I haven't bought a Call of Duty game since MW2019. Although I did get Cold War for free in PS+ (downloaded only for the campaign, which I enjoyed). I'm a Battlefield player through and through, so I don't tend to shell out for a new CoD every year. That said, I have been playing a few shooters in recent years, a long with Apex and some Warzone. Was excited for XDefiant after playing the beta, but that game is no delayed. So for someone looking for something new to play, at least new-ish to ME, MW3 ticks the box. Played the beta and enjoyed it. So I am picking it up. Now, for someone coming from MW2, I could see the reluctancy because it seems like the same game with just rebooted maps. But for me, it will be fairly fresh - although I have played the maps in classic CoD games before. Still looking forward to it.
I wana see a DMZ mode where you drop in to a World where the infection spreads and zombies increase and have to call extraction and get out with tech and loot to make the next run a little easier
I really am concerned about the servers I haven’t been able to get through a single game in multiplayer or warzone without packet burst since season 5 reloaded. It’s hard to spend $70 on a game that can be unplayable.
I will not be buying this game. When war zone is free.
No way i'm buying this until it's at least 50% off. It's basically a glorified DLC. If even, i'd say it's more of an update to the current game. It's how MW2 should have launched a year ago.

I've bought the past two Modern Warfare games primarily for their campaigns. I have played the best CoD campaigns for years and I love them a lot. I usually watch RUclips walkthroughs of the first two missions of a new CoD campaign, just to make sure that it looks good and deserves my money.
I must say that I was watching Tomographic's stream yesterday, and was thoroughly disgusted. I watched the first two missions as normal, but the second mission in particular worried me. It was clear that they had just shoehorned in a bunch of Warzone mechanics, and had opted for a semi open, DMZ/Warzone section of map littered with loot crates. It felt like I was watching a Warzone video, not a CoD campaign.
I have no problem with Warzone, I actually play it myself a fair bit, and the mechanics are good. They work in Warzone because they fit nicely into a Battle Royale game mode. They do NOT fit in a campaign. For me, campaign has always been separate from the multiplayer and BR modes. I am after an engaging story with set pieces, and immersive, more linear action.
The Open Combat missions are a great addition in theory. If Sledgehammer had sprinkled in 1 or 2, maybe even 3 of these missions throughout the story, but had made them far more in the style of the 'Alone' mission from MW2 2022, then I think it would have worked well.
Whoever had the idea to make 90% of the missions Open Combat needs to seriously re-evaluate their understanding of what makes a good CoD campaign. I get that they were trying something new, but if you're going to do that, you HAVE to implement it conservatively. One or two missions in this style would have achieved this, but instead, almost all missions were open combat, and it was completely jarring. It didn't even feel like I was watching a campaign.
It also didn't help that the missions felt empty, boring, and completely half baked. By comparison, a mission like 'Alone' felt far more polished and well thought out. Watching MW3's campaign felt like I was watching a glorified Atomgrad Raid.
In the end I watched Tomographic's entire stream. I just had to see if the game got any better, but it really didn't. I always try to avoid spoilers so that I can enjoy the campaigns for myself, but this time I just let myself watch the whole thing. After the fourth or fifth open combat mission, it had become clear to me that this year's CoD story just was not for me. So I just watched Tom play it so that I could at least follow the story. I am thankful that I won't be wasting my money on this game, but saddened that this is seriously what they have come up with.
It's so obvious that this game has suffered from the constricted development time, and Sledgehammer has clearly choked under these conditions. Not that they have ever managed to deliver a good CoD campaign even with longer development time. Activision made an appalling decision to bring MW3 out just a year after MW2, and the end result really reflects this. It is the worst CoD campaign I have ever seen. The gameplay, level design, and implementation of the story was so rushed and half-arsed that it stuns me.
I won't be buying this game. Ever. I'll play the new Warzone update when it releases, but the £70 main game is completely DOA. What a shame. CoD campaigns are prestigious, they may be over the top and very "Hollywood" sometimes, but they have almost always managed to set the standard for just how fun a AAA FPS campaign can be.
