Flo is the best death metal drummer in all of Canada. He’s got the speed, the grooves, the stamina and hits his drums hard like he’s endorsed and knows he can get more.
Neon he is slightly syncopated - He doesn't play right on the beat; slightly ahead of it when the intensity level drops. It gives a slight level of urgency and gives a lot of contrast to the parts where he does play right on the beat in the slamming parts.
Flo's "sloppiness" is 100% intentional. It's loose playing, and it gives the music a lot of its character. He's not just a drum machine, he's a musician.
People just bitch, if he was like a robot they would bitch about him not feeling it, but since he Cleary does feel it and has some extra movements here and there he's sloppy. Even though the parts were played perfectly.
He has just a more "old school" approach...but the most important thing is that he has the groove even at high speeds, which to my taste is way better than being a perfect machine.
Top three drummers in the scene in my opinion. Saw them live awhile back and he still has it! For anyone interested Drum House just posted like four or five videos of Flo playing.
+BurnThePope0514 Thanks a lot for letting me know Ill def check it out. Flo is one of my favorite drummers especially of this genre of music. So I am always interested and looking for good quality videos of him.
+BurnThePope0514 Also honestly I was a huge fan of Cryptopsys earlier stuff but since they've had this line up now I pretty much watch them just to watch flo and check out his drumming lol.
i don't get how a genuine metal head could talk shit about this band and especially flo. When I saw them live they sounded fucking insane, flo is such a powerful player. he doesn't hold back, that's for sure
for anyone who didn't pay attention this is his kit look at the kick drum it's a cryptopsy logo it's been stripped back for many reasons over the yrs too smaller venues have smaller stages it's easier touring with a smaller kit as well he's trying to scratch a living in this metal soup of a job 1st of all kids not every band has a crew and a big fkn bus and storage trailer he's found a way that works for him he's simply cutting costs as for anyone saying he's sloppy lmao go watch metallica and fuck off this cats got more skill than half the drummers out their I'm not into the new lineup at all but he ain't sloppy as for the pedal choice he may like the axis ekit triggers- again another sound issue solved without a crew or a tech(no false triggering )or screwing with module perameter settings and if you play drums as we these days set our kits lower and sit higher up for control and power the cymbals would be somewhat flat so...angle them up abit and bobs your uncle it works just fine he knows what he's doing he didn't start drumming yesterday
I love his playing so much, and the super loose feel of his blasts has always kind of bugged me, but it really does add something real to the music. His left hand cuts at nearly a 45deg angle when he plays the snare, which is one thing that he really needs to clean up regardless of feel.
How long has he been playing Axis?? I've never seen him use a direct drive pedal. He's sworn solely on chain drive. He using someone else's pedals or did he make the switch? Either way he's still absolutely monstrous god damn
when did Flo switch to direct drive pedals? He used eliminator for years!! I remember asking him about it at a clinic last year. He said he didn't like the feel of direct drive. guess he changed his mind?
When did Flo switch to using Axis double pedals? Dude was a Pearl Eliminator player for a long time, and then I noticed him using Demon Drives in the last few videos I watched as well as when I saw Cryptopsy live last year...but now Axis? Interesting.
+josephp111 Matt has grown a lot since the abomination that was TUK. Main reasons he's so hated now are his deathcore influenced voice and the fact that he's not Lord Worm.
+josephp111 TBH I think he's the best they've had. Lord Worm was good on one album but always sounded like absolute trash live. Just listen to anything he's done that wasn't None So Vile.
+SomeGuyDude Disagree, Worm sounded absolutely stunning live in the early 90s. But yeah, later on he definitely didn't sound his greatest. Nice sound on BWN, and at his peak on NSV. That said I actually loved his sound on Once Was Not - it sounded very strained and almost desperate, but that suited the album IMO. Especially by the final shrieks towards the end. It sounded like increasingly frantic grasping for life from a dying creature :P Beastly.
matt is badass. seeing him live is awesome. he has different registers of screams, his presence is badass, that crazy hair when he bangs it, he's a great crowd motivator. he's intense and just looks great on stage. what is there to dislike.
