a note to all pre-2000 owners the only way for any of these to work properly is to make sure you have "jumper wire hack" for the diagnostic terminal under the hood!! i spent many months with alot of different scan tools. but none had FULL access and most wouldnt function fully until i jumped the wire with a 1" piece of wire under the diagnostic cap found the video on youtube accidentally but THANK GOD I did !! everything works now :)

Another that must be considered is Scan Master ELM - this one is extremely comprehensive and, best off all, GRAPHS sensor outputs so that they can be reviewed after a test drive.
Just to clear up the general confusion that surrounds the Fuel Trims: Adaptiv Fuel Trim - Low engine load - Low engine speed Multiplicative Fuel Trim - Medium engine loads - medium engine speed Both of these are long term and integrator is the short term fuel trims. As for WOT operation the engine doesn't use closed loop, but defaults to a pre-programmed map for WOT and runs the engine rich.
Big fan, Thank you for giving the courage buy my 1st E46. I am at an impasse and can't get support from seller with the BMW Scanner 1.4. I have a Widows XP laptop and think I've been installing the software correctly. No issue installing the software. Nest step - 1st connected hardware OBD module to car then connected cable from OBD to laptop which opens install assistant that recognized new hardware and followed prompts. That's where I'm stuck. It appears to be looking for a driver it can't find. Your input is much appreciated. Thank you again for all the great videos

If you want to get a dcan cable, it's very important to get one with a green board. They come in green, white, and blue. The ones with the green board are so far the most reliable. My white board cable failed on me (burn marks).

Victor Gallegos yes it will, both Apple and Android.. it’s definitely nice to have with you on a long trip. I was 1200 miles way from home and my car’s electronics started flipping out with a message on the iDrive screen that said “electrical problem, do not drive car”. So I pulled out the Carly dongle and connected to my iPhone and determined that it was my RDC.. aka tire pressure monitor module which took several other modules down.. so I googled where it was and unplugged it.. all good for the trip home. It’s definitely good to have a scanner on hand with these newer cars.
you're videos are very informative and you are well educated about your subjects ! I bought the Pa Soft and I'm playing with it . I got a used LCM because my turn signals , hazard and high beams didn't work . The used LCM gave me signals . Hazards but the high beams still not working ! The one thing that changed with high beams is the indicator blue light comes on now when signal switch is pushed in , anything in the LCM coding that would turn high beams off?

Did I install something wrong? My son is trying to diagnose the convertible top not working on his 2000 323ci. Installing the software has made me crazy. Lol

It's been a while since you made this video. Dude I bought a d+k can cable and the cd it comes with is not straight forward at all. The app is cracked which to me is whatever but the instructions for the install seems extremely deceptive. I am gonna look into the other scan tool you mentioned. Idk I just got major trust issues. Especially when these devices are sold for so cheap. Something seems fishy about it to me. As for your reviews and expertise, I have been following you for years and do trust your judgment.
This is so damn helpful, I got INPA working on an xp virtual machine, which I had to patch together from several sources which wouldn't work on their own. It's useful, but any information where I can get explanations of what the values mean is great.
Yeah I don't even know--gotta speak German, I think. But take a look on the message boards, e46fanatics and bimmerworld and bimmerfest and others. There are boards specifically for coding. It's never been worth my time to really look hard for more info on INPA--I just plod along and figure out what I can manage.
@@50sKid too bad you can't copy and paste within inpa rather than manually typing in 20 letter German compound words into Google translate. I use it for live data but its much easier with ista or PA soft.
very good videos , you have helped me get over some of the hurtles of what to expect while working on bmws and what others expect and what they get. you give enough. so far i have inpa, running on vista ... I mite try DIS or PROGMAN because they still un on 32 bit operating system, and the insta d and insta p new software requires more then the xp and vista does to operate, I mite dual boot windows 7 and vista on separate hard drives, just boot log into what ever one i need. Because of your vids I also got AK90 and key cutter.... and have cut the key and stuff already, the things we can do and take for granted I tell you. What got me into BMW, I got 2001 x5 .4.4i e53, I LOVE IT. Been car nerd kinda, so why not right. hopefully all is well with you. Thanks again
Are you charging for the keys? And if so, how much. I'm trying to decide if I want to buy a cutter and how long it will take to make back the investment. Lots of BMWs in my town. I just ordered the AK90 and a blank for my own car but didn't get the EWS 4 adaptor since a quick ISTA scan tells me I have EWS 3.

