This is just terrific singing and acting by Sarah Connolly, Thanks so very much for sharing it. It certainly gives one a taste for the promised DVD of the complete production - let 's hope that comes out soon!
Ever so often I try to watch other videos of this aria. Then I return to this one, go kind of weak in the knees, and ... sorry, what was I saying ... ?
@rlee1976 It's 'Guardami e tutto oblio' ie 'When you look at me I forget everything'. So he's not asking her to look at him. Makes sense as the kind of thing you might say while kissing someone who's asked you to kill your best friend.
he's totally asking her to look at him! If it's not clear in this confusing staging, you can tell from the context (ie, Come ti piace imponi, where he says his reward will be a sweet look from her).
Why do you think that? I cannot imagine anyone better than Sarah Connelly in that role. Who would you rather see? There are some amazing counter tenors, David Daniels to name only one. Is that what you are thinking?
She is so absolutely extraordinary as an actress. And her singing is just beyond....

Love the interpretation
What a heart-felt plea!
She is magnificent.
What a singer and actor: great stage presence. Totally convincing.
Actress!
@@MrThepresident2009 trouser role I said it was convincing
Isn’t she just wonderful?!
Absolute masterclass.
breaks my heart.
I hope so too!
Many happy returns, 'La Clemenza'! Tomorrow, you'll be exactly 221 years old!
Absolutely stunning performance from one of my favourite mezzos with Joyce Didonato. Covent Garden must mount a production of La Clemenza for her.
Bravo!
Perfecto!!

@tysa888 really? is that possible in this role?
Atrocious miscasting!
