  • I'm Precious, an Emergency Medicine resident physician sharing my experiences through medicine and life. Through my channel I hope to show that life is meant to be lived and enjoyed throughout the journey, not only at the final destination. Along the way, I hope to provide advice to students and motivation to anyone pursing a career in the medical field.

I love your hair. Very nice. I personally keep mine short so that it is easier to clean and then if someone spits or pukes on me it isn't as much of a sanitation issue. BUT I think yours always looks amazing!

Thanks for another vlog! I literally lol at the story-too funny. Do you pick your presentation topic or is it assigned? How often are you required to give presentations during residency training?

We pick our own topic from a list. I have 2 presentations during my first year.

Hi. I am an early college student. This means that when I graduate from high school I will graduate with my diploma and an Associate's degree. I plan to get a B.S. in Psychology and then go into medical school however, I am having trouble selecting a school. I understand that some colleges have to be accredited and that I have to take an MCAT Exam. Do you have any advice on how I should select my school? Do you have any advice on what I should be doing now to prepare myself for medical school? Should I chose to get my bachelor's in something like Chemistry, Molecular Biology, or go into a Pre-med program? Additionally, if you had to give me one piece of advice in regards to school and career, what would it be?
P.s. (I am a senior and will graduate in 2021. Sorry for the long comment. My curiosity gets the better of me and I just can't help it.)

Lau M Hi i'm a Pre-PA student that is a major in Psychology and my advice is to
      1. Make sure you have all the prerequisites to get into medical school , doesn't matter what degree you have have but if you don't have the prerequisites then there is no guarantee they might consider you.
      2. Chose something you are interested in because at the end if you are not interested in microbiology or chemistry there is no need to put your money in a degree you know you are going to hate. Medical school and Physician Assistant school want to see diversity . So you can get a degree in whatever you want but they want to also see what can you do outside of academic. so volunteering for example can make you look good.
      3. As far as school go , it depends on your situation and transportation and how much you are going to take out of loans. So if you want to stay with your parents find school near by with a low commute time and go to that school. If you are in a situation where you cannot stay with your parents look for schools that best interest you, ofc you want them to accept you but those school need to accommodate your needs . After all you are paying for school.
      4. if money is the issue just know we all are doing to be in debt no matter how much and how long we go to school or the amount of money. Apply for scholarships that will help you out a lot. I'm blessed to be able to work at a hospital as housekeeping ( I clean Operating rooms,) no matter what i do i can still apply for scholarships.
      5. And lastly just know this is a journey of its own I know it fell like you have to live in a timeline cause trust i feel that way, but do something because you like it not because a school wants you too. Because if you don't get into their program , it was maybe because it wasn't for you. There are many medical school in the United states (i'm assuming here) so you have a lot to choose from . But remember as stated before you have to do what feels right to you.
I hope this was somewhat helpful.

      1. In terms of selecting an undergraduates college/university, you can go to anyone that has a solid pre-med curriculum (biology, biochemistry, general chemistry, physics, organic chemistry, English, and math). Some additional classes to consider are genetics, microbiology, psychology, and sociology. These are all topics that you'll see on the MCAT or in med sch. You can choose any major that suits your interest. Psychology is a good choice.
      2. For selecting a medical school, I used MSAR and applied to schools that had missions that aligned with my goals. It ended up working out for me. Be able to answer, "Why do you want to become a doctor?"
      3. Be involved in extracurricular activities. Do things that you are passionate about. For example, if you like music, then do that. It is important to demonstrate commitment and discipline. Gain experience by shadowing, volunteering, doing research or working as a scribe/EMT/phlebotomist etc. There are so many options!
Lastly, the biggest advice I would give is to reach out to admissions, physicians and medical students for advice. There is no one right way to become a doctor. Continue working hard and putting in the effort. Good luck!