MW3 is a bland, boring, underdeveloped halfway-house between a Warzone tutorial, and an Atomgrad Raid.
I will be skipping and I will not be looking back.
EDIT: This comment is just the tip of the iceberg of my criticisms of the singleplayer. There is honestly so much wrong with the campaign alone in this game, that it could easily have a video essay done on it, and that video would probably be longer than the damn game lol.
Seriously, Tom spent some time after finishing his playthrough just discussing what he didn't like about the campaign, and his rant clocked in at about 1/4 of the campaign's actual length. Genuinely awful lmao.
The waste of key characters was also egregious. Flippantly killing off some major characters (one of them in a ridiculous POST-CREDITS cutscene) was an AWFUL decision. The writers for this game dropped the ball hard, and it's clear they didn't even grasp just how important some of these characters are to fans. Total waste of potential.
Well said, I completely agree with you, ever since the wall running days of cod I have only really bought them for the campaign with the exception of Bo4, just because a lot of friends wanted to get it together.
Other than that I only look for a good campaign and I was genuinely excited with mw 2019 and Cold War and where they would take the franchise, however at the same time they started turning COD into a live service BR. That made apprehensive leading into vanguard as I knew it would start to be prioritized over the campaign. I was right and I skipped both Vanguard and MW2. Out of curiosity from seeing all of the ads I watched Moistcrit1kal play the campaign for MW3, and I didn’t think it could get this bad. At this point it seems that full CoD games are just glorified WarZone DLCs. It’s extremely embarrassing, considering how good some of their campaigns are. The ending is just horrible and they obviously killed him off just to have some sort of ending. This game needed way more time in the oven.
@@Frosted_OverYeah completely. I would say that MW2022 at least feels like a normal CoD campaign. It has it's problems, but it never really tries to force in Warzone mechanics. It's definitely it's own separate thing from the multiplayer and Warzone. I guess that's why I feel so blindsided by MW3. I was shocked to see just how many Warzone/DMZ mechanics had forced their way in.
Absolutely crazy decision. I can only hope that this game, and more specifically campaign is unequivocally rejected by the fanbase. We have to stop future CoD campaigns from becoming the same mess.
They need to put out new games every 2-3 years instead of every year. They're progressively getting worse with more cash grabbing in every game
Im not buying it but i did enjoy DMZ game mode as someone who played a lot of Tarkov but quit due to bsg amd all its problems. But DMZ was a nice extraction lite game mode that was too shallow but was fun for me for awhile and i had some sick moments that got my heart racing and made me feel accomplished. The new zombies mode sounds liie it coule be the same but without the threat of real players third partying you i doubt the thrill and achievment feelings will be much....
So glad I play Siege. I spent 50 bucks 8 years ago and still play almost every day. They don't require me to spend a cent if I don't want to as maps are free and characters are grindable. I used to beat every COD in veteran but quit after Ghosts.

See I was going to buy the game but think I will wait for bit, especially after playing the finals beta. That's like breath of fresh air in the FPS genre and I can see that doing well, if supported right.
finals was VERY fun, loved the destruction. didnt get any good crazy 3v3s for the final round tho
Yeah not had that much fun since the first warzone and modern warefare 2019. I agree but it definitely has the potential to do well. Especially if they get the balance right and had more game modes too. It's a shame cause I love cod but lately I feel like not just them but the FPS genre is a bit stale and nothing fresh these days and it's copy and paste job. Need to consider pc gaming cause far better choice of games, as where conole you're limited.
The storyline had so much more potential than they utilized in the game. The ending was left in the middle of good and bad. I tried my brothers game on his account instead of buying it, and kind of glad that I didn't spend the money on it, and I've boughten and played each COD since the before-fore time of Big Red 1 up until MW2. Also would lie if I said I wasn't a little disappointed in the multiplayer maps being that they are rehashes of old maps. I feel, and this is just my opinion, that this was a lazy reskin. But "F" for Soap.

