I'm in my early 60s, I've had many different types of animals in my life since birth. My dad absolutely adored animals. I don't recall learning these things discussed in this video from him as I grew up. I guess observing his interactions is a form of learning as opposed to being verbally taught.
I've always done these with every cat I've had the honor of being chosen by them. I even had cats hold off giving labor until I was home with them. I know they are able to do that up to 30ish hours. I always made sure my time away was limited and even took time off work when I knew things were getting close.
New subscriber, here. Looking forward to more videos. I know I'm 2 months after this came out, so I don't suspect you will be reading this comment.

My daughter took a picture of me a few years ago when I was sick in bed sleeping, all 3 of our rescue cats were there, one on me and the other 2 on each side, she posted it with the caption "Do you think they know she's sick?" So sweet, staying with me. They've all moved on to the next realm. Such beautiful little souls ❤

My husband died quietly at home and for the 2 months before his death, the 2 of them took turns lying on his pillow and at his feet. The night he quietly died, they lay beneath his bed until I told them it was ok to leave. They loved him dearly

I have 6 cats in my house. Every morning between 5-7 am one by one they take turns at different times to come tap me on my face. I always reach up to pet them and say a few words. Two of my cats will paw at me wanting under the cover with me. One gets on the left and the other on my right and the others lay with me at my feet. All of my cats are rescues and have been fixed.

I’m really grateful I heard this last statement. Our cat recently passed after twenty years as part of our family. In her final month, she tried so hard to hang on. On her last day, we held her close and told her it was okay, we told her how sorry we were that she was sick and that her time had come. We all told her we loved her and that she had been such a good girl. In those final moments, she looked truly at peace. I would like to think she left us knowing everything was ok and that we still loved her so much 😢💔

I had a black cat which was diagnosis with terminal cancer of the throat. She was 13 years old. I had heard that sometimes if you give a sick cat a lot of extra love - more than usual - they can heal. So, I poured on extra affection. Four months later we went back to the vet. The cancer was gone. She lived 6 more years.

Every time I'm sick, my Tom cat sleeps close to me. During the night I will geel either his whiskers on my face or his cold slightly wet nose 😂. In those moments I know he's checking on me. It sounds funny but it makes me feel safe, someone is watching out for me, guarding me. As soon as I'm fit again, he'll sleep in his usual spots. He has now become my warning signal. When he starts to sleep close to me, I know something is not right, and I check my health more often. Usually it's a cold or something simple. But sometimes it's more serious and he is always correct with his warnings. He's a good boy, a very special good boy.

Aw, man, that last part got me all choked up. I had three pass. Two lived great lives to 19; then a feral we took in was only 3 and he had FIV and brain cancer. We had to put him down five months after we took him in. It was heartbreaking. All this cat wanted was love. When he ate, he lifted his head so you could pet him as he's eating. I'd read to him in bed every night. He loved to cuddle. He was a beautiful long-haired orange one. Rest in peace, Bennie. We will see you some day on the other side. 💔😿

Yeah I bond hard with them too. After my first boy died, I swore never again. Hurts too much. However, the universal cat distribution system had other plans for me and so I continue to share in the love they have to offer. And as hard as it is when they pass, it's worth all the good times I've had with them.

Same here, I said never again. And yet, another gentle soul has once again touched my heart and is sleeping peacefully next to me right now (I love her so). Is there a human age where it's no longer safe or acceptable to take on another? I'm currently 61 and wondering if she might truly be my last. I would be afraid of not being able to provide a forever home due to my own death.

I have found that many cats tire of our non- stop petting, the hand always moving. Yet, they enjoy closeness, so I stop moving my hand and simply keep my quiet hand touching them, resting quietly. They stop being edgy and calmly accept closeness and affection. The key is to stop moving your hand.

I have one cat that hates being touched during the day but is very affectionate just before sleeping beside me. I have another cat that can't get enough petting, which can be irritating at times. Both are neutered females. Then, there's the male cat, who is the boss, but is the most loving of all. He guards me everywhere I go and cries like a baby when I leave the house. I am going to use the strategy suggested here for when I leave. Thank you for all these tips.

