Congrats on your GTI! Very informative as I’m looking to get the same 380 s model. Turning off driver assists is a must as I rented a new BMW x3 on a trip and had to turn off lane assist rt away - very annoying when car tries to pull you back if it thinks you’re not supposed to change lanes. Again great review and hope you enjoy the car for years to come!
My 2024 GTI S came with an engine cover, I was surprised. I shut off lane assist within minutes. The automated braking when it thinks you're about to hit something is not only annoying, it's dangerous. I was changing lanes on the freeway at 70mph and I was close enough to another car that it slammed the brakes on as I neared the car in front of me causing me to almost lose control. Scared me to death. Just let me drive the car!
Man that is scary I was wondering if it would do that while driving at a faster speed I'm happy I turned it off when I did, hopefully anyone watching this video will see your comment and turn it off in their car ASAP!
Scary experience but you “lose” control and not “loose”. Similarly spelled words but completely different definitions. Unless some parts/bolts that’s “loose” in your car, that is another way you could “lose” control. Hope you get the difference.
Brodie 2024 are coming with engine covers now .... call your dealer i got mine i was supposed to be charged 65.00 but i made the sales department give me mine. I also decided to go with vw credit but the reason i found out they came with them is because i was just browsing car gurus and dealers have them on the car. The Mk8 GTI's progressive steering uses reduces the amount of lock required for parking and maneuvering at low speeds, while also providing a more dynamic response at higher speeds and on twisting roads
Bruh I hate the parking sensors I work at the vw dealer and every time we drive the car threw the wash it slams on the brakes because it sees the drive threw car wash things lol but the one way to prevent it from slamming on the brakes with out turning the feature off is go super slow and it will actually not stop u and will let u hit an object even 🤣

In all honesty it's easily the WRX, it's the most fun to drive and the best bang for the buck in my opinion, but as an all around great car I would say a 2019 Golf R is the best.
@@RaceCarFriendsman you’re killing me with all the WRX love but owning the GTI! My wife and I already own a Subaru Outback for daily driving, so I’m just looking for a toy to put in the garage! You think that’s the WRX?

@@lnt3ch It depends on what you're looking for to be honest, if you want to save the most gas and have a good grocery getter then it's the SI, if you want something that's decent on gas but a ton of fun with great tuning capability then WRX, and if you want something that has better gas mileage than the WRX but not as good as the SI with the least amount of space out of the two but is luxurious and smooth driving that also has great tuning potential then GTI.
I just got mine in December and it came with an engine cover. To turn on and off the "assists" you can click the button on the left stock on the end of it. Or you can click the Assist button in the center where the mode and clima button are. I have the SE so it has the Harmon Kardon system it "may" be better than the stock S stereo, it is way better than the lowest BMW stereo, but it's not the best I have had. I think the MK7 Fender stereo may have been better. There is a subwoofer in the spare tire area for the Harmon Kardon. And yeah, I was in a drive through when it thought I was too close to a car in front of me and slammed on the brakes itself and scared me, so I turned a lot of it off as well. But still such a fun car.
@@RaceCarFriends There was a recall on them because a set of them were "malformed" and would slide backwards onto the exhaust manifold/turbo and start on fire. So they just removed them all until they got the new ones in that were corrected. And I would think they would just allow people to go in and get the new one but who knows they may just go nah..
Also, I forgot to talk about the steering. The GTI has a quick variable steering rack. That means lock to lock is a lot less, so any input is more meaningful to the wheels. when you get closer to the lock either right or left it turns the wheels more there, but yeah, it's not as good for turning radius but it IS for performance driving. Smaller inputs off center produce better turn in. The focus ST had the same type of rack but its turning radius was even worse. I also believe your Type R has it but Honda was probably better about the "variable" part of it turning even more at the full right or left
Great video, I have owned both a STI and Wrx and mostly stuck to Japanese cars for reliability. What are your thoughts on long term reliabilty with the GTI? I love hatches and unfortunately the wife would need auto so the dsg is the only auto I am getting.

The steering wheel doesn't turn a lot because the MK8 has progressive steering. Also, nearly al european cars do 3 full turns lock-to-lock, rarely more

It seems like you're mixing up turning radius with steering wheel ratio/turns lock to lock. Your turning radius is the smallest circle your car can turn in. Steering wheel lock to lock has more to do with the steering ratio, meaning the smaller the ratio 10:1 vs 12:1 the faster the steering. Bad bad review. I've lived with a mk8 for 2 years and no issues at all
Nice that's awesome! Shout out to you brother.

And the winner is you! 🥇🏆🔵🔵🟣🟣🔴🔴🏁 FORD
Please, make yourself a script when you do a video. Instead of doing "I'm going to show you, but actually, oh but, and oh actually, ok now that, but acutally, ok, here's the point..."
Thanks I appreciate the advice but I prefer to speak from my head, and my heart, in real time so that my audience knows that everything I say is real and reflects exactly how I feel in that moment, I know there's a ton of other RUclipsrs that work off of scripts so I would suggest subscribing to their channels because I will never be one of them, eventually I will continue to get better at doing reviews organically so you're more than welcome to stick with us and see the progression.
@@RaceCarFriends Well, good on you for not letting an internet random person to tell you what to do. 👍
@@eyemastervideo Lol 👍
Blah blah blah. All things people already know. Do better than just clickbait.