So he can crack the edge better than if they are tilted downward/inward toward him. He's going for a certain sound. It's just a preference. I played like this for years and moved the angles around just for a different sound.
+Mathijs Ignoul Well some venues on the tour were pretty small. The Boston venue they recently played doesn't have a huge stage so opening, the drums would almost be at the front of the stage. At least I think that's why.
Flo IS a sick drummer. Too bad I can't get past the vocals of this band. I can groove to Cannibal Corpse, Whitechapel, and other dry lung vocals, but this band and Cattle Decapitation, both having amazing drumming, also have vocals that just get on my nerves.
I agree with you but anything with lord worm is amazing anything with the new vocalist is meh to me lord worm is what all death metal vocalist are judged on he was way ahead of his time
please dont kill me in the comment section but the singer sometimes sounds like a pig getting stabbed.... Its this normal ? It sounds like he is throaty as hell but still want to perfom
Axis pedals?!? I thought Flo was opposed to said pedals because they don't hit hard enough, guess in his old age he's realized he cant hit as hard as he once could. :p
Chris Lewis you contradicted yourself... if he didn't use Axis pedals because he thought they don't hit hard enough and now he uses them, it's because now in his old age he hits HARDER!
He once stated in an interview that he didn't like axis pedals due to them being too light and not able to hit as hard, why then would he switch over to them?
I'm just telling that on your first comment there is a contradiction when you say he switched to Axis because he must have realized he couldn't hit as hard as before. If he, himself, said those pedals hit lighter, then, if now he switched to them, it's because he realized he was hitting HARDER than before and not *less* harder than before. Capisce?
Now I see why people mention him in such high stead. Credit to the man, he's fucking brilliant.
Flo is the best death metal drummer in all of Canada. He’s got the speed, the grooves, the stamina and hits his drums hard like he’s endorsed and knows he can get more.
Not sloppy, but loose, he nailed the parts, but he swings. Love it, gives him a unique style.
^This
YES YES YES
Glad to see someone gets it.
Do you drum? Stfu
You are wrong
Always loved Flo's style, he has the real furious jazz feel that gives his blasts and rolls personality.
I really struggle to see the "jazz" you're talking about
Neon he is slightly syncopated - He doesn't play right on the beat; slightly ahead of it when the intensity level drops. It gives a slight level of urgency and gives a lot of contrast to the parts where he does play right on the beat in the slamming parts.
Yeah he does a lot of ghost notes and syncopation. Original style, for sure
I don’t like his style for death metal. He is sloppy.
one of Flos drum teachers... he studied from Magella Cormier in Jazz and Latin music.
ruclips.net/video/qUpd87l0p1w/видео.html
Flo's "sloppiness" is 100% intentional. It's loose playing, and it gives the music a lot of its character. He's not just a drum machine, he's a musician.
+SomeGuyDude absolutely agree. Noticed that even on studio albums like BMF, NSV and WS. Such a cool , "alive" drumming.
People just bitch, if he was like a robot they would bitch about him not feeling it, but since he Cleary does feel it and has some extra movements here and there he's sloppy. Even though the parts were played perfectly.
It's not called sloppiness, it's called feel ......and groove. He's amazing !!!! almost jazzy !!!
He has just a more "old school" approach...but the most important thing is that he has the groove even at high speeds, which to my taste is way better than being a perfect machine.
You are right. It is so unique! I think it sounds great!
Whoever mixed this did a fantastic job. Hats off to the engineer.
The fact that he plays everything looking relaxed is almost provocative. He's hands down one of the best extreme metal drummers out there.

+Logan Wilder Agreed! I watched them live back in 08', or 09'. But hey, they still make brutal ass music.
Flo's style is pretty unique in the genre. There's a wild and super lively quality to it.
one of the best drummer in the world. Saw him live, it's a monster!
best DM drummer outthere, so much energy and variety. EP is brutal!!! go check it out!
