I used to get together with a friend when I worked downstate and watch WGN; we'd lose it over Len O'Connor commentaries. But this brings back a lot of television memories. Thanks for posting
WGN News must’ve been lower-budget in ‘79, using film cameras for their local reports at a time when most TV news had switched to portable videotape units.
Len O"Connor,a man you did not want to examine your actions. His commentary is legendary, either here or on WMAQ. I was 23 then and working,so this was not a program I would often see. Definitely back in the days where political slant was not evident in the news.
The story about the girls actually was in the news again a few weeks ago. www.nbcchicago.com/investigations/44-years-after-2-teens-killed-in-morton-grove-a-renewed-push-to-solve-the-cold-case/3221646/ It's still a terrible tragedy that the families still don't have justice or answers as to what happened.
I was sad to here that Elizabeth bracket passed away in a bicycle mishap. June 17 2018, she was a great Reporter that I enjoyed watching her when I was a kid, she just reported the news objectively, no propaganda., no agenda., she gave you the news straight. she will be missed greatly.

Taxes going up,rents going up,,violence in the city going up,violence in the Middle East going on,hurricanes causing flooding, the only thing that has changed is that Montreal doesn’t have an MLB team anymore.
Gary Carter doing what he did best, putting the hurt on the Cubs. Meanwhile, WGN couldn't be bothered to come up with any footage of the Sox game? A 9-9 tie should have had something of interest..... But being on Ch. 44 at the time there might not have been a way to get ahold of it.

Film is more expensive you dote.
@@RJS1974but at that time, the cost to switch over to videotape equipment was quite costly, you dote
I wonder if the murder of those 2 teen girls in Morton Grove, IL was ever solved.
I didn’t know John Drury worked at WGN. I remember watching him on WLS 7 for many years. I met him and Joel Daly once. They both were very nice.
Jack Taylor was a class act.

Wow I was exactly 5 months old when this aired lol
That Cubs game took place on September 6th
Thanks for catching that. I've updated the dates on the description and the thumbnail; much appreciated.

Field? Any relation to the Fields of Sun-Times and original ch. 32?
Are these from 2 inch video masters?
No, they were from consumer VHS and Betamax recordings
