I’m a 72 year old or young granny and just bought my first gun. I chose a Taurus 942 revolver with 3” barrel. I had tried a friend’s S & W Airlite 38 and the trigger was heavy, recoil and hammer was murder on my arthritic hand. Even though my “cheapo” Taurus in all black is heavier, I had no trouble hitting the target using double and single shots. Yes, I realize the 22 rounds aren’t as potent as 38, but better than a fry pan.
TAURUS MAKES A GREAT GUN IT NEVER LET U DOWN
You did the right thing. So many people tell first time women to get an air weight 38 and that has to be one of the worse choices since they are most likely not use to the recoil. 2 or 3 inch small frame in the 25oz range is a better choice. And Taurus revolvers are great.
I can tell you guys from experience with three different women that the lightweight revolvers in .38 will kick way too hard with +P rounds. So if your lady is a novice or has never shot and you choose one of these small frame lightweight 38s, just start with standard 38 ammo NOT +P. It will intimidate her and hurt her hand and she won't want to shoot anymore. Trust me. No +P and no .357.
Anyone reading this a year later try and find wad cutters. Federal gold match is pretty great. There’s plenty of good research on the ballistics out if a snubby and the recoil is way more manageable.
Yup. As soon as I saw the first two were air weights… this vid lost credit.
"Holding a gun is like trying on a pair of shoes." Sure hope my wife does not want as many guns as she has pairs of shoes -- I would go broke.
It’s a win win. Unless you and she are different shoe sizes. Then you can only shoot her guns and not wear her shoes. 😁
ROTFLMAO....FUNNY....MY WIFE'S CLOSET....CANNOT SEE THE FLOOR FOR SHOES....
☠️☠️☠️
I guess it would only be fair, as I already own more guns than my wife has pairs of shoes. ;-)
If she follows their advice, you'll be buying multiple guns because she won't be happy with any of them.
My wife has a Ruger SP101 hammerless DAO in .357 magnum. I swapped out the factory grips for a Hogue rubber grip and she's very happy with it. That's no sissy pistol for sure.
My wife does as well. I suggest getting the Wolff's spring kit for it . I installed the 10 pound mainspring (only- didn't mess with the trigger return spring, etc.) and lightly polished the pivot pin. Smooth, easy and reliable.
Charter Arms Professional. 7 shot 32 HR Mag. 3in barrel. I think that will be my next revolver.
My wife has her choice of all the handguns but she likes her mint condition S&W 15-2 above anything else. She is super accurate, practices consistently in double action, and loves her S&W. She shoots the 8 inch Anaconda, the 6 inch King Cobra, and my 8 inch 29-2 regularly, She loves the revolvers. Something about Her and Jesse James having the same birthday.
Check out the new Taurus 856 six shot.. j frame revolver... Also comes in 856 UL....UL stands for ultralight.... only 16 oz..six shots of .38+p
Miss Maggie's smile on this one. Thank you very much. GOD Bless and Be Blessed!!!
Get her a Ruger SP101 .327 federal magnum with a 3" barrel. You can shoot .32 short, .32 S&W long, .32 H&R magnum, or .327 federal magnum. So many options depending on how much recoil she can handle, and it holds 6 rounds. And the old Colt .38 Detective Special like LBJ's pal Jack Ruby used to silence Oswald is a classic that will go up in value to collectors.
I always recommend the Ruger SP101!
EAA Windicator is a bit cheaper, 6 round capacity, and the build is still great IMO.
The best guns,( he has in stock), still some good information, but personally I think a Ruger LCR 327 Federal Magnum loaded with 32 HR magnum beats all of his suggestions, especially when you factor in it's six round capacity. Or, as I read in another comment, a Charter Arms 32 HR magnum with seven rounds might be even better.
I'm Donna and I love my Smith and Wesson revolvers. One of them is the AIR WEIGHT. The other one is a M&P Bodyguard. Thanks for the video and info!!!!