@@luciferfluerdelis4974 I'm certainly getting one. VW and Audi use the same key style and I called 4 locksmiths until I found one that can do them. $65 just to cut. Thats robbery! People around me have no other choice but to go to the stealership. And in my state they don't license locksmiths. Cut 5 keys at $35 a piece and it would pay for itself and I have the stuff to program EWS keys which I could charge for. Lots of German cars in my town.
with inpa there is program NCS expert that allow you to program/activate blocked functions in your car like DRL lights , panic mode, alarm, and lot more depends what year car you have and units installed in car
Great video bro. So I followed your guide to troubleshoot my electric fan issue as it’s not coming on. I activated the fan using the software and it comes on just fine so this indicates that it’s not a fan issue. Can you guide me what could be the culprit? I even turned the AC on and also removed the thermostat sensor wire but still no luck. It doesn’t come on unless I activate it from software. I’ll appreciate any help.

I am about to rebuild the disa valve, as I hear a really small rattle sound inside of the intake manifold. My question is, I can use inpa to check this? Or, when the engine is runing, I can just unplug and the sound should disappear? And if so, ecu will stock an error that will remains there even if I will plug it back? Thanks!!
Awesome video, I just bought two obd2 read scanners for code reading, Autel Maxiscan MS300 and MS509 for factory specific code reading. Works well but cannot do reprogramming like changing the values. The Autel tablet models, higher end units can check for like power window malfunction and steering angle sensor all that. Your units are great value, I should get them too. Great video thanks
have a 2004 BMW x3 2.5i 4d SUV is this required for this year and model?? And is it possible that this make your 4x4 light come on ?? I also did a transmission filter change and a oil change, oil filter change, Bosch spark plugs change, and also did a new facelift shift knob. Does all that have to be reset??and could any of that make the 4x4 light come on? And it's on when I start the VEHICLE but when I drive it turns off and 4x4 functions work.
I really enjoy your videos. Have you experienced where the OBD provides power to the scanner (all lights light up once plugged in) but no data comes to the scanner? I've tried different scanners with the same experience; the lights on the scanner work (it's getting power) but it can't connect with the system to provide any information. I tested with a multimeter and get voltage at the port connections. I cleaned the ports. Still nothing. Any ideas? Really appreciate any help. Thanks!

First off i want to thank you for your very helpful videos they've saved me a ton of $money 2nd I need your help i have an 2001 bmw 325i with cylinder misfires in 2 and 3 cylinders P1345/P1347 with fuel cut off Ive changed the valve Cover, Plugs, coils, Injectors, intake manifold gasket, Dissa valve, and throttle Body O-Ring checked for leaks in boots still shows codes next i will change the fuel pump and fuel filter any suggestions will be greatly appreciated thanks in advance

On some older cars the cable only works if two of the pins are shorted together, so it just depends on the year of car. Get the one with the switch and then you can short it or unshort it as needed
Which one can reset the battery adaption..when you change out the battery it needs to be reset as you know..and which one can also program the locks to automatically lock after driving from a start position? Thanks cool vid
You can code it with NCS Expert. A lot of information on the forums - bimmmerworld, e46fanatics. It's easy if you know what you're doing. For the NCS Expert you will need the K+DCAN cable with the INPA software(They come in pairs)
Hi Jason, I need help with my e60 M5. I’m trying to determine what code 279D is, it sounds like it has to do with my electric fan final stage. But I’m not sure. I’ve read online that it could be the relay. Or some electrical problem. Here’s why I think that, I just changed my gas tank vent valve because of code 273c. I cleared the code but it came back on. I also had code 2b52, for electric transmission oil pump, I couldn’t locate the unit next to my 6 speed transmission. So I clear the code and it didn’t come back on. I talked to the part guy at the dealer he said the unit is on passenger side of the transmission I checked but didn’t see it. Now, I’m not sure what to do. The car has 93K miles. I don’t mind changing parts but when the part is changed the code should clear out but it didn’t, I’m thinking it could be an electrical problem.
No the dealer does not use this software. We use ISTA-D, the program that is older than that is the GT1. Don't buy thirdparty scan tools, they are really bad.

My inner bulbs are on during the daytime I guess for safety, but I would like to turn them off and dealer quoted me 180 dollars to just turn that thing off. I got a k+dcan adapter, came with software that I'm not sure if I need them? ex.BMW TOOLS, VMplayer, DIS/TIS, SSS, FULL DATEN files, I tried to install but I probably need a laptop with XP software. I'm not sure that I need all these programs? I'm still trying to install it. Problem is, it didn't come with any manual, just some install hints. / thanks for your video.

