Props for all involved in making this. Grosso admitting like the majority of us being part of the problem is a massive thing. Be an ally is what I am taking from this.
I brought up this video series at my local skate park. Just the same as Jeff (RIP) I admit that I was once part of the problem and it warms my heart to see other skaters supporting the message and the movement.
@@flexxmobil I was doing it a little bit too without even knowing i was doing it lol We just gotta make sure we're solid parents and teachers (from here on out) 🤘☠️🤘
Always liked Elissa a lot and the older I get the more I respect her. Twenty years ago I didn't really think how unusual it was for a woman to be a pro skater because one of my best friends in skating was a girl, but especially now with a new generation of awesome female skaters really ripping it out there, who grew up with her as an example I realize how monumental her contribution to skateboarding probably was. That and she just oozes style.
This video should have way more views. I'm a straight white guy and could watch this kind of stuff all day. Two super rad people having a pretty honest and revealing conversation just like we should probably all try to do. RIP GROSSO
Damn Grossman my eyes where getting sweaty from your intro . It's like you're still here and I'm still waiting for the next loveletters and geeking out when the next episode drops ❤❤
Elissa Steamer is a fucking gem I love her so much and always look up to her she ran with the most important skaters and she's just as if not MORE IMPORTANT in the skate community ❤️💯💪 love you girl keep being you and never stop!
Cut Elissa off at 10:17 and proceeded to take an epic run leaving Elissa on the deck, so to speak. Notice how she leans in and allows him the space to process. Part of being an ally is checking yourself and listening without feeling the compulsion to sound off about your own truth. I really want to know what Elissa was going to say. So grateful for Grosso using his platform the way he did. I mean no disrespect.
Did u mean at 10:07? I kept rewinding it and didnt know what u were talkin bout til i finally rewound to 10:00 then saw the sceeen slide right at 10:07........but i saw Grosso get amped up about a thought and Elissa let him continue, thats prolly what u meamt then huh
probably my favorite love letter interview ever. jeff really just listens and takes it all in, it's so awesome to see. RIP Grosso, thanks for everything you did :)
I literally had a picture of Elissa steamer in Tony hawks pro skater 3 taped to my lunch box in primary school and I was so proud and happy. I wanted to be just like Elissa and hopefully I’ll learn to skate soon. Love you Elissa and keep smiling, we love you ❤️🤘
Grosso is the fucking man!!! I love that he stood up for something he believed in so strongly, even though you can see he struggles with the verbiage, Im sure it mean so much to so many people, that its OK just to be you. RIP Jeff Grosso
There has been a lot of posts taken down about rollerbladers and I want to set this straight. Jeff never cared I was rollerblader. Elissa treated me amazing in Fort Myers. Jamie Thomas stopped filming in Miami to watch me skate and clapped. I worked woodward for many years and most of my friends skateboarded. This isn't about hate on rollerblading. That is like us bad mouthing bmx riders for chunky ledges. Kids did say bad things to everyone at times and it sucks. Tony Hawk and I talked about how rollerblading got a bad deal. The best thing I've ever heard was Matt Milligan say "I like rollerblading because it is hated just like how skateboarding was when I started." So yes.... there is love all around. Go be you, and have fun doing it
I don't know man, this might be Grosso's best work. He is clearly uncomfortable at times but he has the courage to just be there and be uncomfortable and do it anyway. Because it's important. RIP.
Oh, man. If they still have any other longer interviews he did for Loveletters over the years they should upload them. Or maybe just some highlights. I'm sure there's a lot of great stuff that just couldn't fit on the episodes.
True but it has to be part of some pc agenda , and that’s what’s sad , Jeff is gone all the love letters edits should drop not just the ones that fit the new narrative
@@gorryman I doubt there'd be a lot in his interviews that wouldn't fit within the scope of modern cultural sensibilities. The most controversial stuff would no doubt be about freestyle. Some of those interviews might be considered inflammatory just because of his treatment of a certain much-beloved professional skateboarder.
@@gorryman you're a complete idiot. Showing respect to those who are different is not 'pc agenda.' It's called being a decent human being and important for the culture so more people aren't as stupid as you are.
She seems chill dude.. def a rad Skate legend from a time when skating blew the fuck up! Thank tony hawk for that! Lol I remember the style taking hold! lol I’d die for some old birdhouse or world industries gear now.. CCS WAS MY JAM
I think we can all agree that this dude will leave a huge hole in our world... but mostly for myself i hope oliver is ok! and i hope he feels the love from us all spreading towards him!!!
I honestly don't think they could have done this without Elissa and BA. They're the two most respected LGBTQ+ skateboarders imo. Elissa's point about skateboarding not being as inclusive on the inside as we think it is interesting.I don't know if that has a deeper meaning like how skaters are marketed or if shes talking about dudes at skateparks not being welcoming enough. I honestly think it comes from a lack of communication on both sides. going to the skatepark where you don't know anyone is intimidating to everyone not just women and LGBTQ people(granted I would imagine its worse) but I could be wrong, but I think its a "they're as scared of you as you are of them".
I realise language is everything! Sometimes I realy dont want to offend anyone but feel like i am walking a tightrope with the other person and this creates tension which i wish that wasnt there. As in i want to hang out and be apreciated for my vibe, not the conotation that somebody else has with a certain word.
Skateboarding used to be way more inclusive actually if you skated you were crew now it’s a bunch of jocks wearing Nike skating smooth parks and hating on newcomers
Grosso is my favorite.. legend!! It's all about acceptance I think that's the word that these two were looking for in many points in this interview.. acceptance.. grosso sucks,!! grosso forever ,!!! Rip my friend....it's a lifestyle go out and fucking shred
Growing up i never experienced an overwhelming feeling of inclusion. From the skate community and outside. Everyone has always only treated me decent when i had something to offer. And as a poor kid, you have nothing so therefore youre treated as nothing. Dogged for your ride, dogged for your clothes dogged for your lack of skill. My only inclusive feeling ever was alone. Isolated and away from anyone. Nights skating is the best skating.
Now you just need to apologise to all the other action sports and riders you have put down in the past. Skateboarding has alot to answer for after years and year's of hate culture.

"and the last thing i want to do is beat up on somebody else and make them uncomfortable or make them not feel safe " like skateboarders have been doing to bladers (and now scooters) for decades when they go to a skatepark. they say all this then champion a magazine or brands that outwardly have been teaching generations for decades to hate others because they brought the wrong toy to the skatepark. love the sentiment but you cant have it both ways
Don’t forget the hate on bmx as well. I hope we all can be more accepting to others in the future. I’m going through things in my head that I’ve said in the past... I regret them but now know I need to be a better loving human. Learning is powerful. Thanks to all for this video.
I see your point but to compare homophobia to making fun of a stereotype of scooter riders getting in skaters way isn’t fair. Yeah we could be more accepting of everyone.
@@Dylan-li2nf i wasn't trying to compare the two. i was pointing out the hypocrisy of saying your inclusive and for all people then promote magazines and brands that go out of their way (for decades) to do the complete opposite
But it’s not hypocritical. Hating people for something that’s not their choice is different for hating someone for what they choose to do.
