I discovered you in 2023. I’ve noticed many men my age, (25) actively pursuing their interests and trying to broaden their intellectual capacity. I don’t know if it’s the world around us, or the interest to simply be academically inclined. At any rate, I enjoy your perspectives and reviews. You have shown me J.R.R. Tolkien and I am forever grateful. Continue on I say! You are a master class example of a true scholar and mentor.
5:17 Dr. Guite I appreciate how you read poetry. I would love for you to do a bit on how to read poetry. Not just on how to scan a poem but how to give the poem tone and emotion like you do. It is a gift.
This is one of my favorite scenes in the book, and actually, even though they didn't recite the whole poetic section, I thought the extended edition of the movie handled this seen well. When Frodo asks Strider what happened to the woman of whom he is singing, he simply says, "She died." Those are two powerful words for those of who have read the poem and how it ends with "sorrowless". Also, I also have Peterson's Professor pipe. I'll have to light it tonight and raise a glass of Guinness to the Professor.
Though my heart medicine doesn't allow me to enjoy a glass, I shall certainly smoke a bowl. It has been over 30 years since I read the books, I have been relying on the movies, it is past time to raid my bookcase and enjoy the written word once again. To the Professor! Thank you for another pleasant visit.
I love listening to people that love Tolkien as much as me read from and talk about these incredible books. I think I’ve read the trilogy nearly every year since I first read them around age twelve and I’m now thirty. They truly are magical
I love listening to Malcolm. I'd really love to hear about something rarely discussed but I think was a tremendous accomplishment of Tolkien's. Not only did he create an entire World along with it's History but he created, and used, at least in part, 5 or 6 different languages along with their written characters.
Excellent as always! Thank you for taking the time to make these videos for us! Feels like you're talking specifically to each of us, like if we were there. God bless!
Bless you, and praise the Lord for the professor. We indeed need poetry and music to lift our hearts above the darkened shadows that often lurk along our pathway in this world.
Thank you sir, so good to hear from you. I have been enjoying your videos so much. A light in a darkening world to me. To the professor, indeed. Warmest regards, James Smith
Thank you for showing the comparison of the Beren and Luthien story to the story of Christianity. “A deeper reflection of the grace of God“. Excellent!
You mention a nightingale, I was out earlier on this January day and a robin was perched on the telegraph wire, it has a not dissimilar song and really was very beautiful, it made my day.
Cheers to the professor. Good morning from Las Vegas. Nothing like waking up and having some quiet time with my coffee and watching your videos. Looking forward to a pipe this morning when the sun shines over the mountains and just being still in the moment listening to the sounds of the birds. Giving thanks that I’m able to see another day.
When my mom read this aloud, on our way from Ohio to Maryland to see family, my sisters and I entreated her to skip the poems and songs and get back to the story. The fault is ours (mostly mine), but what a mistake we made! Thank you for helping me understand more of the magnificent English recorded by The Professor!
Sherlock Holmes' birthday is Saturday January 6th, his creator author Sir Conan Doyle has nowhere in his works mentioned it explicitly, yet, the detective's birthday is celebrated by fans all over the world on January 6. The year he is believed to have been born is 1854.
If you have never read the Geste of Beren and Luthien, you simply must. 3,000 plus lines of total wonder. To me, the most crucial of all the professor’s works… “A daughter had he, Luthien”
Maybe strangley, this made me think what a role a father plays. Sang all the songs in the hobbit. What a legend. And look now, im reaping the benefits. Thanks for the readings.
We talk of dark times now, but it's impossible to comprehend what Tolkien and his generation must have gone through. This from the Preface to Lord of the Rings: “By 1918 all but one of my close friends were dead”.
Ever since I first time read this book many years ago, I have wondered what this poem would sound like as a song (since it was described as a song in the book). A few years ago, to my great surprise, I found such a song, if you haven't heard it, I recommend you to listening to it. ruclips.net/video/11_aneHVaz8/видео.html
A professor is never late or early, but arrives precisely when he means to. Thankyou Malcolm!
and thanks for your fine rendition of the song! Do post a link to t here
A gentleman and a scholar indeed!
Yes indeed

I agree we should not lose what we have forgotten

Well said. I literally raised a Guinness to the professor while watching this. 🍻 Cheers!
Thank you very much for being a light in the darkness.
We desperately need these tales indeed. Thank you for keeping the heart and beacon fires lit. Cheers Professor!