mine was that way.. in winter id always make a fre in the fireplace and sit on a pillow on the floor in front ofthe fire.. i have a coffee table with cubbies in it on wheels.. perfect for me to roll up in front of me and work on my computer or watch a game.. mister kitty always would crawl in one of the cubbies and hang is foot outto touch my leg.. if I petted him all the time, he would leave and go to another room.. wasnt long till i figured out if I left him untouched he would hang with me all evening by the fire.. those nights i didnt over=pet him, he would follow me to bed.. he knew when t was bedtime as the fire would be nearly burnt out and id close the fireplace doors.. he would already be on my bed (wait9ng to go uder the covers with just his nose out)when i came from brushing my teeth.. the nights where I had pet him till he left for the couch.. he often didsnt follow me to bed,

My sweet 14 year old baby girl had bone cancer in her jaw. When she stopped eating I could see in her eyes that she was ready to cross the rainbow bridge. The night before we took her in to the vet, I was reclining in my chair, and she crawled onto my chest, and buried her face in my neck, and I knew she was saying her goodbye. The next morning we took her in, and I held her as she crossed. As much as it hurt, I know letting her go was the ultimate act of love I could offer her.

My older male cat that I dearly loved was getting so thin. I took him to the Vet and he checked him out. His kidneys were in the process of shutting down. There was nothing that could be done, and he was suffering, so I made the decision to have him put to sleep. It was a hard decision for me to make, but it needed to be done. I was holding him when the Vet gave him the shot. He took one of his front paws and reached up and touched my face. That started me crying. This happened over 10 years ago, and it affects me to this day. I now have 2 cats. One of them sleeps with me at night, the other one crawls onto my chest when I am watching RUclips videos. If I outlive my mate, I for see getting a few more. I am a 78 year old retired mechanic. I have a home shop, and my cats are definitely at ease in my shop with me.

My cats live in a musical environment. One thing that’s helped them a lot has been “their” songs. I created a song for each of several cats. (Others are still waiting for their songs, but I improvise for them.) When I sing a cat’s song, chances are that the cat I’m singing for will stand up, preen a little, and start purring. She or he may strut over to me, or just strut around a little. It’s a moment not just of identification, but announcing to all the cats that this one is here and important. They love their songs. The songs help them at the vet, too. When I sing their song softly, they resist the vet less and make it easier to poke a pill down their throat, or worse. Some cats have a ritual monologue, in which I tell them the things they are good at and the cats they “take care of.” Each cat has something that we do that’s theirs. With 17 cats taken care of daily, it’s a huge responsibility leaving not much time per cat, so I try to make it the best time they’ll experience that day. When I practice piano about half of the cats gather around the grand to listen. They’ve established beds they curl up in - these don’t rotate much; each defends its place. Some even have favorite pieces of music - the overall favorites being nocturnes by Chopin and Allemandes by Bach.
In general, I concur with all your points. To describe them collectively, I’d say it’s about giving them personal attention. About making them feel like they belong, and that they are a part of our den. They turn to me in moments of need or stress. How I react to them sets their mood, they look to me as the ultimate guide to how much we should worry. 😸 And those with a song? It’s music to their ears.

Candy was born in our garage & was not a lap cat except with my son on occasion. I was the only one home and went to the garage, started the motorcycle and turned it around in the garage to leave . As I approached the open door to exit, Candy came up to me and gave a polite meow . In 19 1/2 years she had never done that. She never acted different in her routine except for that. I had an errand of no real consequence. I returned 25 minutes later and she was curled ‘asleep’ centered on a pile of autumn leaves about three feet in diameter. It was her last “nap”. I was shocked. She came to me with the motorcycle running as I approached the door to exit , , to say Goodbye. And I was clueless. If I had suspected, I would have held her till she passed……..

Lost me at the end, about cats dying. I get so bonded to the awesome angels in cat bodies who I've adopted, that they are literally human to me. Something inside me dies when my special buddy dies. A big chunk of me dies too. But you know what? Those adopted kids will be waiting for me in Heaven.

Yeah I bond hard with them too. After my first boy died, I swore never again. Hurts too much. However, the universal cat distribution system had other plans for me and so I continue to share in the love they have to offer. And as hard as it is when they pass, it's worth all the good times I've had with them.

It was just over a year ago that our boy cat died from renal failure. I will never forget the moment that turned out to be our last together. He came into my bedroom and just sat at the foot of my bed, just within an arm's reach. We just shared those quiet few minutes before he got up and reached his head toward me, head bunting my hand, and then left.
A few years earlier, he was having respiratory problems that made it difficult for him to purr. He still loved spending time with me, but when he started purring, he became uncomfortable and would retreat to his bed under the coffee table. I would stay in the room for a while to let him know he was still loved. I had no idea what I was doing then was actually beneficial for him healthwise. It just felt right. It might have also helped that my sister, who was actually the cat mom, made some changes to his food.