The ruger LCR is available in .22lr, and 22 mag. Not the best options, but better than a stick. Great for anyone recoil sensitive.
My mom is getting old and wanted to switch to a revolver. She is left handed found a charter arms for her seems to be a decent 38.
Great choices , I liked the Ruger , that`s it - you-all have a great day .
I think if I were going to make a suggestion, I'd say a revolver that chambers .22 magnum. It's a potent round that doesn't recoil very heavily and you can get carry revolvers that will chamber 8 rounds.
It's a good option.
I’m a man and I wouldn’t hesitate to carry a .22wmr. They are worth looking at also.
My vote is for a Ladysmith. They tend to have better triggers. Next would be the Ruger due to it's superior trigger. Get the concealed hammer as you do not want to cock the hammer in a "situation". Take care and God bless. Ken
Fudd alert!!!
My LCR is nice because you can shoot .32 shorts or longs for light recoil or magnums if you can handle more. The problem is the .32 longs don’t seem too accurate in it. Loads that are accurate in my .32 long revolvers shoot worse in the .327 magnum. My wife doesn’t like noise and recoil, so I have a 9 shot .22 revolver loaded just in case she needs it.
I don’t get it. When I go to my range I see the women shooting the same guns as the men. Actually, I’d like to see the guy who tells my wife that the gun she is shooting is too big for a woman. Good luck with that one. 😂
Thystaff Thywill Wow! In the 48 years that I have been shooting with my wife that is the first time I ever heard anyone say that revolver’s are for the novice shooter and I own quite a few of both. Seriously, first time I ever heard anyone say that! Thanks!
Excellent choice of recommendation of a revolver👍👍. Regarding caliber he should have offered 257 Magnum instead of 38/357 !! You typically get it one extra shot for the space it takes in the cylinder. The 257 magnum has been out for the last decade. My recommendation for a novice gun owner would be Ruger SP-101 or GP-100.With LOTS OF AMMO because it is not as popular as 38/357 ammunition. My next revolver on my list to buy would be SP-101in a 3-4 inch barrel🤔🤔.Note currently have lots of handguns SP 101 stubbie would fit a nich.
I think you meant to type the .327 magnum or the .32 magnum, which the .327 will also chamber and fire. There is no .257 magnum.
Picked my wife up a S&W Model 637, she likes having the hammer so she can fire single action. You can work a single action very easily. All the hype about it being too light, not enough rounds and they wont like it...well It lives in her purse and is always on her person so theres that. And she shoots it well.
The trigger on the S&W Airweight was just far to hard to pull for my girl. She could pull it the first time, but after that the gun would just shake as she strained to get a round out. I know that woman are attracted to the simplicity of the revolvers, but 10-12lb resistance and long pull of the triggers can make them basically unusable for some -- especially an older woman or someone without strong fingers.
Apex spring kit. I did this for my fiancé in a j-frame; drops the trigger pull 2-3lbs, no issues with light strikes, etc.
My wife used to carry my Rossi M66 but finally graduated to a Glock 23 and now carries a Springfield XDS .45 full time.
Nothing wrong with revolvers but I always tell people carry the max they can handle.
I absolutely love my Dads Ruger LCR with the CTC laser grips. I bought him a Alien Gear holster for it. Awesome concealed carry revolver !!!!!!!!!!
Wife did a great job , My family love your Videos thanks
Thanks again.38 is about right.
S&W also make an extremely fine 22 WMR 7 shot Revolver that’s more pricey than their 38’s-- I think that would be a fine carry weapon for anyone,,, not just women.
You'd think so until you realize that the ballistics are essentially identical for a 22WMR out of a 2" barrel as a 22LR out of a 3" barrel. (See Ballistics By the Inch website). That being the case, the 2" magnum makes no sense at all. Were I advising my daughter, between the two I'd direct her to the 3" S&W 317... more capacity, lighter, cheaper to shoot, and more accurate.