I haven’t fixed it yet but it’s an issue with ms45.1 where the cars knock sensors are adapting incorrectly which I believe is due to the vanos seals going bad, but other than a re flash I’m not sure how to fix it. I have yet to do it because for ms45 there isn’t much tubing available. Renovol or however it is spelt recently released software but kind of expensive. So I’m waiting till more people figure ms45 out or find someone who does

I got this scanner and was excited about doing some changes just to find I can’t find a driver for the actual scan tool itself. I’ve got the software ready to go, it’s the scanner that keeps saying it doesn’t have a driver for. I’m not sure if it’s something I’m doing or the software and tool isn’t any good. Mine looks just like yours but doesn’t have the sticker showing a BMW on the front. Any advice?
hi any idea if it which scan tool will do my car BMW E39 TOURING-2001-525D?? I have a warning light on my dash, its for the self levelling air suspension. my suspension went down a bit over night off side rear... I replaced the rear 2 suspension air bags, replaced the valve block manifold on the suspensions compressor as it was leaking air slightly, replaced 1 of the suspension ride height controllers as it was broken. . after replacing all the parts the suspension is working fine and now stays up, but my problem is:::the dash light is still on the dash !!... be able to scan my e39 touring ,year 2001 as above?. and will it be able to re callibrate the rear suspension manually and then turn the dash light off?. any advice appreciated. many many thx dave

Careful with that. I reset that one time and my throttle started revving up and down repeatedly. I forget at this point how I got it to fix itself, but I was concerned for a moment. Couldn't drive.
Can these tools be used to synchronize the DME and the EWS 4.3 in a 2006 BMW X5 3.0i E53??? I have a no crank no start situation after I "rewrite" the EWS 4.3 with the AK90+ & VXSCAN Adapter, adding a new key. Any idea to fix this???

I got a question. I bought my e46(2000) 323i earlier this year from a guy I know in my area, it was dirt cheap cause he moved out the country for work. I want to work on my car but every time I have to remove the battery, I know theres a thing about resetting and inputting the engine code. how can I do that with little to no information. theres no manual. all I got is the title and keys.

dealers have not used DIS for about 8 to 10 years , we use ISTA-D . for diagnosis and programming too .

I do believe that Ista D is the best software for BMWs working with k- d-can cable
Some things you don't want to activate. I think you can burn the injectors out when there's no fuel being circulated.

K+DCAN and INPA is much better than bmw scanner. Also, bmw don't use INPA anymore, they use ISTA/P now

There's a menu somewhere where you can check all your dashboard switches. Did you find that?
Does the INPA "activate" section you were showing allow turning on/off the cooling fan?

Oh and all the diagnostics and AK90 SW run fine on Windows 10. No need for 7 or XP

Awesome video, I just bought two obd2 read scanners for code reading, Autel Maxiscan MS300 and MS509 for factory specific code reading. Works well but cannot do reprogramming like changing the values. The Autel tablet models, higher end units can check for like power window malfunction and steering angle sensor all that. Your units are great value, I should get them too. Great video thanks
have a 2004 BMW x3 2.5i 4d SUV is this required for this year and model?? And is it possible that this make your 4x4 light come on ?? I also did a transmission filter change and a oil change, oil filter change, Bosch spark plugs change, and also did a new facelift shift knob. Does all that have to be reset??and could any of that make the 4x4 light come on? And it's on when I start the VEHICLE but when I drive it turns off and 4x4 functions work.

I really enjoy your videos. Have you experienced where the OBD provides power to the scanner (all lights light up once plugged in) but no data comes to the scanner? I've tried different scanners with the same experience; the lights on the scanner work (it's getting power) but it can't connect with the system to provide any information. I tested with a multimeter and get voltage at the port connections. I cleaned the ports. Still nothing. Any ideas? Really appreciate any help. Thanks!

I want to be out of context slightly, what's the difference between K Dcan cable with and without switch? Which is the one suitable for BMW 530d e60 2004?