I think it's not only that they know how hurt we'll be when they leave us - I think it's also that they love us so much that THEY don't want to leave US. I have three cats now, but three years ago, I lost BB8. He wasn't just my baby, he was my treasure. He was an elderly rescue that I'd only had for a few years, but he was my everything, including my rock through my divorce. I cried for five solid months after his passing, and continued crying sporadically for another year and a half (even though I already had three other cats by then). I kept battery operated tea light candles lit next to his urn for two years, and I cried some more when I finally let them go out because it felt like losing him all over again. Back where we used to live, I used to collect feathers, but when we moved to our new home, I never found a single one - until after BB8's passing. Then I suddenly started finding them everywhere, and I knew it was BB8 letting me know he was still thinking of me and watching over me. At first, I cried every time I found one and told him I missed him and was thinking of him too. I don't find them very often anymore, but once in a while I still do. Now, after 3-1/2 years, I'm able to smile and say, "Good morning, BB8. I still think of you too, baby boy. Thank you for letting me know you still think of me too, and for sending me more furbabies to love." Even though the time I had with him was way too short, I'm so grateful for that time. 🥲😻💖

I stumbled on to a few of these cat hacks.
We were traveling in an RV on a long trip going coast to coast in the US when we learned of a kitten that needed adoption. He was 12 weeks old and sick with an uper respiratory condition and a mean case of ring worm. It took a while but now he is a big healthy tuxedo. One thing i learned during that trip is when I left the RV if i just told him what i was doing and that i would be right back he would not run from window to window crying trying to find me. He is my shadow can't imagine life without him.

So my son's cat really doesn't like me, (so I thought). One day the cat got sick, he started sleeping on my bed and wouldn't leave my room. Which I found strange, because he always prefers my son over me. He never gives me any love and cuddles the way he does to my son. We realized that our cat was really sick. My son took him to the vet, and the vet send him home with antibiotics. The cat continued staying with me. We really thought that Ginger, our cat was going to die. He was no longer eating and his whole body was swollen. I took care of him the way that only a mother does. I had to force feed him, by diluting cat food with water. I gave him his meds, I even ask my sisters to please pray for our cat. After a week of taking care of him... little by little Ginger starting doing better. And to thank me Ginger our cat slept on my bed for a whole week even if he was feeling better. It was like if he was greatful for all the love and care I gave him. He still prefers my son and ignores me most of the time, but deep down inside he knows that I took care of him and to thank me he'll sleep on the foot of my bed every once in a while. But he still does not give me any love or cuddles.

i can tell you #7 is absolutely true. i lost my boy this past spring to undiagnosed until too late cancer, and i had him for the time he presented ill til death next to me all the time, and we and the vet could not figure out what was wrong and how he was still alive since he had refused food and water for weeks.his last day, i had him in his bed next to me, and he dragged himself off it and onto my chest and laid there, it was the middle of the night. i just held him, and said 'its ok baby, i'll be ok, you can rest now' and i thought he was in a coma at this point but he hadn't been, as he stretched out his paw gripping my finger i was smoothing his leg with and pulled it towards him, too 2 more breaths and was gone. so 7 is true.

I do believe in this too..I seen a lot in human in ICU or hospice situation. 😢 So, I do believe it does applied to pets too. They're very loyal to us and want us to be happy and protected. They dnt wanna leave us until we verbalize we'll be fine and they may rest in peace. Although deep inside we want them to live forever with us. It's a painful goodbye knowing that is the last day we seeing them, and the only hope one day is to see them in heaven.

This is very helpful. I had a cat that passed away from a terminal illness. He did not want to be touched so much, he only wanted to rest. He stopped eating and drinking , so I knew he was at the very last stage. He was with us for 12 years and my daughter was his person. While she was on vacation, I could tell he was just hanging on to see her so I told her as soon as her plane touched down just come home, I could pick up what he was doing because he would go to the window and just look out of it, even though it was a struggle, he made it his business to do that. As soon as my daughter came home, he spent a day and a night huddled all the way up under yer. By the morning, he passed away in peace, right next to her. It was extremely heartbreaking as we had him since he was an abandoned baby to 12 years old. I have four cats now and one of them is 12 years old now and I constantly worry about him as they get more fragile in their senior years. I guess I just had to get that story out because it's still haunts me to this day. I just wanted to say thank you for this information because it will help me prepare and have a better understanding that this is just the circle of life. Knowing what to do and how to handle it will help a lot. Thank you again!

