Everyone’s best bet is to go out and get the lowest mileage, highest quality Tacoma, tundra, 4Runner, gx460, highlanders, rav4s you can find and then hold it for the rest of your life. Those V6s and V8s proven to last you over 300k miles with routine maintenance. These new turbo engines and cheap interiors are hiding behind a bunch of unnecessary tech no one needs.
I have a 2015 4runner LTD, 220k miles, and when it does come time, I will do just that- either a lightly used GX460 or LC200. But that's assuming my 4runner ever gives up the ghost, which I have seen no sign of that happening.
In our 20 years of marriage, my wife has always and still commented on Toyota having the best engines out there, Toyota's reputation is based on the 80s, 90s and early 2000s. Other carmakers haven't stood still in the last 30 to 40 years, also the Toyota engines known for quality have almost all been phased out in place of smaller turbocharged engines that do not hold the same durability of the old naturally aspirated engines.

After 2 lengthy test drives in a base LC, I have reached the conclusion that for an entry price of $60k Toyota should be ashamed by offering such a cheap poorly built/equipped piece crap... the LC Is a $45k vehicle with a $15k name plate... Poor interior quality, sub par tech, a buzzy unrefined power train, floaty ride, anemic engine performance and a battery pack placement that is a pure afterthought... the days of Toyota reliability , quality and longevity are over... welcome to the new Toy-Yugo....
When I went to the dealership to get my car serviced, I decided to sit in one that was on the showroom floor. It had Manuel clothes seats, a 4 cylinder engine and costed $55,000. Too much money

This is something I don't understand. TFL has proven that the original first gen. Tundra V8 gets better mpg than the latest Tundra. I have seen other cases as well in which the older vehicles do better or at least close or even. Meanwhile, new vehicles are more complicated, less reliable, and cost more.

It seems to me, that when a small engine is revved higher to produce the same result as a larger engine that can run at a lower RPM it will tend to pollute more. Hence the change in the exhaust system I suspect..
For a brand new hybrid SUV that’s bad. You’d expect more for $70K SUVs. My 3.5L V6 Highlander from 2015 is still getting 19 to 22, which says something about the new Toyota 4 cylinders and hybrid power trains in the new SUVs.
@gazzyT644 I have a 10 year old Nissan Frontier with a V6 and get an average 17-18 mpg's. All manufacturers are building smaller engines and mounting turbos on them because they are cheaper to manufacture. This is a fact
All really good points, Ben. Glad to see you put this out there. I really like the look of this LC, particularly the 1958, but Toyota cut way too many corners, cheaped out on quality where they shouldn't have, and they want way too much money for what it is. Ironically, it's things like this that will likely drive up prices in the used market, as people learn newer isn't necessarily better.

I don’t think Toyota is being cheap regarding the hollow sound. It using lighter materials for weight savings. We have a 1991 truck and a 2002 Tacoma that I drive on a regular basis. The difference is the materials used….the 2002 has way more plastic and not built as solid as the 1991. Both have the V6 and get about 15MPG. The 1991 will only go 75mph and the 2002 will go much faster😊. Rented a 2024 and it has even more plastic, faster and gets better MPH. Trade off is it for sure feels “less solid” compared to my vehicles. The reality for all manufacturers is modern cars are no longer “overbuilt” to last.
Good stuff Ben! Just traded my Grenadier in for LC250, and so far it fits my needs - comfort, quietness, power and large dealership network. Agree the BMW B58 is truly a pleasure to drive, but with the Grenadier breakdowns, the multiple towing to the dealers was breaking the bank (Ineos covers first 100mi, so towing 500+ is quite $$).
He’s the first I’ve hear say the Grenadier is nice to drive. My impression was that it’s a very off-road capable car that you had to work a bit to keep going in a straight line. I haven’t done a deep dive on it though. What did you think about how the Grenadier drove?
My complaints after 7300 miles in my 1958: Engine sounds really loud/bad and is way too loud inside the cabin even under light acceleration Jerky transmission experience esp coming to a stop. Impossible to drive smoothly Windows rattle over bumps when partially rolled down S-flow in climate control SUCKS and has to be turned off EVERY TIME I start the car Doors are hollow This is weird but the “new car smell” is actually weird and gross in this vehicle Things I like: Mine is stock and I get 21mpg Power and torque are excellent and WAY better than current 4runner Ride comfort is great Has its issues for sure and it’s very overpriced but everything is now I’d take this over my 23 4runner ANY DAY
My sister always comes to me for car advice. She wanted to trade her 2020 Accord Touring on a small SUV. She asked about the RAV4, CRV and CX-5. I told her although the RAV4 is bulletproof it would feel the cheapest although it’s not as far as price. She thought my ‘22 CX-5 Felt small but luxurious. She bought a CRV Touring hybrid and loves it.
@@Dano-MX5 Can't go wrong with the CRV. I've had mine since 2017 and it's been great. Zero issues with an 8 year old vehicle and still drives like new.

