I don’t have a PDK, but I enjoy watching and learning from all the PCA videos. I have a 987.1 Boxster that I will never part with that has a manual 5speed. Like many in the comments, I would like to say thank you to PCA and everyone that devotes time to make this club and its members better.
I track my Cayman PDK and do my own maintenance. A fluid change is relatively easy and special tooling is NOT required. A filter/pan change is also straight forward. A competent mechanic can do both.
After watching this video I'm going to stick to my manual transmission. I have had no trouble out of my 6 speed and the last fluid change was $100.00. But this was a great video and very informative. Thanks

Found this video AFTER Todd reached out to me in the PDK repair facebook group to get my 987.2 Boxster S 3.4L down to ATL. Feeling more confident that he’s going to be able to help me out.
I was going to buy a 986 or a 987.1 but ended up buying a 2009 Boxster S with a PDK. I went from worrying about the IMS bearing and bore scoring to worrying about the PDK. Luckily I bought a 4 year bumper to bumper warranty so I`ll have a little piece of mind.
Thanks for this video. It is reassuring to know that PDK's can be repaired and that there is an aftermarket supplying upgraded repair parts. I certainly see an aluminum clutch oil pan in my future! It is understandable that the guests choose to be a little tight lipped about the skills and techniques they developed, since that gives them a competitive edge. The next challenge is identifying local shops around the country that have the skills to perform these repairs. I think many of us would like to know we have a local shop we can turn to if the unexpected were to happen.
A couple comments. First, thank for the choice of topic. I don't have one, but this helps when it's time to decide. Second, by now you know the production quality needs improvement. Get a cameraman at the remote location -- maybe more than one. You need better L-mikes and receivers -- if you're not using Sennheiser, get some. Third, it's ok with link up with a remote site, but you need a solid wifi and Wan circuit. If you can't hold a minimum 10 MB/sec both directions, fix it. Fourth, if you're not using one, you should get a console operator to adjust volumes and video rates on the fly, so the viewer doesn't have to constantly adjust between the local and remote sites. Good luck.
I have heard that in the traffic don't do inches movement of the car. That will hurt clutch. Is that true? Is it recommended to make a distant move in the traffic instead of shot distance?
I had to search this video just to get more information. My PDK transmission went out on my Turbo S 2012. It's under warranty through endurance.... It's going to be eighteen thousand to replace
Folks have figured out remote audio in every walk of life since 2020 if not before. Jesus this was awful. Just some AirPods connected to their iPad would have solved. Abort and reschedule.
The audio problem is likely on the ATLSpeedWerks' side. The camera used for streaming their video input likely have also been used for audio input. However, the camera is positioned further away seemingly to capture more subjects, so the audio captured is low especially made worse through the garage's reverb. One easy alternative would be to use another phone to join the call only for "audio" and placed close to the speakers. Then make the camera/phone as a "video", so have it muted & silenced (no output volume) but still provide video.
How do you square their advice with that given by Pedro in the PCA Tech Q&A? 11/01/2021: "Unless you are having issues, follow your manual's recommended schedule. There's no reason to change fluid at 40K or 60K miles." Pedro 06/17/2022: "I wouldn't open it till 90K miles. And yes, I would replace the filter when replacing." Pedro 07/04/2022: "At 50,000 it's still soon for a transmission flush. If it's working properly, wait until the recommended service schedule: At 60,000 miles, change the PDK clutch oil At 120,000 miles, change the PDK transmission oil" Pedro
The reason the Cayenne doesn’t use PDK is because Cayenne’s are made to be able to Tow large objects which isn’t what a dual clutch transmission is made to do efficiently.
Hi Great vid. I have a 991.1 turbos s and have the transmission differential pressure sensor 3 fail. Luckily the car is under warranty and porsche are replacing the transmission but my question is what does this sensor actually do? Cheers
My PDK failed 4 weeks ago at 12,000 kms 2021 911 Still waiting for the dealer to figure out what the problem is. They replaced the pressure sensor - that didn't work. Now they're replacing the valve body. We'll see if this fixes the problem.
I really enjoy Tech Tactics....usually. Despite the audio issues (which I read in the comments you are acutely aware of the issue) these guys were just not as informative, helpful and as engaging as I had hoped for. They did not come across as being very interested in truly "teaching". They might be very good at what they do (repairs, diagnosing, etc), but this session just didn't work for me. I would have enjoyed some time spent stepping us through a more thorough sequencing and description of the PDK shift processes - valve actuation followed by which shaft actuates (with animation). The common failure discussion was helpful, but I was looking for more of the "Tech"nical content. Let's follow the Kaizen way and keep striving for improvement.
Its a great transmission when on the track with the Porsche Track Experience so that as a beginner, I can concentrate on driving and not shifting on something like a tight Driver Developement Track, but nothing like the 7-speed manual on my GTS. PDK, no thanks!
I have a 2010 997.2 Turbo w/77k miles. Very reliable and runs great, but I do feel some slight engagement slip in either 1st gear and reverse, kinda feels like a manual, and more noticeable on a slope. 5:53 "for the most part they are very good, very reliable" Well that is all very nice if it is a $1000 fix, but when you are spending upwards of $25K on a new unit, that is unreasonable. I wonder what Porsche's cost is on that transmission on the production line? Probably less than $3K.
@@FL981S Exactly why I like my 993. I can replace cylinders like on an aircraft if I needed to or replace all transmission internals. I can't do any of that on my 991.1 GTS. That leaves a very bad taste in my mouth with respect to Porsche.

The shift fork position sensors(and many other sensors) are located inside of the transmission. Older, broken down fluid doesn’t manage its temperature as well as it did when new.
