I couldn’t agree with you more on the prices. I think they need to drop about 20%. I suppose if the dealer chooses to make less money per sale you could save about 10-20%.
no doubt Snap-On worth there money one reason customer service alone can't beat it. my guy Timmy my dealer he great goes over my box takes my tools and fixes them for me without me saying so yes I am oner of his better clients but you look at my tools and they stay new and I do take extra care of them its what I make my money with. safe tools safe cars.
Zeus vs Triton, is it worth it to get the Zeus? Also What features does the Triton have over the Modis? I'm looking online and can get the Modis Ultra for about $1500 used so I'm really tempted to get it. My biggest concern is it becoming obsolete in a few years.
Nice video! And that bonus footage is priceless, I’d have been rolling! Any word on if and how the new software has accessibility to new SGW modules on newer FCA group stuff?
you have the zeus no need for the triton. me myself I just picked up the triton d8 my first scan with scope and the inteli sold it for me. but thanks very informative video. I needed to learn to use the way to get into the how to. have c450 cylinder 1 camshaft off timing.
I have the opportunity to buy a used triton d8 for cheap, so cheap that it’s almost concerning $1800. What advice can you give me? What should I look for before buying it?
I’ve seen many of them listed for $1500-2500 depending on software level included. To bring it up to date could cost $800 or so. Make sure it has European software as well. Almost all came with euro included during original purchase. If the cord is worn out I would replace that as well but if it was taken care of the cord will last the life of the tool.
@@ThePracticalMechanic talking to some of my coworkers they told me that Snap on dealers don’t like it when you buy a scanner off another technician and they may give lots of headaches when trying to update it. Do you know anything about this?
@@Acosta-on7do I have a good working relationship with my Snapon dealer so I wouldn’t worry about it. You could always call your Snapon guy and ask him if he has any tritons for sale or ask him if he thinks it’s a good deal on the used one. This will break the ice and he can either offer you one of his trade ins for the same price or say yeah it’s a good deal go buy the used one.
Has Snap On said whether or not they can connect to new FCA products for Bi directional control? I ask because I heard FCA now has a Security Gateway Module that blocks most current scanners from doing any coding or bi directional controls. I know there are bypass cables, but that calls for pulling dash panels off to get to the SGM.
Snapon has it in the works and is supposed to be nearly complete with the co-op with FCA. It probably won’t be released until 2020 but there is a slim chance that it could be released in version 19.4. I’m not sure if it requires a new cable or not.
I’m glad they finally added Altus to the the Zeus even it I don’t use it much. What kind of glitches have you run into. I haven’t used my Zeus much since the update.
Altus is definitely a great add on. Had a 2011 Nissan rouge and Zeus wouldn’t auto load vehicle or perform full system scan on all modules and tried restarting Zeus and restarting vci and still wouldn’t load. Launch and autel worked perfectly. One thing I can remember off the top of my head
I just checked my vehicle history and the one I had issues with last week was a Suzuki Grand Vitari. Zeus has no comm to pcm but my Modis did. Launch Creader also failed to communicate.
I just bought this Triton D8 last week and it's Snappy fast with 19.2 and euro included compared to the Verus Pro I was using. I wanted the ZEUS but the firmware is older and I heard the 18.4 firmware had some glitches I didn't wont to take any chances for how much the ZEUS cost. And the Triton D8 gets the job done fast without Windows booting up and it's on before I can plug in the diagnostic connector. Yes it is fast!
The speed of the Triton D8 is amazing. I thought my Modis Edge was fast compared to the Zeus but the Triton is so much faster. Congratulations on the the new scanner.
The Zeus has 19.2 it uses the same software as any other scanner. The Zeus is only a few more grand and you get 3 years of updates and warrenty (4k) value alone the D8 only has 1 year
Joshua Ward the triton has a 2 channel labscope built in and also has the intelligent diagnostic feature that relates the codes pulled from the vehicle to common problem and TSBs to help the diagnostic process without leaving the car. The solus legend is just a scanner and honestly fits the needs of most technicians. Unless your going to be using the scope feature often the solus will be the better buy. Updates are cheaper for the solus also.
How do you like your ZEUS compared to using the Triton D8 and which one are you more compelled to reach for, even though one is a 4 channel scope and the other is a 2 channel scope, and explain please?
The speed of the Triton D8 is amazing compared to the Zeus. Since I have the Zeus I still grab it first because I can run third party programs and websites. I also use it at times with screen capture software to aid my RUclips videos. I doubt I will ever use all four channels on Zeus because I have a Pico scope at my disposal and it’s easier to have a separate machine for scanning and scoping at that point. If I was going to buy a new scanner today and my choice was between the Zeus and the Triton D8 I would probably buy the Triton because of the speed. If you have mobile needs then the Verus or Zeus might be better.
If they are both running 19.4 then I would buy the cheaper one because at that point they are identical but the triton is going to give you more messages about updating. The extra features of the triton stop working if the software is out of date. Not sure what fair pricing is really. It depends on what accessories come with. Should have a yellow and green test leads, charge cable, obd2 cable, soft sided carry case. If the accessories are missing it will cost you more to get setup for scoping. If you aren’t going to using the scope ever look for the Apollo instead because the updates are cheaper. My dealer sells used solus/Apollo scanner for $1000-1500 and modis/triton for $1500-2500.
You can pay monthly subscription fee or pay for the year up front. I think its about $1500 a year either way but you probably save a little for paying up front. My Zeus is ~$130/month for the software.
My snap on rep said he can get me one for $3700 after a $300 mail in rebate, was he looking at the wrong one? Or is that just the tool without the subscription
The $6000 is the retail price. The dealer has the option to lower the price. My dealer said If I trade in my old solus pro I will pay $3300 for the scanner and additional for the subscription. I know he’s not giving me $3000 trade for my old solus that he will try and sell for $800-1000.
The Modis has bidirectional controls that will let you activate certain relays and components on many vehicles. It also has guided component testing that will help you connect the scope leads to a certain component and give you information on how that component is supposed to function.
Andrew Garcia it has its pros and cons. I have both and I always reach for the Pico first because of the ease of navigation. The snapon will have the guided test for most makes and models the Picoscope has generic test procedures that can be applied to most vehicles. The Pico requires a laptop and usb cables and isn’t as easy connect real quick unless you have a diag cart setup. The snapon requires just a few seconds to connect cables to scanner and to vehicle. Longer cables may be needed for both scopes for test drive usage but the Pico comes with longer leads than the snapon. Snapon requires you to set your time scale at the closest you want to see and then allows you to zoom out after the capture to see the big picture. Pico starts with the big picture and then you can zoom into the fine details of the capture as long as your settings are correct. I think Pico is more versatile as an all around scope.
how does this compare to the older snap on's like the platform on modis ultra and modis edge where you can buy used and still use it just fine without having to update it regularly can you still use everything other then suretrack without updating regularly or is it like the new style matco if you do not pay the monthly fee it turns into a high priced code reader only
It maintains full scantool functionality even if the subscription expires. You have to keep the subscription current to use Altus and suretrack. We have a couple of techs with software as old as 17.4 and they still work but lack some of the full scan features of the 19 software.