On some older cars the cable only works if two of the pins are shorted together, so it just depends on the year of car. Get the one with the switch and then you can short it or unshort it as needed
Which one can reset the battery adaption..when you change out the battery it needs to be reset as you know..and which one can also program the locks to automatically lock after driving from a start position? Thanks cool vid

You can code it with NCS Expert. A lot of information on the forums - bimmmerworld, e46fanatics. It's easy if you know what you're doing. For the NCS Expert you will need the K+DCAN cable with the INPA software(They come in pairs)

Hi Jason, I need help with my e60 M5. I’m trying to determine what code 279D is, it sounds like it has to do with my electric fan final stage. But I’m not sure. I’ve read online that it could be the relay. Or some electrical problem. Here’s why I think that, I just changed my gas tank vent valve because of code 273c. I cleared the code but it came back on. I also had code 2b52, for electric transmission oil pump, I couldn’t locate the unit next to my 6 speed transmission. So I clear the code and it didn’t come back on. I talked to the part guy at the dealer he said the unit is on passenger side of the transmission I checked but didn’t see it. Now, I’m not sure what to do. The car has 93K miles. I don’t mind changing parts but when the part is changed the code should clear out but it didn’t, I’m thinking it could be an electrical problem.
I put a new(er) transfer case actuator arm on my 2011 BMW X3. The dealer wants $2,200 to replace and reprogram. Can one of these tools reprogram it?
No the dealer does not use this software. We use ISTA-D, the program that is older than that is the GT1. Don't buy thirdparty scan tools, they are really bad.

Awesome video as usual. I would like to know if one of these can turn off my Daytime Running lights. My inner bulbs are on during the daytime I guess for safety, but I would like to turn them off and dealer quoted me 180 dollars to just turn that thing off. With the menu coding, I assume maybe it could be turned off using one of these cables? Thank you
I think the bmw scanner 1.4 can do it.
INPA never was a tool for BMW dealers. It was and still is a tool to be used in BMW factories.
I got a k+dcan adapter, came with software that I'm not sure if I need them? ex.BMW TOOLS, VMplayer, DIS/TIS, SSS, FULL DATEN files, I tried to install but I probably need a laptop with XP software. I'm not sure that I need all these programs? I'm still trying to install it.

I haven’t fixed it yet but it’s an issue with ms45.1 where the cars knock sensors are adapting incorrectly which I believe is due to the vanos seals going bad, but other than a re flash I’m not sure how to fix it. I have yet to do it because for ms45 there isn’t much tubing available. Renovol or however it is spelt recently released software but kind of expensive. So I’m waiting till more people figure ms45 out or find someone who does

If you could do a video of how you set up the drivers on your computer, that would be awesome. I got this scanner and was excited about doing some changes just to find I can’t find a driver for the actual scan tool itself. I’ve got the software ready to go, it’s the scanner that keeps saying it doesn’t have a driver for. I’m not sure if it’s something I’m doing or the software and tool isn’t any good. Mine looks just like yours but doesn’t have the sticker showing a BMW on the front. Any advice?

I have a warning light on my dash,
its for the self levelling air suspension.
my suspension went down a bit over night off side rear...
I replaced the rear 2 suspension air bags,
replaced the valve block manifold on the suspensions compressor as it was leaking air slightly,
replaced 1 of the suspension ride height controllers as it was broken.
.
after replacing all the parts the suspension is working fine and now stays up,
but my problem is:::the dash light is still on the dash !!...
be able to scan my e39 touring ,year 2001 as above?. and will it be able to re callibrate the rear suspension manually and then turn the dash light off?.
any advice appreciated.

Great vid. Finally got it to download but what now lol. Can you make a video preferable with a 2011 e90 with n52 engine or any bmw about INPA. How do we use the software to diagnose issues like fuel trim, maf , 02 sensor to find issues with the car? What should 02 sensors or maf sensor be reading how to get to each menu. There's nothing on youtube in regards to simple diagnosis. Thanks in advanced

Hi i try to find a programme that can run the INPA adaptor K+DCAN , on my E39 523 . After i got the adaptor,(with empty CD) , i've downloaded and tried hard to work with the "Mike's BMW Tools"...So finally im not so sure what i need anymore, I'd appreciate any advise!!

Careful with that. I reset that one time and my throttle started revving up and down repeatedly. I forget at this point how I got it to fix itself, but I was concerned for a moment. Couldn't drive.
Okay I will have to remember that. I was told that when I replace the throttle body the adaptions have to be reset in order for it to function right.
Maybe my case was unique. You'll probably be fine.
How the oil and service intervals can be set or modified with pasoft for like 7000 miles instead of the long 15000??

I got a question. I bought my e46(2000) 323i earlier this year from a guy I know in my area, it was dirt cheap cause he moved out the country for work. I want to work on my car but every time I have to remove the battery, I know theres a thing about resetting and inputting the engine code. how can I do that with little to no information. theres no manual. all I got is the title and keys.
Should both my up stream o2 sensors have the same readings. I have p2098 and p1111