Last one I bought was cold war. And that was strictly for zombies. Never touched the MP or warzone. Unfortunately this is the only continuation of zombies so ill have to buy it. Unless god hears my prayers and they decide last minute decide to make zombies free.

Worst campaign in CoD history, reused assets being justified with the word "reboot" everything is refused from characters, plot devices, maps, weapons & audio design... after all the handouts from previous assets, Sledgehammer couldn't even make good story... also 3 hours long

Not played the campaign yet and im sure it will be good, but good god i cant be the only one who does not care for open missions, mw2019 campaign was a masterpiece, and the super intense well thought put linear levels made it, mw2022 campaign was ok but just not the same, and imo the open world ambitions were a big part of that

CoD used to be a valueable game because you would be given a fleshed out and interesting campaign, access to fun and replayable multiplayer, and a third mode whether it be zombies or spec ops. Now it's multiplayer access with half a campaign and warzone bloatware
While I love the movement, and the potential of DMZombies, I could justify keeping the pre-order. I will wait when the game goes on sale. The campaign was way to short :/. I don't mind Warzone or mostly Resurgence, but the lack of the mix of PvE and PvP we got in DMZ hurts it more.

as a person who doesn't play warzone and just sticks to pvp, i enjoyed the open combat missions as it was a gentle intro to the warzone mechanics.
70$ for a 4h campaign, couple map from 2009 MW2 + couple map from 2022 MW2.

Sorry Stone but it's kind of untrue what you said. Only season that did not get a new map at launch was Season 1 of MWII and anyway we got Shoothouse and Shipment during that season. Since season 2 we got 2 new maps each season plus midseason update.

Currently playing the campaign and the Verdansk Stadium mission looked awesome and took me back driving out the city to the under stadium parking then working your way up the various levels

I like that plunder is back in Warzone. I do not like BR with one life game. It's just a giant waste of time, few kills etc.
With plunder it's like an MP game mode with respawn on a giant map.
I play mostly ground war maps. But I will play some core this time because the maps are MW2 maps and back then they designed maps better. Recent COD maps are always so exposed from all angles and often smaller.

buy it or not, mw3 is what mw2 shoulda been and that's enough for me to support the game I only want the best for, i paid for the vault specifically for the cosmetics and the next season battlepass and blackcell
i might just play the free verision of the campaign and casually have fun in warzone (whithout tryharding the weapon meta) and thats it, i dont feel like giving more money to them , still looks a feels better than the previous title , multiplayer was just a refill of the game in the last 2 titles , 2k hrs on cod4 MP and less than 200 in the new mw1 & 2

Normally I don't care about Zombie mode at all. Because it's usually small location and just wave after wave. It's boring. But PVE Zombies on warzone map with progression through the maps and extract etc seems more fun.

I've always bought CoD for the Campaign. I love most of the stories, especially the MW series. This new MW3 was great! Much better than last years MW2. But it also somehow felt shorter. Maybe the Weapons Free missions were a little too quick or easy when compared to how a DMZ run feels?
edit: the constant radio chatter in the WF missions is annoying and could be why I rushed through them. Having someone constantly remind you of the mission every 30 seconds really needs to be stopped in video games.

ALL OF THIS COULD OF JUST LITERALLY BEEN A DLC/PUBLIC PATCH. THE FACT THEY EVEN CONVERTED MW2 TO BECOME THE BASELINE MAIN COD GAME SHOWS THEY GENIUNELY WERE GOING TO JUST GO THROUGH WITH THIS SPEAKS VOLUMES.THEY JUST TURNED A GLORIFIED DLC to essentially a separate game that lacks the substance, content, and even quality control. (213 GB, Jesus Christ bro, and this is only on release, god save us when the next battle pass drops)
