You can scrape me off the ceiling, I jumped hard because of that spark, haha
Scary as hell!
I've never seen a red tent cocktail game until this video. This was a fun and new type of repair challenge to watch. I also played Excitebike too many hours on end to count on Nintendo back in the day. Yet another great video!
RUclips is so funny, I’ve been making my way through Joe’s older videos, but I did not see this one until RUclips recommended this after I watched another video fixing a “red tent” for an arcade.
Wow, this solved a mystery. In 80s anime shows, you'd sometimes see characters sitting at representations of these arcade games, but nobody I know ever knew what we were seeing. We've never seen the real machine. Just figured it was the show being weird. No. They were trying to show THIS type of cabinet! Now it makes a lot more sense.
@Eric Belinc i've owned 2 of these..really not that rare..we had one at the pizza hut when i was a kid..check out my channel if ya wanna see more deals on rare machines and pinballs!
Believe it or not, I've actually seen a handful of these in California during the mid to late 80's
You were pretty close with the isolation transformer. Not a bad description overall. Isolation transformers are used in a lot of situations where there is a possibility of a chasis being live as it isolates the main supply completely from the secondary (load) side.
Looking forward to this one being restored. I've never actually seen one of these in real life.
They're getting much harder to find, we use to buy them pretty cheap 10 years ago but now not so much! Being Nintendo, they are pretty collectible, people adore Nintendo stuff.
I’ve done the “smoke test” at work. Spent hours looking for the reason why we were blowing a motor fuse. Finally doubled the fuse size then waited. We’ve been waiting about 8 years now. Lol!!!
haha, yeah sometimes it works out like that too :)
I have one of these in excellent shape!! Bought it years ago!! Both sides play Vs baseball!!
Very cool, I used to buy them all the time at auctions and even fairly cheap but they are harder and harder to come by now!
Looks like whoever changed the flyback and installed the cap kit didn't bother to clean the dust & dirt from around the anode cap on the Tube.. Also check to make sure the grounds from the tube are connected to the chassis. A missing ground wire will make the tube arc like that too.
The NES PPU has composite video output but the Nintendo VS. System (and PlayChoice) PPU has RGB video output. Before the NESRGB mod, people were using the arcade PPUs for RGB-modding NESs.
Those vs. machines were pretty cool! definitely a sought after cab for collectors!
Saw one of those in a pizza hut when I was a kid. It had goonies and excitebike.
I loved excitebike too. Great game for its time.
When I was a kid we only had a couple games and we loved Excitebike!
When I was a kid we only had a couple games and we loved Excitebike!
"I had the monitors the WHOLE TIME" - AH you got me!
"A whole 'nother video" - Exciting!
Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching Pez we'll see you on the next one!
Another enjoyable video thank you so much!
Thanks for watching, Clifford!
Bring on part 2 Ron! Really enjoyed that video, not seen that style cabinet before and the drama with that anode was great!
It's coming later today :)
Cool machines, the good ole Nintendo days....as always Ron thanks for taking us along for the repairs. And, that's nother video....LoL
Thanks TCB we appreciate you hanging out with us.
The first time I ever saw one of these was at a Chi Chi’s Restaurant. They had one in the bar section. One side had Vs. Super Mario Bros. Not sure what was on the other side. Great video as always! Looking forward to see it finished!
Coming soon!
Yay! I've been waiting for this after I spotted it in your last (not) pinball tables series :)
Also, I think I now know the correct way to play Excitebike, randomly press accelerate and clear the jumps with ease :)
I love some Excitebike, used to play that a lot on the NES that was one of the only games we had!
Oh yea thank you Joe´s :) 45 min of pure Joy!!! liove your video´s.... Cheers..
Thanks for hanging out with us Peter, we appreciate you watching! See you on the next one man!
There's a Dr Frankenstein who could really use those sparks :)
hahaha that's how you know they've got life in there somewhere :)
I really want one of those vs cabinets, or maybe I'll make one
They're pretty awesome....
This is unreal! You can finally play some nightmare on elm st comfortably with 4 players! 🤣 Seriously though, a really cool looking machine. 👍
Unfortunately they didn't make that one for this :) It's pretty cool though :)
I remember that the local Pizza Hut had one of these with Castlevania in it.
Nothing like repairing someone else's repair work. 👍😛
We're gonna get it!
Its charming thats for sure.
It's that cool Nintendo weirdness....