I did not know these things. I have 4 cats; a mom and her two children, plus a stray that adopted us. Two are very affectionate, one is standoffish (very little handling at birth and early months), and one that meows when she wants affection. They mean everything and nothing is spared on them. End of life for any one of them is a day I dread. The quality of life they've given me is priceless and I'm a better person for it. The house is theirs, but it's clean and neat.

My animal soulmate Copper and I just lost our beloved Iris unexpectedly at 2 years old. We are both heartbroken. Copper is 8 . I rescued Iris on 9/11/2023 . She was a calico and was absolutely his baby , He taught her everything. He would build her confidence by acting like he didn’t know she was stalking him to play . He would save her a 1/4 of his wet food every night to make sure she had enough to eat. My coming home routine was him jumping up on the perch and I would pick him up and kiss him and hug him. When I came home he ran down the hall and looked at me then ran to my bedroom for me to follow . I didn’t take off my shoes and followed him to find Iris dead on the floor and he looked at me to help her . My heart and his were shattered. She evacuated her bowels on my bed but was on the floor showing he tried to revive her. My daughter went and adopted a new cat and kept him for about 6 weeks. So copper could grieve . He was crying for her every night and continued to save some food for the first few weeks. I asked my daughter to send me the vet records for Chester and his date of birth was the exact date that I rescued Iris. Also he has 1 calico limb that has a pink cross on his bottom paw pad . I was aware of almost everything you’d discussed because I took a lot of time to learn about cat psychology.
It’s been 10 days since bringing Chester here to keep Copper company while I’m working and Copper was just tolerating him . They played a little bit the other day so I had hope .
I don’t want a new cat that Copper just tolerates. I want him to have a buddy . How much time should I give him before I have to make a decision to give Chester back to my daughter.? Sorry about the book . Chester is the most affectionate cat I’ve ever seen. But Coppers happiness means EVERYTHING to me . I would be lost without him . Please any suggestions would be appreciated.

My cat trusted me so much that I could use both my thumbnails to, very carefully, wiped her eye crud away, but also stroke and scritch her face from the nose, to the eyes and back across that temporal spot you mentioned. I would gently hold her head with both my hands .. thumbs brushing the sides of her mouth back towards her cheeks whilst my fingers cradled her head and gently massaged her jaw and ears. Pixie never purred louder than when I did this.
My husband watched me do this and couldn’t believe it. He could never get the cat to sit still for this. So yes .. cats REALLY like it when you brush their cheeks and forehead. But if a cat ever lets you use your finger nails to extract the sleep from their eyes … you know you’ve bonded well.

We had a cat once named Gimpy, she was very clearly mentally impaired and had a hard time walking from a young age and hand nursed from birth. I and my brother were teens and well into smoking weed, hearing all the recent beneficial studies on people and animals with mental and motor impairments having positive results. So we get Gimpy high and like a miracle, she can walk right, acts like a cat, has an appetite, plays with toys. Sadly she passed after a few months from her overall condition, but she got to be a full cat for a little while. After the first time, she knew what was happening and how it helped her so the flick of a lighter would either call her to you or if she couldn't come, cause her to yowl until you found and smoked her up.

My sweet ginger girl Jillian Jinger was preparing to transition after battling illness. She always slept at the foot of my bed, but this particular night, she snuggled up close to me, purring so loud. I whispered in her ear that it was OK and that she could rest now. I also let her know that I'd be ok. She looked in my eyes as if to say, "That's all I've been waiting to hear, I love you Mom". I usually wake up throughout the night, but I slept through this night. When I woke up, Jill had left my bed. I found her in the bathtub, she had passed. My other cat was sitting on the side of the tub looking down at her. I am so grateful that she was present during Jill's final moments. I had planned an at home euthanasia, but once I gave my sweet, sweet girl permission, she went on her way. That was 3 years ago, but the heartbreak is still very much present. I know she didn't want me to witness her passing, and I'm truly grateful that she was at home with me and not at a vets office. 😢😢😢💔

I slow blink all day, talk to them 24/7, show them love & attention & even turned our house into a cat house. Putting shelving, ramps, steps & a cat-o-minium & even a carpet wall. None go outside. Too many what ifs out there. Our babies are family, not pets & I ain't taking no risks if them being hit by a car, being cat-napped, poisoned, attacked by an animal or asshat kids, etc...