Hi Ben, early in this video you open and close the rear door. Seems to have a hollow/tinny nature to the door sound. Also observed this in person at a showroom for the new LC. Can you keep an ear and feel out for this when you look at the 2025 4Runner? It is one of the reasons we are leaning toward sticking with prior gen GX and 4Runner. General sentiment is more plastic and less sense of build quality on the 2025 but looking forward to your review and thoughts. Until then we will keep happily plugging away with the prior gen comforts. (Saw you cover this concern in the middle of the video - this is one of your best comparison videos to date. Thanks for the brutally honest content, it is lacking out there on RUclips! Keep up the great work.)
I'm a Toyota guy and have had almost ever model in the last 40ish years. Obviously I have liked Toyotas for their quality. I am concerned about the QDR of the current models mainly from the reviews that I see on line, not thru direct experience. I'm not in the market for anything at this time as my current Toyotas will last many more years, but when that time comes I likely will go Toyota again because the competition by comparison is also lacking in quality.
I have a 4G Tacoma, your comment around the 12 minute mark syms it up for me. The power train is so unrefined and abrasive, it distracts from any improvements in ride quality etc they may have made. Factor in the lower over build quality...I'm very disappointed.
Just drove this and bought one but a base model. If you look at it compared or a gen 5 runner. Much better mpg and it’s got way more power and features. It’s very quiet. It is however not worth it imho to get one decked out. Get the GX. They all have lots of torque lots off off-road capability and practicality. For a 6,000 lb really large suv with full time awd and a locker 23 on the highway is amazing fuel economy. The older versions of this GX would get 14 on the highway.

Also I bought the car in NY and drove down to FL the first 4000 miles i was on highway the other 600 miles on city Not a mechanic just a n enthusiast opinion
Mine, with 10k miles on it, everytime I reserve, the brakes squeak. The dealer said it was normal because it was cold, but it has done it on 55 degree days too so I am taking it back in. Almost a 70k car with the breaks squeaking
Jason Camissa on Hagerty is pretty much the only journalist who called out the new Land Cruiser. He complained about the super cheap interior materials that are more appropriate to a Rav4, and a super buzzy engine that vibrates through the steering column. He even said the engine sounds broken with the noises it makes!
My question is WHY when the 4Runner is better ground clearance, more options for less. Why would Toyota make the same size SUV and charge more for a brand they ruined
We just rented a VW Touareg with a 4 banger turbo charged, it drove us crazy in city driving with its sudden acceleration and jerkiness. Just say NO to 4 banger turbos in SUVs!
I think VWs have historically lurched at initial toe in. I drove a V6 Passat 25 years ago and hated it for that exact reason. Bought a 1 year old Lexus ES instead and loved it.
The 2024 Toyota Landcruiser is amazing full Japan Hybrid build with awesome reliability. What kind of fool buys a hybrid vehicle and expects no differences in operation. The situation with warped blocks and blown head gaskets on the older V8 Landcruisers is pretty bad. The Car Care Nut mechanic has some great information on both topic on utube in a full review. He also discusses the Iforce Max Turbo 4-cylinder reliability.