Could you please tell the pounds of trigger pull for each of these? I have arthritis and am looking for a home defense gun.
#2 is best for me.
Interview with a female employee was far more informative
Great and very informative!! Would be very helpful to have the make model and capacity in caption in the future. Thank you for making this awesome video!
Go to a gun range that has a variety of rental guns and try them out and see what's right for you. These suggestions are great, but personal experience is the only thing that can tell you what is right for you.
Kimber k6s, beats all of those. Expensive, but worth it!
I am being told by different sources and stores that the k6s break after 500 round or so. Heard anything?
@@zincman1995 look up all the reviews, that will answer your question
@@johnrodriguez3016 Opps, Ok thanks
Ruger LCR in 9mm. The gun is a bit snappy but for what it is designed for it is not bad with the hoage tamer grips on it.
82raptor The SP101 in 9 is also snappy, surprisingly.
Ruger LCR in 327 fed mag, alternates with my 605. Wife sports a Taurus model 65 full sized 357 mag
I think that these revolver in 9mm may be better for women. If I ever get a revolver for self-defence it has to use moon clips for fast reloading.
GP 100 is a little lighter and still a nice trigger compared to the Smith. I have both.
I see you found a Smith fanboy
Their made in USA . Where about a Glock
All my self defense revolvers are double action only with no hammer spur for easy pocket carry.
It would help if she handled the weapon an commented on each.
Exactly. I watched the video to help me with a choice for a first purchase. I was disappointed that they didn't show a female handling any of them, which would have helped me. Reading the comments was more helpful than the video.
IMO, Colt has always had the sweetest triggers.
About their only saving grace. They all seem to have a crisp action but their quality control is all over the place.
Pre 1982 S&W products is where I gravitate
Got my wife a 642 for first Christmas gift. In good with the father in law ever since. Wadcutter target rounds is what we feed it. Too snappy with +P
1st. and I think 38 Special with laser.
I carried on my ankle a S&W Airweight 642 for backup once. Too much recoil, and not good unless the target was 25 feet away and slow firing. Hated it. No use for it nowadays, and I would not recommend it at all. Goes for most small .38 caliber revolvers imo. 686 .357? Yes. But, a semi auto 9mm is much better, again imo. .38 is very expensive to shoot, and has less power than a 9mm these days.
I agree 100%, went to the range with the wife and rented a S&W Airweight 38spl. and she hated every shot fired. I found it a bit annoying to shoot as well. Best advise, try different revolvers and pistols and let the lady decide for herself.
I have revolvers made by S&W as well as Colt. Colt is superior for my wife due to much smoother and lighter double action trigger pulls.
I have a rock island m200 with extended barrel, I’m now looking for a stubby may go with the rock island m206. Both less than 1/2 the price of the Smith’s or the Ruger $230 range opposed to $500 range.
So many great Firearms on the market for a woman.
Have wife and daughter who both fancy the 12 gauge at home, but - sadly - can't get in pistol version. So it's 38spec (for small size) and 9mm. Wife is big fan of 44 mag, but too big for CCW of course.
Just the video I was looking for but you didn't mention the model numbers or any way to specifically identify what guns you were talking about---just the manufacturer.Pretty bad.
I think for a beginner/novice shooter, man or woman, I wouldn't recommended any snubbed nose revolvers. Reason being is because of the recoil and long trigger pull specially for concealed carry self defense stressful situation.
How about a Ruger or Taurus 22, 22 mag, Charter Arms makes a 32. And, Taurus makes a 380 revolver.
Should have included Charter Arms and Taurus.
.not 3 Smiths
For a defense revolver - I will, almost always shoot in single action for the first shot. Five rounds are plenty for me since I don.t intend to get into a protracted gunfight. The trade off between a really lightweight piece and a heavier weapon is the recoilexperienced.
