Having grown up in St. Louis I am familiar with all the locations here. And with bustling, dress-uppy downtown St. Louis as it was. And particularly Gaslight Square, where I hung out in my late teens and early 20s. I particularly lament the loss of the county and rural lines, which didn't run on streets but on rights-of-way in the woods to Creve Coeur Lake, to Ferguson, to Kirkwood. That was the prime experience! My dad drove streetcars when I was a kid so I rode free!
I totally remember these streetcars going up and down the tracks behind my house on West Belle back in the 60's. They had a turn around station at Hodiamont off of Page. I also remember those street lights, too. So many sites in this film clip I can remember as a child.
Very nice streetcars, and quite interesting to see the different approach in constructing them you took in the US (quite heavy and fast, in contrast to the more "agile" vehicles in Europe). Sadly my city scrapped it's tram network in 1987 (however, we still have the world's oldest monorail). Thanks for sharing this video.
That location is where Lindell Blvd branches off from Olive st. The streetcar stays on Olive headed for Taylor St. Where it either went to the University route, the Delmar route or out to Hodiamont.
Greetings waynebrasler Listen, I have a question for you since I'm from St. Louis originally. These streetcars were before my time as well. Anyway, my question is..., the scene where the streetcar turns a diagonal corner angle once the light changes green, what street is that? I've seen those buildings but can't remember where they are cause i know at least one of those buildings still stands, I just can't recall its exact location!
Yes and we replaced them with freeways that are constantly jammed, a Missouri legislature that doesn't support transit, and a massive budget crisis that nearly cost all of the current bus routes (including mine). Ah, can't wait till the next massive oil shortage makes people thing logically again.
I don´t know why was USA so stupid and deleted it´s tram systems. And replaced them by cars. Trams were ecological, space efficient and nice. I´m happy I´m living in tram oasis in Central Europe.

Removing these trams from our cities was/is a CRIMINAL act

That's sad they died. I love PCCs even thou they are from before my time.
A nice trip in history. What's the song playing in the video?
Somehow, these videos make St. Louis look HUGE.
Thanks for your comment. The music is "Jupiter" from THE PLANETS by Gustav Holst.
My dad bought me my first camera from that shop!
Greetings waynebrasler