230 mile range? I was getting about 450 in the latest Jeep GC Trailhawk. And it has a gorgeous interior, more ground clearance, much faster and cheaper. Downside? Grabby brakes and the hybrid to gas transition is often very clunky.
Something seems off on your MPG. I only have 1400 miles on my 250 LC / LC and my average is 21.4 mixed driving. I reset the mpg gauge when I drove off the lot and haven’t touched it since. I get around 325 miles on a full tank. I do agree that range on a vehicle this big should be be 400 miles minimum. I also agree engine sounds annoying almost like a small diesel but only at low speeds when first accelerating from a stop. Cruising at 50 mph or higher especially around 70 to 75 mph on a freeway the engine noise is non existent.
I am so glad I stumbled onto your video. This vehicle has been one of the ones I’m considering. However I live in Texas and my driving distances are a lot so I want the maximum fuel between stops. Definitely a deal breaker for sure.
For a "smaller" land cruiser that's almost the same size as the last generation, probably should have an inline 6 cylinder engine like they used to get.
Yes, the fuel tank is small. Other than that your comments are purely subjective. If you like a bigger gas engine then get a Lexus. I have similar mileage to you and the LC250 works well for my driving style. The main annoyances are all safety system related which is just cars these days.
Can you sleep in it? I’m 6’2 and wonder if you can sleep in a comfortably. I believe you’re running into stuff underneath because of the hybrid battery pushes down the tire well below. So your ground clearance is less. I also heard that putting it in Eco mode, takes away that jolting effect you’re talking about.
Thanks for the update...was looking between the Lexus the Land Cruiser and the Ineos...leaning towards the Ineos TBH...overall seems more solid of a vehicle and more capable. Agree Toyota dropped the ball on the powertrains and build quality.
The Team in Japan who came up with the2024 Prado need to rethink the car. US don't like 4 cylinders, works in Europe only. Improve build quality for the price.

Toyota used a b58 for the Supra. They should either just use b58 for their trucks, or should make a modern 2jz. If they’re taking the greatest v8’s of all time away from us, an in-line six is the only acceptable replacement.
We must have different vehicles. At no point do I feel my Land Cruiser struggling for power. I have been very impressed with the power train thus far. It just seems like you’re trying to come up with issues to increase views.
If EPA is the reason that Toyota is going with smaller displacement engines + turbos, then why is it that Nissan still makes a naturally aspirated v6 for the frontier?
It's fairly easy to find a decent car or SUV for north of $80K. Below that you are basically screwed no matter what you buy. I just wonder how car manufacturers planning to stay in business when majority of car buyers can't afford anything that's more than $40K really.
Used. Not sure people remember a time that normal people in normal jobs use to buy used cars. I never grew up around someone who could actually afford a new car. The issue isn’t pricing. It’s people thinking they need new and in debt. Yes I understand the price disparity then to now. That means used should be the only option then if you’re poorer.
New rav4 is under 40k Can get a sienna for under 40k Camry is under 40k All are hybrids and get great mileage. Nobody said people had to buy a Land Cruiser. Hell in the early 90’s they were 40k. But it was a Land Cruiser. Basically the most expensive toyota. Today it’s still a Land Cruiser but a cheaper version. The 300 series would command 100k

Wow, Toyota is definitely disappointing us consumers today. I've always wanted a Tacoma and intended on buying a 2025 or 26, until the 2024 was released with no V6. I guess a Frontier is in my near future.