My wife has a S&W 442 she likes, but has gone with an EZ-Shield and she loves it
russ elder
Was with a friend when his wife got an EZ .380 about a week or so ago. She has a lot of grip issues and she shot it well, first time out of the box. One word of caution about the mags on these guns. They have a follower button that runs along the outside of the mag to make it easier to load the mags. All of the openings on the mag allow sand and crud to get into the mag if dropped or carried in a pocket. She dropped one mag on the ground and the sand that got in the mag absolutely jammed it up, BAD! We had to take the mag apart, after unloading it. The directions are very vague regarding taking the mag apart and especially putting it back together. After we cleaned out the mag, there was a lot of trial and error due to the follower button. Finally got it back together but the lesson is that you absolutely cannot drop these mags in the sand if you might need to use them again, soon.
@@grigorirasputin5020 thank you sir for the info
I would lean toward the Ruger or the 686+. 642/442's are murder, even with 158 gr non +p ammo.
I know this is a remake of an old video. I think an update could include a 327 LCRX, very nice option.
Where do we buy 38 special ammo. Have not been available in my area for a long time.
Hammer less design can be fired right inside purse if needed
I'd never use an exposed hammer on a J frame.
Because I use my support hand index finger on the trigger guard and thumb on the back strap for recoil management.
If you actively use this technique with enough force. You'll see an immediate improvement with your hammerless J frame results
He never mentioned the name (brand) of that fifth gun😖😢 do anyone know what brand that last gun is?
Smith wesson 686
As a woman a 38 has to much recoil. I wouldn't want any of those revolvers. You need more suggestions imo.
Good for her! There's always "that guy" smh.
Felt recoil depends a lot on the weight of the pistol. Rant: I don’t know why people say women can’t run a slide. They can. You just have to show them how and let them practice. And you don’t have to rack the slide after the draw if you keep one in the chamber anyway. A reliable semi auto is a better choice for most women.
@Thystaff Thywill 327 has less than 38 spcl? I have not owned a 327 mag but I expect it to be more than 38 and less than 357 recoil
@Thystaff Thywill ahh,ok ,well technically your not wrong, after I read this I went researching 327 f mag and apparently you can do just as 38 in a 357 and run a few light 32 Cal in one,I didnt ever think about that I always ignored the 327,now I can kinda see why it was created. I have 357,44,454 so I never seen the point in 327 when I can just use a little brother in those Chambers I do have but yes I imagine a 327 would be a decent choice for weaker less experienced shooters so thank you... We learn something everyday.
There are a couple small 9mm revolvers out there(although I really don't see the point),aside from that a 32s&w but good luck finding ammo,I recently had an individual with bad arthritis in her wrists that we spent about a month trying to find something right for her and ended up with 22magnum...hope this helps in some way I know it's frustrating for those that have a hard time with 38spcl and 9mm it takes time to come to a common ground on what you think is "powerful" enough yet compact and convenient while also being shootable, I always loved 454/44/357 45acp ect. Until I injured my good hand I'm just getting back to 38 & 9mmworking my way up again as I rehabilitate ,I can't wait to be throwing 357's out of SAA 's again...I miss playing weekend cowboy, lol
Good Job
What was the point in this video??? 4 5 shot guns, that HE even admits is the same gun, and then a 7 shot .357!!! Polar opposites of revolvers!!!
MY CHOICE IS THE HIGHEST PRICE Smith and Wesson Revolvers
Smith 642 Airweight.
What model smith is the last one? The 7 shot?
686
You go girl!!!!
Prices pretty please!
Luffaman of course they vary but offering a range wouldn’t hurt someone looking to quickly decide which gun to pick. I hope I’m not asking for the stars and the moon here.
Which model would be best for vaginal concealment? My girlfriend complains that her model 29 S&W is too big and uncomfortable at times.
Pulls out his most expensive guns. How about a Taurus 85? Pretty sure women would like it just as much without giving up an arm or leg for it.
j frame .38s are a terrible idea for most women. They are not going to practice with that aweful recoil.. .32 long is probably the best option for a revolver.