I noticed that telling my cat either ‘I won’t be long’ so they know I’m only out for 5-25 mins or, if I’m going longer, ‘be good. I’ll see you later’. I found the cats were usually hovering around waiting on me if I wasn’t going to be long or they’d go off and lie down as I was leaving if I wasn’t going to be a while
I remember when I had to have my cat put down. He knew. He got a fright with the cold injection, but he curled up into my arms and passed. My heart has never been so broken and I tried to stay strong for him. When he went, I completely fell apart
That was 8 years ago and it still hurts. I swore never again as I just can’t take the loss but, since then, four cats have come through the cat flap and moved in with me. I really missed the love and affection cats give and, though they’re all incredibly loving, one has completely attached himself to me. He’s sleeping next to me as I type this
I’m absolutely in love with these little guys

My eldest kitty at well over 19 is giving clear signals of her leaving. She will not be the first nor my last. I love her deeply and we are on a boat with no real veterinary care close. I’m talking about anchored off an island in the Philippines. She started to have convulsions that she had years ago then worked through. I started doing with her the same as you are supposed to with humans. Recovery position, quietly talking to her. Telling her she is ok and I love her. I’ve just started telling her I’ll be ok if it is her time to go. She has always been extremely sensitive to other’s emotions who are around. I’ve just realized that the others around need to be clear about their own emotions while this is happening. Last. I thought it would be better for her to be removed, but now I understand she wants to be left alone, but to be able to see us. Thank you so much for this information.

Thank you so much for this video. I lost my sweet boy this summer and I’m telling you I did at least 5 of those 7 things and I feel so comforted that he knew I loved him.

My mom's cat, Oreo, became deathly ill earlier this year. At first, a few potential diseases were suspected until she exhibited signs of neurotoxicity. The vet tried to prepare my mom and let her know Oreo would almost certainly not see the sun rise again. The next morning, the vet was surprised to find her doing somewhat better, though still far from 100%. I brought her home and tended to her for a few days before she absolutely insisted on going back outside. (It's hard to say no to a cat that's literally hanging from the doorknob trying to figure out how to open the door).
Despite the conclusion that she had ingested rat poison, she slowly recovered to the point she was able to get back outside to play and be on her own. Almost eight months later and she's back to whatever sense of "normal" one could apply to that rotten furball.
Ever since I held her and brought her inside, she's insisted on interacting with me and now wants to come inside with me when it's cold outside.

It bothers me how normalized and accepted it has become that we take our loved ones into a strange and scary place moments before they pass. Taking them into the vet like it’s some honorable thing. When it’s time; I’m bringing the vet into our home to assist them in their passing on. That’s the right way to do it in my opinion

Yes I always thought that to take them into the cold sterile scary vet office was not a good idea for their exiting this life.

I followed a popular cat behaviorist and ignored my boy when he would come up to me purring at 5 am. After about a week or so he stopped. I get to sleep in, but I really miss those morning snuggles.💔

Maybe try giving him a gentle pet & hello when you wake. He may forgive the past mistakes.

Mine hasn’t set his clock back yet so he’s getting up at 4am instead of our usual 5. I pat him and say a few kind words and he’s happy then wonders off to explore.

Maybe go find him at 5am and check on him - show that you're reopening that line of communication.

OMG! NOOO! Give him snuggles - he think you rejected him. Even if you go right back to bed! It's like a part of the family checking you had a good sleep and you just give them the silent treatment!

One thing I cannot help but notice is how, when I'm sick, my cats hover and will all come and sit with me, even if they don't get along or are not usually cuddly. I used to have four cats and it was like having a cat-blanket then. LOL! But I loved it. Now I am down to one cat and she, unfortunately, is not very affectionate. Yet she will come and try to comfort me when I'm not feeling well. I keep debating getting another cat (or, possibly two kittens) because, being an only cat, after a life time of always having other cats around, I think it causes her a lot of anxiety that it's just us two now. Yet, at the same time, I wonder if she will feel usurped. It's been 9 months since the last cat passed (several years since the elders passed). I'm in a quandary.

Get some more. The shelters are an avalanche of babies that need a home. We have 2 of 4 that are gems. My 9th cat -- in my lifetime -- is the most affectionate and vocal with the strongest bond I've ever experienced 😻

There are so many out there needing a loving home. Get a couple more cats ,that’s love times two. and they will bring you so much comfort as you bring to them.
