JUSTIN ALLGAIER FILLED IN FOR KYLE LARSON IN THE COKE 600; HIS PRESS CONFERENCE WAS AN ABSOLUTE GEM

  • Justin Allgaier said he got so worked up over having to drive the 5 car in today's Coca-Cola 600 that her nearly threw up. He was the backup driver all along, in the long list of contingencies Hendrick Motorsports and Kyle Larson didn't want to have to use but were forced too when mother nature rained on their 200 lap parade in Indianapolis.
    The rain delay in Indy kept Larson there to race the Indy 500 with plans to make it to the Coke 600 to at least complete the NASCAR event. Ultimately mother nature defeated Larson on the NASCAR side as well, as he didn't get a single lap in the Coke 600.
    Rain drenched the track and the race was declared official with 151 laps remaining. Justin spoke to the media about an hour before the decision was made to end the race.

    NASCAR had it's popularity questioned Sunday as it had to go head to head with the Indy 500, which drew almost a 4.0 rating to NASCARs 2.0. Since both were on linear TV fans had free access to both races and now I see why Indy car is often on NBC and NASCAR is on FS1, and even PIckleball and golf are broadcast on Fox linear channels. Ratings will plummet next year when this race goes to streaming and fans have to pay to watch it.

    • @bc7013
      @bc7013 4 месяца назад

      You can't compare the INDY 500 to the Coca Cola 600 and you can't compare access to NBC vs. access to FS1. If I am not mistaken, NASCAR regularly destroys the Indycar in the ratings.

Obviously he's not some driver whore bouncing around team to team, but a real decent guy enjoying his employment at JRM. He's content, just needs to have some luck for the "last" race of the year. You can have a solid year, best of the rest, and lose the championship in the last race. That's his luck.

    The whole situation seems odd to me. I know the substitute driver thing if a driver has an emergency or gets sick an alternative driver is accepted. But a fill in driver can run 400 miles then the "star" driver can hop in at the end and everything is legit? Seems like that could be abused. Does the car, manufacturer/team and driver or both drivers get scored and get points.