No one has an examples, just "but it's a 4 cylinder", as if there aren't countless shit cars with 6 and 8 cylinders engines, and innumerable great cars with 4 cylinders. Corollas are famously reliably, hundreds of thousands of miles on 4 cylinders engines. Same story for Prius re:hybrid battery. Subaru is currently "the most reliable" car brand, exclusively 4 cylinder engines for the last 5 years.
The smaller turbos are for early on torque delivery. Nothing sounds better than a b58 lol. The 8 speed in the land curser is a direct shift. That’s just the way it’s programmed
I think that Toyota just isn’t handling the latest emissions as well. I would get a previous model when Toyota was crushing it. Your Sequoia is a great example. Also, it seems like the trans logic is purely to reduce cylinder pressure, not for power, not for smoothness. It can get awkward.
For the extra 30 grand, the grenadier better feel better. The solid "thunk" noise comes from the butyl sound mat automakers slap on the back sides of large flat sheet metal panels. I'm pretty sure Toyota saved that for the GX to give it a more premiun sound over the cheaper LC. Youd think they'd give the first edition the Lexus touch under the surface for the extra money they charged for it. Theres a video idea for you. How to make the 250 feel more premium and record a video popoing off the door panels and layering sound deadening in the doors. Good video for revenue with all your subscribers.
The gx (and I am sure for the LC) has the cheapest feeling door. The metal around the glass literally bends with a few fingers pinching it and moving it around.. the metal is just like 1/8” thick
@@mcwendel8066 well considering you cant but a first edition LC brand new, its considered vaperware. Starting price is 58k base LC. Base grenadier is 75k. You're also getting quite a lot of heft for the money on the grenadier.
@ none of the vehicles I have demonstrated this thin, malleable metal frame around the glass. My 5th gen 4Runner felt solid and my grenadier’s construction is couple tiers above what the 250/gx felt like. On the gx. The b pillar portion of the front doors felt so bendy that I would never shut the door via pushing on that portion
240 miles of range for a 4cyl turbo with hybrid seems like a move backwards. EPA should revise their regulations so the previous generation of engines might once again come back.
If you compare the 250 to FJ Cruiser, you basically have to pay twice for very similar capabilities (and yes I'm aware that the FJ had some inconveniences and bare bone electronics). Ineos Grenadier kept that bare bone approach, while Toyota decided to bring the lower grade LC Prado as a 250, and not the widely popular 70 series. I just don't get it.
@@rickper mid-grade FJ was $28k, and you'd often find them at a discount toward the end of each model season. Unless you're comparing the final edition which they marked up quite steeply, FJ was quite an affordable vehicle at the time.

A small V6 turbo would've made more sense. Smoother acceleration, not as much heat build up so fast, a little more reliable in the long run. But of course, Toyota had to be cheap and make everything modular for the Taco, LC, and 4runner.

I get 20 mpg on snow tires which includes a good amount of Colorado mountain driving. Just crossed 15k miles on the odometer.
15 mpg's is no improvement over the V6's.

The reality for all manufacturers is modern cars are no longer “overbuilt” to last.
My 2001 4Runner doors sound cheap when you slam the door. I have been shutting it the last 23 years. Sturdy is heavy.
Good stuff Ben! Just traded my Grenadier in for LC250, and so far it fits my needs - comfort, quietness, power and large dealership network. Agree the BMW B58 is truly a pleasure to drive, but with the Grenadier breakdowns, the multiple towing to the dealers was breaking the bank (Ineos covers first 100mi, so towing 500+ is quite $$).
He’s the first I’ve hear say the Grenadier is nice to drive. My impression was that it’s a very off-road capable car that you had to work a bit to keep going in a straight line. I haven’t done a deep dive on it though. What did you think about how the Grenadier drove?
What break downs have you had?
My complaints after 7300 miles in my 1958:
Engine sounds really loud/bad and is way too loud inside the cabin even under light acceleration
Jerky transmission experience esp coming to a stop. Impossible to drive smoothly
Windows rattle over bumps when partially rolled down
S-flow in climate control SUCKS and has to be turned off EVERY TIME I start the car
Doors are hollow
This is weird but the “new car smell” is actually weird and gross in this vehicle
Things I like:
Mine is stock and I get 21mpg
Power and torque are excellent and WAY better than current 4runner
Ride comfort is great
Has its issues for sure and it’s very overpriced but everything is now
I’d take this over my 23 4runner ANY DAY

