    Kudos to you for keeping the inline six instead of going with a dime a dozen V8. You don't always need a V8 to go fast. I love straight sixes. Currently I am working on putting a 4.7 Jeep inline six stroker into a 1986 AMC Eagle Wagon.

    I bought a clapped out 1971 Malibu for $1,000.00 , sold the 327 and turbo 350 for more than I paid for the car. Right now the car is finally gettin attention again she has a narrowed 12 bolt 33 spline axles a full spool 4:10 gears. The interior is no longer stock full race mode with 12 point cage. The power in her is a 455 Oldsmobile with a 6-71 Dyers street charger and turbo 400. Looking forward to Drag and Drives when she is finished.

    I also have an inline 6. I have dumped a huge amount of money into it. I don't want to spend a lot more money for a blow through or EFI. I want to turbo it. I need help. Any advice will be appreciated.

    I saw you drill the oil pan, but how exactly did you drain the turbo? What fitting did you use in the pan?

    • @BLVCKFLAGD
      @BLVCKFLAGD  Год назад

      On this car, I can't remember exactly because it was a long time ago when I did it. I think I hacked together some hardware store stuff to make it happen -- a barb fitting out of the stock turbo drain, then some rubber hose into another barb style fitting with a 90 degree elbow into the pan. Most likely garden hose or iron pipe type stuff. Mounted it on a metal plate, then lots of jbweld and sheet metal screw to mount it to the oil pan. I wouldn't recommend doing it this way if you care at all how it looks. It hasn't leaked though and its been a few years.

    my only question is BOV. Do you need one? Do you not? Does it do anything funky when you snap the throttle closed? It would have to go on the pipe straight to the intake? I think that would mess with AF ratios and things... please enlighten me

    • @BLVCKFLAGD
      @BLVCKFLAGD  3 года назад

      For a draw through, you don't need/want a blow off valve - the turbo blows straight to the intake plenum. If you had a BOV it would vent air and fuel and potentially cause a fire. Also, the butterflies on the carb are before the turbo (the turbo sucks air through the carb) so them slamming shut and causing extra pressure isn't an issue.
      No need for an intercooler either...the fuel mist from the carb cools everything down sort of like meth/water injection. Sometimes the carb frosts over on this setup.

    There is nothing wrong with an LS swap.....there is a reason why it's such a popular combination....Im currently LS swapping my 1971....but I get wanting to do something different from everyone else....if I could afford it I'd build myself a wicked 377 destroke SB2 that I could shift at 8500rpm with a tko600 5spd trans. That being said tho....don't let the commonality of LS swaps turn you against it....however if you do an LS swap *don't convert it to a carbureted set up* yeah an LS motor looks good with a high rise single plenum and a 4150.....but converting an LS to a carburator cheats you out of the best things about an LS swap....in my opinion there isn't much point in an LS swap if you aren't running efi and a PCM.....I love being able to connect my laptop to my 50 year old Chevelle via hptuners and have a folder with 20 different tune files that I can download in about 2 minutes and switch from a peak hp tune to a peak MPG tune....or a restricted tune that cuts fuel off at speeds above 55mph....or more than 3500rpm so that Incase I decide to let my brother drive it around the neighborhood and he thinks he is going to show off , his chances of losing control of it or being unable to handle the power are greatly reduced by my decision to download a tune file that restricts his ability to abuse the drivetrain. Other benefits to retaining the EFI is increased fuel economy, easier starting, and it's so much easier to tune it from a laptop while you sit on the toilet and drop a deuce....or while your sitting in the the car, or you can use the RTT feature (real time tuning) while you drive the car....as well as you can data log and see every single the the engine and all its sensors are doing....it will even tell you if the oil is low....if your getting knock ....how much hp and torque your putting out the transmission tail shaft. Etc etc.....it really makes building and driving an old hot rod so much more fun.....it's so much nicer than getting under the hood with screw drivers and a distributor wrench and timing light ....you don't have to get dirty or break a sweat while tuning the PCM....if your fuel ratio is too rich or lean you don't have to try and correct it with a vacuum guage connected to the carb....or remove float bowls to change out jets.....LS swapping my 71 Chevelle was the best thing I ever did. I sourced a 170k mile lq4 6.0....stripped it down to a short block and put it back together with a LS swap oil pan....fresh rebuilt 243 heads with ls6 valve springs and a summit pro LS stage 3 cam...a gen4 vortec truck intake...36lb injectors...new lifters ...92mm FAST throttle body and a set of long tube headers by Doug's headers. According to my hptuners when I data log I'm putting 461hp out the trans tail shaft. Not sure how accurate that hp data is....but I'm for sure making 400hp at the flywheel easily. When I did my LS swap I also did away with my stock th350 trans and went with a 4l60e and a 2500 stall....the motivation for swapping to an LS came because the first modification I made to my Chevelles drivetrain was I purchased a 12 bolt open diff rear from a 72 Monte Carlo and I threw away the unit axels and 3.08 ring and pinion and I rebuilt it with a Detroit lock tru trac posi unit....Moser forged axles....and a motive gear 4.10 ring and pinion....well my stock 307ci did not appreciate that beefy new rear end and deep gear ratio and it was working really hard just to drive the speed limit on the highway....3500-3600rpm just to run 60-65mph. The 307 did good cruising around town but if I wanted to drive up and down the interstate or take it on a long distance trip it would have had that 307 working pretty hard and using a ton of fuel. With my 6.0/4l60e 2500 stall and 4:10.1 gears I can run 70mph at about 2100rpm....about 1900rpm to run 60mph. My wheels are vintiques 8inch vette Rally's painted black with flat caps and no rings....my tires are Firestone Firehawk Indy 500s with bold white letters .....275/60/15 in the back and 245/60/15 upfront....the rear tires are taller than the front but the way I have my Chevelles stance sitting it's not obvious the rear tires are taller than the fronts....it sits level...the taller rear tires don't cause the back of my car to sit high or all jacked up.....in my opinion it looks like an old school nascar stance with 4 equally wide tires and the body sitting low over the wheels. If you don't go with an LS then I hope you build something cooler than a turbo straight six....maybe try something nobody has ever considered.....like a bmw or Benz v8 swapped into it....those bmw dohc 4.8 liter v8s that come in earlier 740i are pretty easy to acquire and run really strong....the bmw 4.8 is substantially more powerful than what a 4.8 LS is.....plus it's modern EFI so it can be tuned from a laptop with the right software. Anyway......I'm sorry for rambling so much...I'm a gear head and a passionate one at that....and I'm a Chevelle fanatic...I've had five of them since 1998 but I only ever owned one at a time. Good luck with your build....I hope you enjoy your Chevelle as much as I've enjoyed mine. I'm gonna subscribe to your channel so I can stay informed on your build and enjoy watching you make progress.