Can anyone tell me what model the last Smith & Wesson was?
All too light and all have too hard a trigger pull and too much recoil except the 357, for a small woman. The 357 shooting 38 is the only valid choice here unless the woman has man strength
.22
The one complaint I hear concisterntly is the snubnosed revolvers are notoriously difficult to shoot accurately. What is your opinion?
They are tough but practice makes a big difference
Just like there are no perfect cars, planes or boats there are also no perfect guns. It depends on your application and what type of trade offs your willing to make that makes the most sense for you. Good luck, safe shooting.
It takes lots of practice but perhaps shooting a three inch barrel revolver is better.
Nope. The women I know would prefer to carry a semiautomatic pistol over any revolver. The large revolvers nice to shoot but too heavy and bulky for them to carry. Those tiny little ones conceal well but also would dig into their hand. So they wouldn’t want to practice much and would not be terribly proficient or confident with one. I love revolvers but I don’t consider them a novice’s gun in most cases.
642 or Ruger LCR with 38 special!
Which model is the revolver at 4:13?
Anton Donchev S&W bodyguard special
Awesome
Heard that women should get a bigger than 38 bc its heavier so less recoil.
No Windicator?
I totally disagree with this video. Lite weight snub nose .357 are nicknamed "pocket rocket" for a reason. They are a beast to shoot! I brought one, S&W 640-1 .357. The first shot I thought I broke my wrist. Airweight is too light and the kickback is rough. All steel .357 with a longer barrel is better. You can shoot. 38 in a .357, that's better. Women, read reviews from women and try the guns out yourself is a must. Normally, I love the reviews on this page. Sorry, this time I don't.
Why not a .327?
You gave the model # on the first one but not the rest. I am looking to get his and hers revolvers but this wasn't helpful.
Ladies if someone is a threat or nueisense you need a.454 Casull.
@Luffaman ah, no not really...
I would never recommend an "Air weight" or polymer frame revolver for a woman. There isn't enough weight there to tame the recoil.
He doesn't mention the model numbers.
Any gun a women can handle is the approximate one for her
Hey Bang Bang Bo. Did you get the Professional ?
What is the name of the last gun mentioned? She interrupted him just as he was going to say the name. 357 gun.
It’s sad to see the perpetuation of a scandium alloy hammer less j frame being the go to option offered to women. No reason in the world that a k L or N frame stainless revolver isn’t perfect for a woman new to firearms. Much more comfortable to shoot. Higher capacity and still totally concealable in a purse or iwb.
Any short barrel will hurt your hand
Smith and Wesson Ruger Colt all are great guns the gun in your hands might mean your life these days a gun and common sense stay home at night and shoot thru the door
My wife doesn't like snubbies she prefers larger size wide frame with at least 4 inch barrel and nothing smaller then 357 mag she carries in a hide away in a purse
Mine is a size queen as well
Whats single or double action?
Ms. campbell, the term single or double action refers to how the trigger works. In single action the hammer is pulled back manually and then pulling the trigger just releases the already cocked hammer. In double action you just pull the trigger which causes the hammer to draw back and then release (i.e. the trigger accomplishes the two actions of cocking and releasing) double action is quick but requires more force and is more difficult to shoot accurately.
Of course not mentioning price because no one has a budget right??
A woman can't shoot a 357? I never knew that! As for the hammer.. A hammer is fine, and a shrouded hammer is good. Hammerless??? If they sold for $4.95, it would be five bucks too much.
What is the 5th one?
If i were a betting man I would say that it was a S&W 686 Plus (model 164192)...
I like your vids but this guy is the worst. Did not go into detail why he preferred those particular guns. He never mentioned important things like weight, etc. Annnd the Taurus .38's are a great gun for a better price which can be attractive to women as well. Please keep this guy out of the vids..
Show me how to load it?
The best pistol is the one you have on you .