I rented a RAV4 and was shocked how cheap it felt.
My sister always comes to me for car advice. She wanted to trade her 2020 Accord Touring on a small SUV. She asked about the RAV4, CRV and CX-5. I told her although the RAV4 is bulletproof it would feel the cheapest although it’s not as far as price. She thought my ‘22 CX-5 Felt small but luxurious. She bought a CRV Touring hybrid and loves it.
@@Dano-MX5 Can't go wrong with the CRV. I've had mine since 2017 and it's been great. Zero issues with an 8 year old vehicle and still drives like new.

Hi Ben, early in this video you open and close the rear door. Seems to have a hollow/tinny nature to the door sound. Also observed this in person at a showroom for the new LC. Can you keep an ear and feel out for this when you look at the 2025 4Runner?
It is one of the reasons we are leaning toward sticking with prior gen GX and 4Runner. General sentiment is more plastic and less sense of build quality on the 2025 but looking forward to your review and thoughts. Until then we will keep happily plugging away with the prior gen comforts.

I'm a Toyota guy and have had almost ever model in the last 40ish years. Obviously I have liked Toyotas for their quality. I am concerned about the QDR of the current models mainly from the reviews that I see on line, not thru direct experience. I'm not in the market for anything at this time as my current Toyotas will last many more years, but when that time comes I likely will go Toyota again because the competition by comparison is also lacking in quality.
i own lc250fe its perfectly good car, only issue maybe it should have gone for 6cylinder, other than that on offroad this car is a beast

That diesel gets the same mpg as the four cylinder turbo hybrid but hits 0-60 in about 11 secs.
Not being critical but the check engine lights were on in the Grenadier…..
is "check if the engine is there" because is soo smooth.

I have a 4G Tacoma, your comment around the 12 minute mark syms it up for me. The power train is so unrefined and abrasive, it distracts from any improvements in ride quality etc they may have made. Factor in the lower over build quality...I'm very disappointed.
Just drove this and bought one but a base model. If you look at it compared or a gen 5 runner. Much better mpg and it’s got way more power and features. It’s very quiet. It is however not worth it imho to get one decked out. Get the GX. They all have lots of torque lots off off-road capability and practicality. For a 6,000 lb really large suv with full time awd and a locker 23 on the highway is amazing fuel economy. The older versions of this GX would get 14 on the highway.

Is your's the hybrid engine? Mine is stock and gets combined 17.4mpg, it's pitiful. And I don't drive it hard at all.

Note Im in a flat area and I don't pull trailers . Also I bought the car in NY and drove down to FL the first 4000 miles i was on highway the other 600 miles on city

Mine, with 10k miles on it, everytime I reserve, the brakes squeak. The dealer said it was normal because it was cold, but it has done it on 55 degree days too so I am taking it back in. Almost a 70k car with the breaks squeaking
Jason Camissa on Hagerty is pretty much the only journalist who called out the new Land Cruiser. He complained about the super cheap interior materials that are more appropriate to a Rav4, and a super buzzy engine that vibrates through the steering column.
He even said the engine sounds broken with the noises it makes!
My question is WHY when the 4Runner is better ground clearance, more options for less. Why would Toyota make the same size SUV and charge more for a brand they ruined