Yo im gonna book this band at my local church and get lit!
OddCereal When u do that Give Holla And we start Pit front of the ALTAR
Fuck yes dude invite me to the gospel
dude earns his money...love this band
Wow that was sick! I never watch a live vid of this guy until now
i don't get how a genuine metal head could talk shit about this band and especially flo. When I saw them live they sounded fucking insane, flo is such a powerful player. he doesn't hold back, that's for sure
Really original, love this guy

Flo mounier , es una autentica maquina demoledora .para mi uno de los mejores baterias.
All of their live recordings are so well mixed goddamn
for anyone who didn't pay attention this is his kit look at the kick drum it's a cryptopsy logo it's been stripped back for many reasons over the yrs too smaller venues have smaller stages it's easier touring with a smaller kit as well he's trying to scratch a living in this metal soup of a job 1st of all kids not every band has a crew and a big fkn bus and storage trailer he's found a way that works for him he's simply cutting costs as for anyone saying he's sloppy lmao go watch metallica and fuck off this cats got more skill than half the drummers out their I'm not into the new lineup at all but he ain't sloppy as for the pedal choice he may like the axis ekit triggers- again another sound issue solved without a crew or a tech(no false triggering )or screwing with module perameter settings and if you play drums as we these days set our kits lower and sit higher up for control and power the cymbals would be somewhat flat so...angle them up abit and bobs your uncle it works just fine he knows what he's doing he didn't start drumming yesterday
What happened to the rest of Flo's drum set????
it's like a quarter of the size now.
GamerDares Wins isnt HeS drum set
Most likely he uses a full set for recording and a smaller set for touring.
Flo always keeps you guessing
Flo's playing makes me smile.
What a animal. Love this man.
Holy cymbal hell. Killing it.
Loving the immense percussion, but miss the old beats.
Very awsome video!!!
awesome quality....
Cryptopsy are just awesome!!!
Flo Mounier: magic!!!
Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Flo Mounier made a really good job in Kataklysm as well.

Flo M.!
nuff said
Freaking insane!!!
great sound and nice angle \m/
would you share how you record live show?
One Hell of a drummer
I have the roland tm2 I wonder what settings he uses
I love his playing so much, and the super loose feel of his blasts has always kind of bugged me, but it really does add something real to the music. His left hand cuts at nearly a 45deg angle when he plays the snare, which is one thing that he really needs to clean up regardless of feel.
The best
How long has he been playing Axis?? I've never seen him use a direct drive pedal. He's sworn solely on chain drive. He using someone else's pedals or did he make the switch? Either way he's still absolutely monstrous god damn
I'm wondering the same thing??
He switched
Those vocals are so deep, maaaaaan.
I always know when you guys are filming when I'm at shows.
You can say Hi.
+LittyProductions I will next time
when did Flo switch to direct drive pedals? He used eliminator for years!! I remember asking him about it at a clinic last year. He said he didn't like the feel of direct drive. guess he changed his mind?
will shaw at the drums
Flo is an expert drummer that brings a lot of jazz drumming influence into extreme metal. I'd love to hear his playing outside of the metal genre.
Sean Reinert did it million times better than Flo.
Saw them 2x last 2001 open For DB gave them run for there $$$$
Brutal drummer.
When did Flo switch to using Axis double pedals? Dude was a Pearl Eliminator player for a long time, and then I noticed him using Demon Drives in the last few videos I watched as well as when I saw Cryptopsy live last year...but now Axis? Interesting.
the french Canadians make some of the best metal. glad I'm Canadian
Name some more French canadian bands to check out
+mrbtapir google is your friend
+mrbtapir but beneath the massacre is a classic. same with beyond creation
+Rusty Shackleford Google is my friend but it's always good to get a personal recommendation. never got into BTM before but incongruous is brutal.
+mrbtapir despised icon as well
Am I the only one who thinks Matt is good?
+josephp111 Matt has grown a lot since the abomination that was TUK. Main reasons he's so hated now are his deathcore influenced voice and the fact that he's not Lord Worm.

