- Buffalo needing a win to clinch the divisional title and home field in the plalyoffs. Miami was also playing for playoff position and if they win this one they would have had a good shot at getting a bye also. However Buffalo had lost Jim Kelly to a knee injury the week before in a game I've already posted. So future Indianapolis Colts coach Frank Reich is leading the Bills.
Spoilers: This would be Reich's final regular season win as a Bills player. He would win 2 playoff games in 1992. But he wouldn't win another regular season game as a Bills QB. Thurman Thomas would put up great numbers even though he was dealing with leg injuries. Marino was really hounded by the Buffalo defense most of the game and really couldn't muster that much till the final quarter when the game was decided.
I love these 90 nfl games.
When the credits are rolling over your drive, you're probably done. I love the lack of subtlety in an old broadcast.
Damn, this game was for the #1 seed in the afc!
Were taking back the division starting this year!
Should’ve kept the video rolling for the goalposts coming down.
Reich would have been a starter on many other NFL teams.
Man Reich was great.
Could always count on him when Kelly got hurt, and had to miss some games.
I wish they showed the fans tearing down the goalposts
Buffalo HAD to win this game. Otherwise, Miami would have had H2H tiebreaker and the Bills would have had to win at RFK AND hope for a Colts upset of Miami
Bob costas with the nfl in that time.
Dan marino one of the dolphins great QB.
The goat of dolphins qbs, and miami's last great qb
@@Fireyninjadog and will never have a great qb again
Jim kelly getting injured a lot.
Im currently reading “American Terrorist”, about Tim McVeigh, and on page 65, it says that Tim took a brief trip home before being sent to the Middle East, and attended this game. He even got to rush the field and help tear down the goal posts. Just a little tidbit of useless info for y’all.
Then Buffalo beat them again in the divisionalll playoffs that year.
The score should have been 35-14 if not for the drop by Reed and the drop by Lofton that was a little high but that should have been a penalty where he got grabbed by the defender as well!
Agreed-The score should have been worse than what it was. The Bills outplayed the Dolphins from the start.
After all these years, still dislike Oliver. Dirty player. Always hit you on the ground.
10:12 James Lofton TD
This proves that Reich was a way better quarterback than Kelly here.
Reich did make better decisions. But Kelly had the stronger arm AND a stronger will to win. The Bills were a good team with Reich starting, but they don't reach the Super Bowl without Kelly.
What are you kidding? 👌
Uh oh! Somebody can't handle the truth! #triggered
Not triggred just know that they would make the SB with Reich and would have gone on to win those four SB's!
Not to mention that signing Jim Kelly in 1986 saved the Bills franchise. Sellouts became more common. No disrespect to Frank Reich in any way, but Jim Kelly turned out to be a more marketable player - Something the Bills so desperately needed in the mid-80's because they were on the brink of leaving Western NY. I KNOW! Initially, Kelly did not want to play in Buffalo when he was drafted by the Bills back in '83. But Kelly's (and a couple of other Bills') experience in the run-and-shoot offenses of the USFL turned out to be a godsend for the Bills after the USFL folded in '86. Then enter Bill Polian, who finally convinced Kelly that Buffalo was the place to be......And Kelly had the persona, something Reich lacked.
Dan marino never went to the Superbowl in his career.
Yeah he did in 1984/5
Yeah he did.
He went once and lost