We just rented a VW Touareg with a 4 banger turbo charged, it drove us crazy in city driving with its sudden acceleration and jerkiness. Just say NO to 4 banger turbos in SUVs!
I think VWs have historically lurched at initial toe in. I drove a V6 Passat 25 years ago and hated it for that exact reason. Bought a 1 year old Lexus ES instead and loved it.
I can't stand the feel of Toyota's vehicles. They are just flat out cheap. Now they aren't even overly reliable.... dead to me!
The 2024 Toyota Landcruiser is amazing full Japan Hybrid build with awesome reliability. What kind of fool buys a hybrid vehicle and expects no differences in operation. The situation with warped blocks and blown head gaskets on the older V8 Landcruisers is pretty bad. The Car Care Nut mechanic has some great information on both topic on utube in a full review. He also discusses the Iforce Max Turbo 4-cylinder reliability.

230 mile range? I was getting about 450 in the latest Jeep GC Trailhawk. And it has a gorgeous interior, more ground clearance, much faster and cheaper. Downside? Grabby brakes and the hybrid to gas transition is often very clunky.
Something seems off on your MPG. I only have 1400 miles on my 250 LC / LC and my average is 21.4 mixed driving. I reset the mpg gauge when I drove off the lot and haven’t touched it since. I get around 325 miles on a full tank. I do agree that range on a vehicle this big should be be 400 miles minimum. I also agree engine sounds annoying almost like a small diesel but only at low speeds when first accelerating from a stop. Cruising at 50 mph or higher especially around 70 to 75 mph on a freeway the engine noise is non existent.
I am so glad I stumbled onto your video. This vehicle has been one of the ones I’m considering. However I live in Texas and my driving distances are a lot so I want the maximum fuel between stops. Definitely a deal breaker for sure.
For a "smaller" land cruiser that's almost the same size as the last generation, probably should have an inline 6 cylinder engine like they used to get.
Yes, the fuel tank is small. Other than that your comments are purely subjective. If you like a bigger gas engine then get a Lexus. I have similar mileage to you and the LC250 works well for my driving style. The main annoyances are all safety system related which is just cars these days.

I believe you’re running into stuff underneath because of the hybrid battery pushes down the tire well below. So your ground clearance is less.
I also heard that putting it in Eco mode, takes away that jolting effect you’re talking about.

The Team in Japan who came up with the2024 Prado need to rethink the car. US don't like 4 cylinders, works in Europe only. Improve build quality for the price.
Doesnt work in EU either 🙁 Our 2.8 diesel is better engine but compared to our older 4.5l v8 diesel it is anemic as hell too. I barely ride my top-spec 150, I love my 200 way too much

255/80 R17s are the ultimate tire for a Prado! True 33s and thinner and lighter than a 285/70 R17!
Toyota used a b58 for the Supra. They should either just use b58 for their trucks, or should make a modern 2jz. If they’re taking the greatest v8’s of all time away from us, an in-line six is the only acceptable replacement.

Grenadier has the BMW 3.0 liter inline 6 linked to the ZF 8 speed transmission. Great combination.
We must have different vehicles. At no point do I feel my Land Cruiser struggling for power. I have been very impressed with the power train thus far. It just seems like you’re trying to come up with issues to increase views.
If EPA is the reason that Toyota is going with smaller displacement engines + turbos, then why is it that Nissan still makes a naturally aspirated v6 for the frontier?

It's fairly easy to find a decent car or SUV for north of $80K. Below that you are basically screwed no matter what you buy. I just wonder how car manufacturers planning to stay in business when majority of car buyers can't afford anything that's more than $40K really.

I am already tired of all the 4-cylinder turbo crap. V6 is the least amount of cylinders I am willing to go on a pickup or SUV. That limits my selection, but so be it.
At the end of the day, it's simply not remotely worth the money. No amount of rationalization will change that.

Wow, Toyota is definitely disappointing us consumers today. I've always wanted a Tacoma and intended on buying a 2025 or 26, until the 2024 was released with no V6. I guess a Frontier is in my near future.