The service mode was also called purity. It allowed you to set the 3 color drives to get a pure white line. Then you know the colors are right. I don't know why though
inductive amp on the sound output. My old man start up his TVs (he fixed) from the back. He had a mirror to look at the picture while he did adjustments.
I think you are going to be proven right about the inductive amplification on the sound!
Haha - I thought you were going to be working on a BBQ at first and then with that spark I thought you might have been BBQ’d - what an ending to your great videos! Pleased you are ok but are you sure you want to bring this thing back to life 🤣🤣🤣
We're definitely going to bring it back :)
I do know you don’t post anything until you’ve finished the job 😂
Very cool and interesting as we didn't get stuff like this in the UK. You'll have it working fine in no time 👍
This looks alot like the stand alone Gumshoe cab I used to play on
I rather have a red tent than a play choice.
With the red tent you play two different games and play them all the way through.
But the play choice it give the game you choose a time limit.
We've got a playchoice here somewhere we're working on too we just haven't got it going yet!
Some decades ago i saw one of these in a Dairy Queen in central missouri.
Very cool, maybe they're still running it :)
Nice one Ron...I look forward to the next...cheers!
One of those where for sale here like 5-6 years ago, i think it went for like 1000 bucks.
They're starting to get fairly valuable, people love anything Nintendo.
Cool machine. Good video Ron.
I've never seen one of these before. I wasn't aware that this style of machine existed.
Serial Number 7453. I'm going to guess that they didn't make very many of them.
They're not super rare but you don't see them much anymore, a lot of these games like this that are a little bigger (this one is almost twice the size of a regular cocktail)... some of these bigger games were the first ones the operators threw in the dump.
It's so disappointing how half of these end up as poker machines :(
Lol ever seen what they do to midway touch masters they usually convert them to super Mario bros with a hacked rom lol so poker games become Nintendo and Nintendo games become poker lol so true
@@johnDingoFoxVelocity xD
@@johnDingoFoxVelocity wait i think i know a snack bar with one of those in em. i always thought it was creepy as fuck.
this fucking snack bar with no signs only a white door and has this greasy ass arcade machine lol.
you just gave me fucking ptsd seeing that early 3d cursed ass text.
This thing looks Like a Barbecue Grill lol
Yes it does :)
Heck that board is huge! Timestamp 16:40 or a tad earlier.
This one is smaller than most of the Atari boards :)
@@LyonsArcade Okay.. Perhaps it looks bigger on camera.
Stay safe and have a good week.
I remember these at my local Pizza Hut :)
They're pretty cool :)
@@LyonsArcade I don't remember what was on ours
I’d kill to have one of these
I no longer have it in my possession, don't kill me!
@@LyonsArcade Nah, the world needs arcade videos.
I can't help but wonder if we're going to discover some sketchy work done by whoever repaired it the last time. Bad enough they only installed a cap kit on one side, and possibly did it _wrong_ to boot. On the plus side, at least it's only _half_ broken, which is better than _all the way_ broken. 😃
Yup, it has signs of life :)
You should pitch your repairs to a tv network. This would make a great TV show. Maybe the network that did Pawn Stars.
They always want to make it fake...
@@LyonsArcade I forgot about that
Love these machines
Seems like Pizza Hut had a few of these. I’ve noticed several comments.
I believe they made a TON of these, operators loved them! You could swap the games out very inexpensively so they felt like they would keep earning since they could change the game... thank you for watching Austin!
Thanks Man! 👍👍
I wish they also made a red RV.
everyone, make sure anything you order offa' Amazon; that this arcade game restoration shop is mentioned as a referral!! you like watching these? ..then make 'em possible ad infinitum in this specific manner.
@@AiMR then that seems like the way to go, then: i forgot what i wuz instructed to do, 'cept for the Amazon portion.
looks like a bbq grill haha
Sanyo brand name now owned by a Chinese company.
About everything is right now. I expect that to change soon though :)
It was it called Hell's Kitchen
That's the one!
Now that's different
looks like a barbeque grill
Tint or tent
so if you plug in a pc monitor it will be upside down
It won't display on a PC monitor at all because the output is CGA and the PC monitors do VGA... but if you used a converter board to change that signal, the 'inverted' video isn't upside down, all the colors are reversed. It's the strangest thing you've ever seen... all the reds are green, all the blacks are white, etc.
Not much of a surface for beers though.
Nifty. 👍
