    I am so grateful that artists are addressing this issue, many of my friends both artists and non-artists have been saying that it is okay to take an AI-generated drawings/character, draw them in your own style, and claim them as your own. I have always been confused by their perspective because AI-generated characters are essentially just a collection of existing character elements. While artists typically create original characters by combining different elements they admire from existing characters, people, or objects, at least they put in the effort unlike AI. Thank you for sharing this video

    It is okay to be inspired by AI and it is okay to use AI as using reference to humanly draw something in digital software and paper.
    One of things i like to do to AI images is to tear it apart as I tear apart public domain images of animals and my own photos of mechanical parts to make collage art that is remix of human and AI images together. But what you think of this?

    • @himerosvt
      @himerosvt  Месяц назад +3

      @@lillyreilly4659 it’s perfectly okay to be inspired by AI^^ Much like how you tear apart public domain images, you’re tearing apart AI and training yourself to create something new. Collage and remixing are very valid, since you are creating something new, though adding directly from AI images blurs the line a bit since the work is unethically sourced (i.e., scrapped from images without permission for training)

    This is actually a really good take on it. Ai will most likely always be some sort of grey area when it comes to stealing, sadly, which sucks. A lot. Great video!

      It shouldnt be like that for long (in canada). The federal court is being asked to declare only humans can be considered authors under the copyright act. And creators and publishers are asking Ottawa to pass no "black box" laws, meaning AI companies must disclose their training data (though probably not their methods) (im also not sure if im using the tern black box correctly, its what ive heard it called in the news)

    I kid you not, I saw an "animation meme" with just AI-generated images of a generic red-haired anime guy "OC". It was very clearly AI with poses most likely taken from actual anime art people made. The creator said they only used AI because they weren't good with digital art after a commenter told them to pick up a pencil. It's very sad people resort to easy means when they could try something new.

    I'm going to be honest here while I generally agree with the main standpoint a lot of other artists have with AI , I have a hard time figuring out if your talking about directly publishing or selling AI while claiming it as your own or gathering ideas from AI images and remixing it into something new, I'm unsure if I'm just this stupid to have your point fly over my head but im just going to express my opinion here as someone who also enjoys drawing (mostly as a hobby I play and study for fun and personal progress)
    about 'stealing from AI" tbh I guess you can kinda call it unethical since even in a different art style it would still be technically copyright infringement if I were to word it, kinda like redrawing someone else art and claiming it as your artwork as if you had the idea made on your own (though AI does make it more confusing with taking from multiple different sources for its training), but I would argue that taking ideas and concepts from AI images is not that different to how we humans (or cupids) make up our own ideas since our ideas have always been a mixed of familiar memories in our head to form what we believe is 'new' , not a neurological expert so don't word me on that I'm just taking this from trivia that I believe to have heard before and from my own personal experiences. hell even outside of studying art I see people use references quite heavily for their artwork with photograph for posing , would that count as copyright infringement since the original photographer may not have consented to their photograph to be used for an artist to draw out of? I get all the fire that is happening about AI and I understand why many artists express negatively with this new fourth Industrial Revolution but lets not forget that we humans often take ideas together to form something else original , you can watch those 'how to find your art style' videos to see my point and the famous quote "good artists copy, great artists steal"
    generally outside of that long paragraph I agree with most points especially with artists' stealing back' when they are just redrawing what is already stolen , though at the same time taking ideas and referencing concepts from AI images is not that any different to an artist referencing Pinterest photographs for posing in their artwork.

    • @himerosvt
      @himerosvt  Месяц назад +2

      @@emmy5914 thanks for joining in on the conversation!! My main point is that it is unethical to directly publish and sell AI to others as it steals from artists. Moreover, it is okay to reference other photos and works of art, so long as it is either for 1) a study (no money made), and/or 2) reference pose (i.e., gathering shape and form). Making a direct copy and reference of a work is generally bad if you claim it as your own. Like you said, artists will draw inspiration from multiple sources-life, paintings, photos, memories. I don’t believe it’s unethical to use AI as a reference, but i do think it’s a hindrance to learning.
      One of the things I love about social media is that we get to learn other viewpoints that we wouldn’t consider ourselves. I had a blast reading your point of view on the subject. Thanks for a little bit of insight and watching the video :)

    • @emmy5914
      @emmy5914 Месяц назад

      @@himerosvt well thank you for clarifying little confused me here , though I wouldn't consider AI to be a hinderence in referencing (I don't think we should even try study from AI??) at least when it comes to making a general map for what my next new oc outfit will be like, after all despite the amalgamations and genericness of the AI images they are reflection on human ideas , a lot of artists themselves even professional ones have been criticized for being too generic or unoriginal beforehand.
      thank you for responding too at best it can give a general (albeit a little distorted) map for outfits or just for experimental fun, have a good day !

    Ai generated content is like 3d printing or proxies, its a low tier cheap option to be able to get into something new and make friends in a community that looks fun. Thats the reason I picked up ai generated, also the same reason I picked up pixel art with MS Paint seeing sprite comics in 2008 or any other hobby I have. I'm always upfront, I mostly do ai generated content as the novelty is fun, I'm never gonna be a professional, I do things as a form of expression, drive, shitpost, and to kill time. Ai content kind of got me to learn video and image editing, which I'm now hoping to get better at. Insulting ai generated content creators or painting the idea that they have no past history or hate artists doesn't discourage the hobby. Hearing people trash ai artists really does remind me of back in the day people telling me the same things like " Pixel art isn't real art " or bringing up cause I didn't draw it on paper and scan it, it doesn't count. The way people just got used to full digital artists and tablets being the norm and stopped treating it like a taboo will be how ai generated images will be. As long its upfront and labeled, it shouldn't be a problem.

    Turns out that when you don't defend IP rights of other common folk, your own become weaker.
    Nothing about individual brush strokes carry "soul". What is outside of the search space of the current approach to text-to-image is intent - anything that requires more than a surface level labeling of the training image.
