I am a Japanese. I recommend for western guests to eat Wagyu steak at the better (richer ) restaurant with Wasabi and Japanese salt. 神戸牛 Kobe gyu or 松坂牛 Matsuzaka gyu are very famous, But there are other delicious bland Wagyu in Japan like 飛騨牛 Hida gyu, 前沢牛 Maezawa gyu, 米沢牛 Yonezawa gyu in the lower price.. there are 40-45 brands in Japan in each orefectures. I saw many American guys have gone to the heaven at the first bite of Wagyu. They love meat. Sukiyaki , ShabuShabu, Yakiniku (Japanese BBQ) are very nice. If someone hope to cost saving to eat meat, I recommend NIku udon (thin sliced beaf and Udon nudle) or Katsu sandwitch. It will be 700-1200 yen in general.

I’ve had all of that, we were on a tight budget since it was a week long trip. I’ve been to Japan 3 times and experienced all the best food
