Beste Antony, Een jaar of vijf geleden besloot ik een mooi bedrag te besteden aan een uitzonderlijke akoestische gitaar. Ik had er al een vijftal : Epiphone, Fender, eenVintage 12string, een klassieke Aria, ... allemaal niet slecht, maar geen enkele uitzonderlijk goede. In elektrische gitaren had ik al 4 toppers : Gibson Les Paul Deluxe ( gekocht in 1978 ), Fender Stratocaster, hollow body Heritage, PRS ... Ik zocht maandenlang en bespeelde talloze Gibsons, Martins ,Santa Cruz, Taylor, e.a. maar was nooit helemaal tevreden over de klank, zelfs in het duurdere gamma, met uitzondering van enkele die zo duur waren dat ze buiten budget vielen. Geheel toevallig, na een tegenvallende test van een tweedehandse Santa Cruz, viel ik op een Huss & Dalton, dreadnought model, en eindelijk vond ik de klank die ik zocht : deze van de Gibsons uit de jaren zestig. Ik kocht hem tweedehands voor twee derden van de nieuwprijs en ben er dolgelukkig mee : elke snaar klinkt geprononceerd en vol, de resonantie van de zeer lichte klankkast is eindeloos, alleen de hals is iets minder soepel dan ik zou wensen. Vooral voor fingerpicking is deze gitaar top, voor rechttoe rechtaan strummen geven ze bijna te véél klank als je begrijpt wat ik bedoel : dan is het slagritme op de snaren ook van belang, en dat gaat verloren in het klankvolume. Daarvoor gebruik ik dan meestal een 12string of andere gitaar met minder klankkwaliteit. Deze gitaren kosten nieuw zo' n 4500 dollar, dus niet echt goedkoop, maar in deze prijsklasse echt bij de top als je het mij vraagt en plenty of value for money.
I like them both, and I had my eye on the Seagull last year. Since I am new to guitar, I am holding off on the $600.00 and up guitars for now! Maybe next year when I feel my playing is worthy of an higher priced guitar, I will grab one. Right now, the most expensive acoustic I have is an Orangewood Oliver live, that I bought during one of their blemished sales! I still can't find the flaw! LOL
Still own my trusted Sigma OOOME+ (my beginners guitar since 2019), and recently bought a Martin SC-10E. Prices 300€ - 1600€. I was saving my money to buy the Martin D18 or D28, spend a lot of time comparing, also with Seagulls and other types of birds, but finally made a decision after life checking the Martin SC-10E. I was convinced the sound was nicer than the other Martins, and now, after 2 months I have no regrets at all. The Sigma and the Martin have their differences, the Martin is more outspoken, and even the bass notes which I love in the Martins D18 and 28, came through (though not completely) and I could live with that, as I had a lot of other sounds to learn to use now. That's the nice thing, I learned not to buy a guitar because it's famous or whatever, I try to listen to the sound, see if it is ringing a bell with me, if not, I leave it, if it is, I'll listen longer to it. My favorite guitar is the Collings D2H, but maybe I'll never buy it, who knows ... .
Nice video, Anthony. Personally, I'm very satisfied with the sound of my seventies made (in Japan) Aria 6710 which I bought for some silly €90. I have no idea what the price was back in its days but it features a bolt-on neck and adjustable saddle so I guess it must have been at least a mid-range priced guitar. Just want to say: I bought this from folks who had it stuck in the attic for years and years. Probably their son or daughter once started playing guitar, then gave up and there you go. I mean: one can really get a bargain with a bit of patience and keeping your eyes open. All I had to do was give it a set of new strings and adjust the truss rod a bit. So happy with it and when i take it to a jam, my friends keep being amazed by the sound of it. By the end of the jam, about everyone has had their hands on it. :-)
Ik heb ben niet in het bezit van een akoestische gitaar maar heb wel een elektrische gitaar van het Noorse merk Morgan guitars model lp 40 van €300 (wel made in China) deze speelt echter fantastisch en is qua afwerking goed, dus als ik ooit een akoestische gitaar zou kopen denk ik dat ik voor hetzelfde merk ga.
Seagul is a GREAT guitar brand!!! Don’t underestimate it! And I wouldn’t consider a $600 guitar a ‘budget brand guitar”. Of course my personal opinion.
Ooit een dure Martin en een Taylor (+/- 3000 euro) 2 dagen in mijn bezit gehad! Vond ik niks! Heel tevreden met Godin, stukken goedkoper en klinkt voor mij meer dan OK! ;-)

They didn't sound too different, maybe due to the mic. But the seagull low e note sounded like it had a rattle.

For that kind of money I would go with an Eastman E1D.
I found the S6 to be nicer than Martin but a little bit dull nethertheless.

Laat ons zeggen dat beide gitaren geen hoogvliegers zijn. Vraag mij af welke snaren er gebruikt worden want dat is soms een wereld van verschil.
