat and mats out of these long coat giants. Helps real well with shor coats like labs and even shorter haired boxers, on wire coats too.
I was quite happy when he baought the aquatic shop i used to work at, i was able to use my own intuition the way i should with the dogs i worked with. I was able to do a lot better work when the owner with the stick up his butt found a new hobby.
Later the manager he left in charge made working there impossible for me to keep up with. I had to leave.
It was the hardest decision i made, i miss those dogs so much.

Thanks great video, I have 4 LGD, so I bought a dryer/blower and will do all my dogs, so much easier way to groom them for correct coat.

That doesn't look as though it would feel very nice. But either does brushing out matts. I suppose its just a necessary evil so they dont get matted and end up with hot spots.

Whether the dog is tethered or not incase he doesn't like the blower, you never ever use a blower on the dog, it damages their kidney's.