mounir is an arabian name # hail from egypt 🎧📽🎧
How does he even play with his cymbals tilted away from him like that?
KHfan4ever23 it's something that a lot of gospel/funk drummers do, supposedly it helps them ring out more?? I'm not convinced
So he can crack the edge better than if they are tilted downward/inward toward him. He's going for a certain sound. It's just a preference. I played like this for years and moved the angles around just for a different sound.
Montreal rep!
Fucking beast!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Is SD based out of denver or co? Tons of vids from co.
He's fast
\m% Flo mOuNier - Cryptopsy - halOthaNe Glow \m%
cONvincing sONg
Greetings from Hungary
What the reason for the cymbals being tiled away from Flo?
This song should be called 'How to thank Flo'.
The way his cymbals tilt away from him makes me feel so uncomfortable.
Dude I've never seen such fast 7 strokes on one hand before.. Actually kinda scary
Are those pearl eliminator double pedals.!
No. in fact these are Axis Longboard pedals
Oh, Father..
is he wearing a CBS shirt?
odd cymbal setup ,angled away like that seems odd but it seems to work good for him ,it would mess me up though
demonocus drumocus it's a trend. It's a bad trend if you don't like broken cymbals.
really ppl... show me where he is sloppy plz?
+Mac Drummer Is pure envy
+Mac Drummer the only thing sloppy is his manbun... haha
The whole performance?
@@jyvlii1828 what part of the performance though?
The angles of his cymbals are weird but each to their own :P
Brutal jazz hardcore
lmfao nah
Wot a f#cking row!!!
Blast beats come up short
How the thang glow!!!!! 😂😂😂
dude in the front lost his death shirt privelages, respect the crypt
HOW IN THE FREAKING WORLD IS THIS GUY FLO SLOPPY WITH ALL THIS INTRICATE FILLS AND TECHNIQUE I DOTH NOT GET IT THIS CAT IS PHENOMENON
Not sloppy
Pooor drummer :O Had to work a lot....
Can someone just explain how his style is sloppy? I'm just curious thays all.
his hand techniques are a bit weird but it works
Holy fuck why is it so easy
The best part was all of it
AXIS?????
+aledrum81 My thoughts exactly. He used Demon Drives for a long time.
I was at this exact show. cryptopsy was fuckin great. almost better than cannibal corpse
Wow, he's playing a very small kit these days.
+Mathijs Ignoul Well some venues on the tour were pretty small. The Boston venue they recently played doesn't have a huge stage so opening, the drums would almost be at the front of the stage. At least I think that's why.
holy shit dude hahahaaha this is definitely some serious brutality going on in this bitch
0:15 nice voice crack
brainblower, as always
That is like the limpest crowd ever.
Except for that one dude... you know who it is.
En los blast se queda corto...un fake!
sounds like someone gutting a bear
Flo IS a sick drummer. Too bad I can't get past the vocals of this band. I can groove to Cannibal Corpse, Whitechapel, and other dry lung vocals, but this band and Cattle Decapitation, both having amazing drumming, also have vocals that just get on my nerves.

You don’t appreciate the singer’s subtle, nuanced approach to his craft?
please dont kill me in the comment section but the singer sometimes sounds like a pig getting stabbed....
Its this normal ? It sounds like he is throaty as hell but still want to perfom
jhnnsn yeah the pig squealing, that's a death metal vocal technique.
I love Flo but sometimes his speed is too much for him. Happens with a lot of brutal drummers, like Cattle Decapitation's.
What do you mean by his speed is too much for him?
I miss Lord Worm
wow looks like alex rudinger has a long lost brother lol
Axis pedals?!? I thought Flo was opposed to said pedals because they don't hit hard enough, guess in his old age he's realized he cant hit as hard as he once could. :p
Chris Lewis you contradicted yourself... if he didn't use Axis pedals because he thought they don't hit hard enough and now he uses them, it's because now in his old age he hits HARDER!

good drumming horrible vocals
He's alright, no power though, weak blasts.
