  • I traveled to Kauai solo for a few days to test my spearfishing abilities. I met up with @unkolearnuhow who put me on a few nice parrotfish (uhu) and a peacock grouper (roi).
I took one of the parrotfish back with me to Oahu to cook for my family. Parrotfish are delicious fish, but they are also great for the reef. When possible, take the females to help the males around to fertilize the eggs.

Love it! Great quality footage throughout the whole vid, and that looked like an excellent meal.
Are you able to drop the recipe for that mayo mix? I’d love to be able to steal it to use on snapper.

Thanks! Pretty simple, just mayo, black pepper, garlic salt, and some paprika if you want some color and kick

Looked like a bad ass trip. That parrot fish looked fantastic prepared in that way. Do the banana leaves act to envelop the fish in steam while it cooks to keep it from drying out/burning?

Thanks! The leaves give a bit of flavor too

Great video! Though, don't Roi have ciguatera poisoning? Ive heard many rumors about people dying from eating them later on which is why theyre invasive (no one keeps them to eat them but rather to kill them). Tight lines and I hope we get another reef video again!

The Roi do have cig depending on the location. I ended up not eating it because I was with family and didn’t want to expose them to unnecessary risk. From the area I dove, it likely would have been ok

@@castandspear Ah I see. Nonetheless its great that you removed those two big ones. You practically saved thousands of native reef fish by doing that so kudos to you sir.
