The think I admire the most about your videos, including this and many others, is the way you always talk about chess, like you can tell you really love chess just by the way you speak, that’s why i watch your videos, they are really inspiring and make you try to love chess just as much as you do. Thank you so much for this kind of videos!
Every time I watch an Eric Rosen video I go to lichess after to play the lines he showed, they never come up and then I forget about them until the next Eric Rosen video. The cycle of life sure is a beautiful thing.
We have the same word in Swedish for the knight (springare) and it's another word for horse/steed, no jumping involved, other than horse jumping of course ;)
Some people even when writing English use S for knight. This is so that they can reserve N for nightrider. I've seen this in the world of chess problems, where there's a subgenre of problems with unorthodix pieces. I don't really see it in the worid of chess games.
I haven't played chess since middle school and Eric Rosen got me back to loving and understanding even more about chess. I now have 2000+ lichess rating and still continue to win games with traps I learn from your channel.
Hi Eric! I know I'm early so I'm hoping you see this; you make the most amazing chess content on the platform! You're so entertaining and wholesome, and I love watching your videos. Thank you for the hours of chess entertainment!
17:30 S is for the "skoczek" with means a knight in Polish leanguage ("skoczek", literally means "jumper". The funnu fact is that we often call a knight just "koń" with means "horse". And it's the most popular name for this piece, widely used by amateur players. But we can't use it in chess notation because letter K is taken by "król" with means a king. That's why pro players are used to the term "skoczek"). Greetings from Poland.
The counter trap that I discovered for white in the Eungland gambit line is to play nc3 on move 3 and most people go through the whole line and you just take back the queen with your knight
Just as Miguel Najdorf (IM) had a variation named after him, Eric Rosen (IM) has a shit load of variations in the Russian Game / Stafford Gambit, at the very least. Strong IMs are creative as hell!
hi, can anyone tell me why instead of going to d4 in the last move of the straford gambit line he wouldnt just play bishop to f3? does it just not make any significant difference?
I wonder whether I should go on using the king's indian defense as a main weapon against d4... white's pawn advances can be so frustrating to counter. And next thing you know, you're lacking in space, you're missing too many tempi, and you end up being at the wrong end of a mating attack. Once all the latent aggressive potential that seemed to exist previously in the position wanes, it can be so tough to get counterplay with this defence!...
With the england gambit trap I like to have them en passant so if the don't take it I still have a manageable game if they do take I play knight to f6 then castle and take out the Bishop and the other knight and then they'll be like well might as well take
In the spirit of christmas, can you make it so your opponent has a bishop pinned by a rook on an open file and title the video "bishop resting on an open file" in reference to the nat king cole song "merry Christmas to you"
for anyone who wants a trappy line against KID there's a line that can be reached via many transpositions, d4 Nf6 Bf4 g6 Nc3 Bg7 e4 d6 e5 dxe5 dxe5 Qxd1 Rxd1 and I believe Nh5 is the only move that doesn't lose immediately for black (stockfish gives like +0.8 or so and second move is +3.5) - the point is we are planning to play Nd5 and Nc7 winning the rook. I recommend looking at this with an engine and opening database to figure out some of the tougher lines, but it has a very high win rate and most KID players will reach this position via some move order. edit: notice that we're also threatening mate at some point with Nxc7+ and Rd8#, in fact the most common line on lichess is Nh5 (which is the best move for black) Nd5 and then about 50% of the time black blunders mate in 2 by taking our bishop on f4: Nxf4 Nxc7+ Kf8 is forced and Rd8#
The real fun actually starts at 8:02 after Qh4. White desperately tries to save the position playing h3 and destruction continues with N×f2. If Qf3,another desperate try from white,N×h3+ with check delivers a beautiful forced mate in 7,if R×f2,Q×f2+ by check followed by Bg4 is also beautiful
FYI Eric, the person who wrote Sd5 was German. S is for Springer, the German word for Knight. I like calling them springers because Springer spaniel dogs are lunatics who like jumping through hedges and into ponds. 🙂
At least the part where white thinks he has fully stopped the attacks in Stafford, that line should be named Rosen variation. That's the least fide or whatever could do, for Eric's contribution to this whole gambit.
Hey Eric! I have a question about the stafford. What if after they push the e pawn then you move the knight to e4, then they play d4. What do you do then?
That (e5 followed by d4) is the gambit refutation which Eric showed in one of his Stafford gambit videos. There are some other lines which refute the gambit as well but this is, by far, is the cleanest line.
0:03 Eric prepared for this question his whole life
That was like asking "Do people in Hell want ice water"? I'm surprised Eric didn't whip out his Nahkmanson.

17:36 S is short for Springer, which is the german term for knight
Springer == Jumper
@@richardwitt6243 true, Springer doesn't literally mean knight, but just refers to the same piece

Yeah, german knights are "jumpers" and their bishops are "runners" (läufer)

14:36 it’s still fine for white if you block with the bishop (Bf3) instead of going to d4, giving back a piece but avoiding the scary long castle
You can just take the bishop with the pawn, and after rook takes you can still play devastating moves , the king is so vulnerable in that position