No one has an examples, just "but it's a 4 cylinder", as if there aren't countless shit cars with 6 and 8 cylinders engines, and innumerable great cars with 4 cylinders. Corollas are famously reliably, hundreds of thousands of miles on 4 cylinders engines. Same story for Prius re:hybrid battery. Subaru is currently "the most reliable" car brand, exclusively 4 cylinder engines for the last 5 years.
So, definitely keeping wifey’s 2018 4Runner TRD Pro. She wants a Capstone edition Sequoia but maybe I can convince her on a used 200 series LC.

The smaller turbos are for early on torque delivery. Nothing sounds better than a b58 lol. The 8 speed in the land curser is a direct shift. That’s just the way it’s programmed

I feel the hybrid should be used more at lower RPM to help the 4 banger.
I think that Toyota just isn’t handling the latest emissions as well. I would get a previous model when Toyota was crushing it. Your Sequoia is a great example. Also, it seems like the trans logic is purely to reduce cylinder pressure, not for power, not for smoothness. It can get awkward.

For the extra 30 grand, the grenadier better feel better. The solid "thunk" noise comes from the butyl sound mat automakers slap on the back sides of large flat sheet metal panels. I'm pretty sure Toyota saved that for the GX to give it a more premiun sound over the cheaper LC. Youd think they'd give the first edition the Lexus touch under the surface for the extra money they charged for it.
Theres a video idea for you. How to make the 250 feel more premium and record a video popoing off the door panels and layering sound deadening in the doors. Good video for revenue with all your subscribers.
A Toyota Land Cruiser first edition is basically the same price as a Grenadier
The gx (and I am sure for the LC) has the cheapest feeling door. The metal around the glass literally bends with a few fingers pinching it and moving it around.. the metal is just like 1/8” thick
@@mcwendel8066 well considering you cant but a first edition LC brand new, its considered vaperware. Starting price is 58k base LC. Base grenadier is 75k. You're also getting quite a lot of heft for the money on the grenadier.
@@Yoyomanmanholla all cars use thin sheet metal. Thats why it's called a door skin. It's how you fold that metal to give it rigidity.
@ none of the vehicles I have demonstrated this thin, malleable metal frame around the glass. My 5th gen 4Runner felt solid and my grenadier’s construction is couple tiers above what the 250/gx felt like.
On the gx. The b pillar portion of the front doors felt so bendy that I would never shut the door via pushing on that portion
240 miles of range for a 4cyl turbo with hybrid seems like a move backwards. EPA should revise their regulations so the previous generation of engines might once again come back.

Ben, do a turning circle comparison between the INEOS, 250 and 200. You’d be the first in the world to do one.
I don't get it. With this emissions and EPA stuff, why are makers like Mercedes still making G63s and Toyota is making these turbo 4s.
If you compare the 250 to FJ Cruiser, you basically have to pay twice for very similar capabilities (and yes I'm aware that the FJ had some inconveniences and bare bone electronics). Ineos Grenadier kept that bare bone approach, while Toyota decided to bring the lower grade LC Prado as a 250, and not the widely popular 70 series. I just don't get it.
With inflation the 250 is barely more than the FJ, comparing the 1958 with discounts it’s close to same price
@@rickper mid-grade FJ was $28k, and you'd often find them at a discount toward the end of each model season. Unless you're comparing the final edition which they marked up quite steeply, FJ was quite an affordable vehicle at the time.
@ I have 2 13 trail teams, my sticker was in high 30’s, with inflation that’s like 51k, so not so diff in price with inflation
grenadier is a new brand, it's a bit risky to have it for the first year, parts wise...
This engine is purely for emissions compliance, has nothing to do with mpg.
I would not own a Grenadier just based on the looks alone, but hey that is just me. Plus, the gas milage in the Grendier sucks.

A small V6 turbo would've made more sense. Smoother acceleration, not as much heat build up so fast, a little more reliable in the long run. But of course, Toyota had to be cheap and make everything modular for the Taco, LC, and 4runner.