I'm celebrating with some Capstan Blue this evening. A day late as well. Great to share a pipe and a poem with you!

It is always nice to see a new video from you pop up!
So glad I stumbled across this channel.
Enthralled by your videos. Cheers from Virginia.
Anyone how knows and loves Tolkien like this is a friend of mine.
👍👍
Thank you for raising a glass and sharing the poem. May it help all as we deal with the present darkness.
Love the unacknowledged cough from the "visitor" 2 1:30 ish. Thank you Malcolm - thank you long suffering camera person.
thanks, that's Maggie, my wife!
I am reminded that I used to read to my child every night….it was special time…..unfortunately I can’t remember why or when we stopped doing this…..
Thank you sir, I needed this after a rough day like today. Always delight in your video.
You're not the only one who finds solace in this place.
@@charlespayne2002Then may you find solace here always and perhaps, if you are the type, whenever you light up a pipe.

An excellent tribute to a great man and storyteller. For Tolkien. To the Professor. 🍻

God bless you, sir. My heart was certainly lifted by this video.
Wonderful, Dr. Guite! You DID bring to us a ray of light amidst the ever present darkness. For that, I raise a glass and say; “The Professors!”😊❤️🙏
Good Morning Professor 😊Awesome video👌🏽Love the content 😍 Medicine to the soul 🤗 Have a blessed day 🙏🏽 Greetings from South Africa 🇿🇦
Hello fellow saffa
A lovely tribute to a great man. P. S. 1892 for Tolkien’s birthday 🎉

Lovely to see you dear Malcom Guite and a dram of Bruichladdie Classic Laddie to the professor. Kindest regards, SF
Strangely, my first exposure to Tolkien was The Hobbit as well. Was a gift from one of my Elementary-School teachers.
Magical moments ❤
So beautiful…a little bit of starlight, and hope. To the professor, who has been read by all five of my children; again and again.

You are so wonderful. I love your videos. God bless you and yours, sir!
Thank you kindly
You’re at least letting me dream the dream that I’ve always wanted to dream

"The Eternal choosing to die". Wow. That's quite profound. I never made those parallels or thought of Jesus' sacrifice in that sense.
Indeed! To the Professor! 🍷
Thank you so much for these videos.
Great video!
Wonderful! The Professor!
While watching this I felt compelled to peruse through J.R.R. Tolkien's book, "Unfinished Tales of Numenor & Middle Earth."
Lovely.
Just a lovely poem and it was greatly enjoyed. I will smoke a bowl to the Poressor later this evening.
Thank you so much for your videos.
This was delightful. Thankyou.
Thank you for sharing…. Loved the song
Just discovered your channel, so relaxing and informative , a pleasure to watch and hear you speak.

Professor Guite I am very curious to know your thoughts on the Hobbit films and LOTR as well? Maybe you discussed it already and I haven’t seen it
I think the LOTR films are quite good, but the Hobbit films are overblown and dreadful
😊❤

Malcolm, what are you 3 most favorite pipe tobaccos? May the Lord bless you! 😊🙏🏻❤️
Kendal Black Cherry, Deluxe Navy Rolls, Sherlock Holmes
I’d like to know your thoughts on why The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings has remained so popular? Maybe a future video?
Didn’t now Father Christmas 🎅 was a Tolkien fan 🫡
I keep looking for Gimli’s axe hidden in the corner.
I did a little recitation of Bilbo’s poem about Strider to commemorate Professor Tolkien’s birthday. And of course smoked a pipe and had a dram.
On the Tolkiens’ gravestone, there is written “John-Beren” and “Edith-Luthien.”
Lovely! Is there anything better than Tolkien?
Have a bowl of Black Cavendish!
January 3 is my daughter's birthday ❤
Nice to see you, sir! I wish you would tell us what tobacco you are smoking. Maybe you did and I missed it.
Can you be my grandad? 😁
I love your reading of these poems, but they are from the "Fellowship of the Ring", Not the "Two Towers". Anyhow, to The Professor!
I think I said 'fellowship'
@@MalcolmGuitespell The description says "Two Towers"
What Peterson pipe are you smoking?
If I'm not mistaken, a peterson sherlock holmes professor
Is that Jack Black?
Why in the fk is this channel popping up all of a sudden ? Actual question.
Why doesn’t he cut his hair and shave?
It looks kinda cool tbh a bit like an elderly Dwarf
He’s a true scholar. I dare say his beard and mane give him prestige.
The Professor!
