well, you already had your first game by now, but, I am a catcher as well, I am a year older than you, and I have played most of my softball career so far in catcher, I love it, and I think that to just remain calm and focused at all times is a key point to play catcher.
I miss catching......i really do. I played the position of catcher for 12 years. but then i had to get knee surgery because i never wore knee savers...... :/ my junior year for college ball i had to switch over to first base.
I havnt always played catcher in softball because I play baseball more often. Where u put your glove wont give away where the pitch will be. I personally put my glove out so that my pitcher has something to aim for. From watching other pitcher catcher combos I think its better to provide the target
I do something similar but I tend to lunge forward a bit when the pitch comes in so I can't put my glove out to far and I have to takeout a half a step back from where other pitchers set up or y head will get taken off!! lol
any advice on how to strengthen your arms to make that throw to 2nd?? the only way I can make it is a long arched throw which takes longer to get to the base and a lot of the time the girl stealing is safe.... I need help....
I'm eleven and I just started softball this year. I am catcher. My coach said I will play the catcher more then the other girl. I'm still scared for my first game, which is tomorrow. If you have any advice. Please tell me!
Thank you for the video, I have a 11year old daughter that plays catcher. I will have her watch your instructions. My daughter catches for 4 teams at the moment, all the coaches seem to think that she is a rare natural for this position. If she has received instruction from a minors "A" baseball catcher is it doing her game any harm. Thanks, and any advice is appreciated.
No problem! haha it truly sucks when a doctor tells you "Get knee surgery and quit catching now, or walk up a set of stairs without intense pain for the rest your life"
That is nothing like our training is here .. Your playing like baseball the hole is to big and your to high .. It is just not the way we are doing it down here .. We get low but we also stay comfortable and spring ready to throw stress is less
Thank you for the informative video. My daughter plays shortstop and catcher on a travel softball team. If you are interested and and have a chance, feel free to take a look at some of her videos on youtube. Just perform a youtube search for jbb335. Thank you once again for the informative video. Good luck on your season.
Why are you leaning over so the back is parallel to the ground with arm extended??? Question for you, all softball catching instructors... do you throw from that position, no you throw when you are upright so your arm can work... also if pitch is high, not a chance in hell your catching it -because you never gave yourself a chance.... so why not eliminate a step and setup with your chest up... times are quicker and you can actually use your back leg to throw.. should be the same as baseball

it makes it so hard when a bad play is made... I guess you just have to shake it off or it will throw off your whole game
Totally agree! Same here. Control is most important, then strengthening that arm!
im a catcher and everything hurts but i try different positions to get myself comfortable

Pretty sure there is no comfortable position for catchers. After awhile any position hurts

on the subject of throwing down, its mostly just control. I can throw from my knees and in an up position. just strengthen your arm.
any advice on how to strengthen your arms to make that throw to 2nd??

Wow things have changed. Don't do what this video says with the up position haha
run forward then throw

I get into a "froggy position" I stay very, very low.
